Juan Manuel Leguizamon will make his first start of Rugby World Cup 2019 in an Argentina team that shows nine changes from the XV that started the defeat against England on Saturday.

It will be the 15th RWC appearance for the 36-year-old back-row forward in his fourth tournament, while veteran fly-half Nicolas Sanchez returns at No.10 having been left out of the match-day 23 against England.

With Argentina unable to qualify for the quarter-finals, overall the team has an inexperienced feel. "There are 16 boys that made their World Cup debut this year and they are going to get a lot of learning from this experience," said coach Mario Ledesma.

Among those included are 22-year-old wing Bautista Delguy, prop Santiago Medrano and full-back Juan Cruz Mallia, both 23. 

Matais Alemanno comes into the second row after Tomas Lavanini was sent off against England.

Young scrum-half Ruben de Haas will make his first start for the USA after impressing as a replacement against England and France. 

Twenty-year-old De Haas, who replaces Shaun Davies, is one of three changes USA coach Gary Gold has made to his team for the Pool C match against Argentina in Kumagaya Rugby Stadium on Wednesday, 9 October.

Second-row Greg Peterson and centre Paul Lasike will also start against the Pumas, replacing Nick Civetta and Martin Iosefo respectively. Iosefo drops to the bench with Davies and Civetta out of the matchday 23.

Argentina cannot progress to the knockout stage following defeats by France and England. USA are seeking their first win at the Rugby World Cup since a 13-6 victory over Russia in 2011. The Eagles only other RWC wins came against Japan in 1987 and 2003.

Argies will no doubt be very disappointed not being able to get out of thier pool!

They stuffed up their prep massively apparently. Stayed in Oz to train after RC (which is an insane amount of time away), couldn't get fields to train on, wasted time playing against Randwick.

Not making excuses, I agree they were the biggest disappointment, but that's some very poor planning!

One team had to miss out from Pool C. Based on the rankings that was always likely to be Argentina.

@Bovidae still doesnt change that they have been hugely disappointing, I'd say the Jaguares being run into the ground probably a factor.

Before the tournament, I thought the USA had improved quite a bit, but now I'm not so sure. Sunday's game against Tonga may provide the final answe. Based on what I've seen thus far, I expect Tonga beat them easily.

But the biggest issue is their lack of reaction to unexpected circumstances. Something doesn't happen the way they expect, they don't recover how someone growing up with the game would.

Didn't help that Williams utterly fucked them in the scrum first half by not penalising the Argie THP for being pissweak.

And that high tackle in minute 53 should have been yellow. The maul in the 54th minute should also have been penalised for 3 Arg players being in the side.

Well Ledesma will be ruing a few things right now, no doubt. They're going home because he made some less than sensible selections IMHO.

The coaching team for the USA are either shit at rugby or shit at man management - their gameplan should be simple: pound the fuck out of opposition 5m either side of the breakdown, and learn to maul. As long as the backs can tackle, you'll be competitive.

They've got some big units who can move at pace but from 10 out the ball skills are practically zero at this level. That won't come until the next decade has seen their domestic competitions grow, and kids starting to play from junior high upward.

And they need external influence in some of those coaching ranks, because just playing against each other will just create the same problem Australian rugby has: biggest kid wins.
