There's a time and a place for it. Up by 1 with 7 and a half to go and with the other team missing a forward is not the time to do it.

That's an understatement. We've scored most of our tries this cup from lineouts and we've passed up the opportunity for a lineout 5 - 10m out twice by tapping it instead. Absolutely mind boggling.
