KiwiMurph

Not clear and obvious. Good call ref.

Bones

Common sense kinda says that's a forward pass, but it's not clear and obvious the direction of the hands on that evidence.

KiwiMurph

Good commentator this guy.

KiwiMurph

Wayne Smith and backlines eh - wow.

@KiwiMurph Rupert Cox heโ€™s a good caller , does the world 7s circuit as well ..

kiwiinmelb

45-0 at halftime, doesnโ€™t get more one sided than that

Dan54

Well I don't caer what anybody else thinks, this is a bloody fun match. Geez Fitzpatrick is a classy player at 12.

kiwiinmelb

I havenโ€™t watched a lot of womens rugby to be honest ,

But pleasantly surprised with the attacking skills of our forwards

Kendra is not up to it anymore

Bones

Who's 18? That was one of the most terrible attempts at ball placement I've seen.

Bones

And she doesn't seem too smart either. Ref calls a scrum and she starts walking back ten metres. Ahhh....you're the TH.

She's gave away a ton of dumb penalties, and was average at the scrum the game she started

Yeah I noticed. Powerhouse ball in hand, and seems to make easy metres. But outside that she's a liability.

Hah, comes on the field and somehow manages to give away 2 penalties and get carded for non foul play.

And another, and a card. We'll do better with her off

Bingo! The resulting line out, we steal and go back in their half

She encroached the line out just before she was carded, but not picked up

taniwharugby

Scrappy 2nd half...shame as some of our play off set pieces has been good, some of the players in motion in the movements is excellent

A dump of replacements all at once, never goes well

Bones

That's the first mistake I've seen du Plessis make all tournament.

Jesus calm down girls ffs

Better decision there, didn't offload to the first available, actually looked

Bones

That couldn't have been a more blatant example of not rolling away.

18's on, drops the ball

She did same last week if I remember rightly Bones, looks to be trying to make sure she doesn't get picked again!

taniwharugby

@Machpants actually, I just remembered there was close to 20k in the 2011 RWC in both games when Tonga played up here.

Hopefully we get a bigger crowd next week!

Yeah was sold out for the lions tho

Billy Tell

Fair play to Scotland for not giving up. They were non existent in the first half (did they have a backrow?) but better in the 2nd.

Hard for any kiwis to genuinely impress against mediocre opposition. There are a few selection headaches for smith.

This smells like 2007: pool walkover with better opposition ahead.

This halfback looks better than Cocksedge

Bayler has the best pass of the three halfbacks followed by Marino-Tauhini. Unfortunately we know who is going to start.

I watched the game on poor mans TV so have just finished.

Another tough selection decision will be at lock. Roos played really well but I like what Ngan-Woo offers around the field as a distributor.

Nice position for Smith to have, not who to pick, but who to leave out!

Not really. Firstly we've got Wales again in the quarters so we're not losing to them. In addition every RWC is like that for the ferns, there is only ever 2 or 3 teams in it that count

One of the biggest selection problems is the back three. Do you put in a fullback that can kick (Holmes/Tubic) at the expense of firepower? Or do you go with Tui. I have concerns about our kicking to relieve pressure and our goal kicking.
Tubic is an obvious bench option covering 10/15.
Tui with a roaming licence from the wing is a game changer in providing the opposition with pictures they haven't dealt with in their NH bubble and when we are on defence her vision to be where the attack is going is second to none.
Is it an option to split Ruby, Ayesha and Portia time wise across the game or does that limit the bench?
Fitzpatrick and Fluhler would be my top midfield

canefan

@Crucial Holmes struggled against Aussie. That makes me nervous

Yep. She doesnโ€™t fill me with confidence either. I can see why Smith is toying with playing someone who can run us out of trouble and link up. It gains more ground than a 20 metre kick.
This is often the case in FPC as well. A good tactic against many teams that try to play a traditional fullback is to kick deep.
