If their defence can improve on what they showed vs Wales it should be a closer game than 21 point loss the U20s had last year vs France

I think it was mentioned France are favourites for the tournament, will be a tough test

Jailbreak7

Who are the Baby Blacks players to watch out for?

Taele has been very good at 12, likely the Blues will sign him up next year. Dylan Pledger was also excellent at halfback, has a very good running game.

France only finished 3rd in the 6N U20 competition, losing to England, Ireland and Italy. They did score 31 pts in the first two losses.

France are among the favorites to win the competition because they have added a few players from the Top 14 to their 6N squad. They have a massive forward pack.

Bovidae

New Zealand and France have met four times at the Under 20 level, currently with two wins apiece.

Recent history is with France.

Halftime France 11 - NZ 0

We have been awful.

Torian

Good assist from Pledger to solomon

Much better second half from NZ so far

Victor Meldrew

France losing composure.

Torian

Great scrum and Pledger gets the chocolates

Victor Meldrew

Joel Stransky is a bloody good commentator.

Victor Meldrew

Letui in after a great maul

24-21.

@Victor-Meldrew Forwards are going great this half. Huge scrum earlier that lead to the try also

Victor Meldrew

@Kiwidom

Love the ambition in the backs as well.

Victor Meldrew

Great Frog try - outstanding.
24-26 France lead.

Smuts

Holy shit what a game.

Victor Meldrew

And now the TMO gets involved....

Victor Meldrew

Penalty reversed. Yellow to Smith.

Stransky thinks it's harsh.

W32

No arm at all though. Dumb

W32

Chance now. NZ deserve to win

Victor Meldrew

Simpson shows nerves of steel...misses the kick...TMO is checking the kick.

Torian

Fantastic result! Epic game good on ya Rico ๐Ÿ˜…

Victor Meldrew

How the fuck did the Touch Judge get that wrong?

Fantastic game - another great NZ-French games.

That really was a game of two halves for us

@Victor-Meldrew

It looked over in real time. I was going โ€˜wtf, thatโ€™s over!โ€™

A game of two halves. NZ discipline was poor during the first half. Huge second half by the forwards.

I thought the backs were good too - outstanding scramble defence and attacked from everywhere - but sensibly

Haven't seen game yet Victor, but had been impressed with backs in first game, and had thought Pledger looked the goods at 9, and had been impressed with the balance of Rico Simpson. Will sit down and watch this one after.

Canes4life

Massive win, Solomon had a few nice touches in this one, probably got NZ moving with that chip and chase which lead to our first try. Great second half by the forwards aswell.

Bovidae

Even though Simpson nailed that penalty he had a very average game for the most part. Pledger was class again.

NZ just didn't have any possession or territory in the 1st half playing with the wind, and when they did have the ball lost it through handling errors. The roles were reversed in the 2nd half as France spent most of the time in their half. Yes, you can say discipline was a problem but some of those penalties were harsh, e.g., Smith in the lineout.

This NZ team is showing more grit and determination than those from previous years, so that is promising.

Typical back though as he talked up the French scrum when NZ had only 7 forwards. ๐Ÿ™‚

Brosnihan had some interesting takes on the PI names.

Andrew Smith's discipline was a worry but what a player ! He will be an All Black, that's for sure.

antipodean

Impressed by Pledger. Less impressed with the blind AR who tried to deny the winning penalty kick.

ARHS

Just watched this. Weird game but a great watch. Really enjoyed the commentary and the way the ref held his nerve through the match.
Pledger looks very promising. Andrew Smith and Liam Jack are great works in progress. Midfielders look strong. I am not as convinced by the all round play of Simpson, Solomon or Bason though.
Well done to the reserve forwards who added the impact to win that one.

kiwiinmelb

Just watched the highlights on you tube without knowing the result , you hear so much hype over the French junior program was not overly optimistic when I clicked on it

Donโ€™t know much about our players but was impressed with their resilience .

Awesome stuff .

It is actually so very good too see our forwards dominate set pieces, even if only for one half, as it's been where the baby blacks have been smashed in recent years
