Lima Sopoaga

Thought I saw something on Facebook that said he had signed with MP for next year.

Only 34. But never struck me as a gym rat.

Why would the All Blacks regret Lima moving on?

He doesn't solve a problem for me as I consider him to be too much like Richie.

Yeetyaah

A mate of mine who knows Lima asked him about MP and he said he hadn't signed because the offer wasn't high enough. Take that with a grain of salt though he could just be throwing the scent off.

@antipodean I always felt he saw which way the wind was blowing. With DMac and Beaudy in the All Blacks at best there was one slot for another first five and the rise of Mounga meant that there wasn't any guarantee it would be Lima. Can't fault him for heading abroad

Kiwiwomble

i'll always look back on his debut, in south africa and to play so well, its literally what we talk about being one of the ultimate tests, feel he'll always be a "what if"

@Kiwiwomble agreed. There's a world (probably one where JJ didn't leave in 2017 and Tony Brown in 2018) where Fekitoa and Lima Soponga are both still playing for the All Blacks and are considered legends of the game.

Fekitoa left because of Laumape and Godue (and to an extend ALB) and arguably (given the benefit of hindsight0 was the better option long term.

I'd love Fekitoa to return to NZ and do a final season at the Highlanders.

Agreed. No real prospect so he may as well make money where he can.

I remember reading/ hearing that Hansen wasn't particularly impressed because he didn't play to the coached strategy.

@antipodean whish if true you can understand. a real balancing act thought, especially for a playmaker, to play whats in front of you, and how he played works on that day

You mean he played with poise and control?

That's the kind of modding we can all get behind.
