Three bids
(Started a new thread as the previous one was delving into the realms of madness.)
Out of those I'd prefer it wasn't France.
Wouldn't object to either of SA or Ireland. Maybe leaning a touch toward the Paddies as (although they've hosted games before) it will be a completely new experience.
Ireland has to rush through supporting legislation because the responsible minister is apparently useless. The GAA have agreed to let them use their stadiums, so they're well sorted there. Just an issue with hotels and public transport. But New Zealand coped, so...
France had it only a decade ago, so it's still fresh in everyone's minds.
South Africa couldn't cobble together the cash for a Commonwealth Games bid. They've also got serious security concerns. Enough to make a bus trip in Egypt or an antiquities tour through Syria look enticing.
Ireland's by default. I should imagine it would be great fun too. Although three hosts in a row that don't get out of the pool stage wouldn't be a good look.
Ireland is easily the best choice from those three. A pity Argentina and Italy didn't submit a bid.
Can Ireland deal with all the tourists the RWC will attract? It might sink into the ocean or something. Better go to South Africa just to be safe.

Too right. A cruise liner pulled into Dublin Port last week and people actually started to get off the bloody thing. The whole island nearly tilted. The army had to use cattle prods to get them back on board and then used slashing hooks to cut the mooring ropes before they could make a second attempt. Close run thing but everybody's ok.

I learned everything I need to know about Ireland off Father Ted, the stadiums on Craggy island have got to be shit.
