If that’s not a red then there’s no consistency

If it's a Red Card then Ntamack will be unavailable for the England game at Twickenham. And Jalibert is currently having a sulk.

Jalibert dropped because he had a sulk

Correct decision

Zero gainline efficiency from Wales, our carriers simply aren't big or strong enough to get over the gainline at all.

Sounds like Wales' nil total might be flattering them to them.
As I write this I note the Ntamack card gets upgraded to red.

We’ve had more than enough ball in the right parts of the field to score tries but we haven’t had the power to break the gain line or the guile to unlock the French defence

MN5

What has happened to Wales ? They used to have any number of backline beasts in Robert’s, Davies, North etc.

Higgins

@MiketheSnow Not watching live, can you advise what the Wales yellow card was for thanks?

Victor Meldrew

Strangely unappetising game. Just too one-sided. Wales looked slow and predictable, Les Frogs hardly looked like breaking sweat. Best bit was the punch-up under the French posts in the 2nd half

Thought the Ref was pretty good. Clear comms and warnings but not whistle happy

pooler fan

Wales will struggle to score a try in this tournament.
Few decent individual performances but France didn't have to get out of 2nd gear to run away with that game.
Sad times for us .

James and Llewelyn should start in midfield next week

Both lumpers

Though Thomas, your 10 did OK (some weird kicks though) as did Tomas the Half. Adams needs talking to after his confrontation with the Ref. Real stupid shit.

antipodean

I'm guessing the problem is the word defence doesn't have a direct Welsh translation?

Also note for Paul Williams: If the ball is off the ground, it's not a ruck, so why are you telling people to "leave it"?

Bovidae

Firstly, a positive, Wales started both halves brightly but their attack is so blunt and predictable they probably wouldn't score if playing another 40 mins.

Tomos Williams has always looked like a handbrake at halfback to me, and along with Ben Thomas the kicking game was terrible. I felt sorry for the starting locks and loose forwards who tried hard and never gave up. But there are major problems in other areas, notably front row and the inside backs.

Who throws those highlights together? AI running on a Commodore 64?
20 seconds of the decision being made for the first yellow card, 70 seconds for the yellow/upgraded-to-red; but zero footage of the first, and just the incidental real-time of the second.

Best thing about the game looked to be: the on-screen graphics look slick (other than that atrocious new logo). Finally updated for modern high-resolution displays.

mariner4life

I'm watching this now, France just scored it's first try

Rugby loves to say its a game of constant contest
And this game is proving its bullshit
Rucks are a fucking shit fight of attacking players sealing the ball or diving off their feet
Wales are feeding every scrum straight under the looseheads feet
I've barely seen a straight lineout
Dupont continually runs behind his own players and is allowed to.

The ref is talking but doing fuck all.

mariner4life

And now the forward pass rule doesn't exist

mariner4life

Welsh 9 has never met a ruck he couldn't slow down, awful game so far from him

I thought there was some great shape in the attack, just hesitant or wrong options at crucial times. Certainly not helped by France being allowed an extra metre or two past the offside line.

Catogrande

I didn’t get to see the whole game as was in a French bar with a bizarre lack of interest from the patrons and poor reception, but did Wales even get a kick at goal? I didn’t recall one from my intermittent viewing.

No

Heard in the queue at the CO-OP in Taffs Well just now:

“Any positives from that performance butt?”

“Aye definitely - we’re still unbeaten at home and Triple Crown is still on!” 😂🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

NTA

Hmmm... a few things stood out there.

  1. The playbook looked almost exactly like Grand Slam Gatland, the difference being the opposition can tackle now and actually know what a backline move looks like. No penetration in close to make France's forwards work hard.

  2. I am yet to be convinced that Tomos Williams is the best option at 9 for Wales. He is mostly good but then step-passes at the exact time Wales need faster ball i.e. within sight of the goal line

  3. France didn't seem to get out of third gear.

Tough watching for Wales fans which will be the status quo for a while yet I think.

Which is exactly the way Paul Williams has refereed every Test match - and most other pro games - he's been involved in.

A bit like Jaco Peyper. Just let the boys sort it out. Except the boys won't do anything but fuck it up.

But then, at 61 minutes, he remembers the gate rule, and gets upset when the Welsh guy loses his shit

Bro this game is unreffable

mariner4life

Also, what funny to me, is because the darling of modern rugby discourse threw that pass, it's not forward

For all the reasons they used to rag on the SH for using

Remember "if it goes forward it's forward"?

He threw that forward out of the hands, it was forward

Billy Tell

Was a fairly boring match. Actually dozed off at 70 minutes. Wales forgot to look at the best by date when reappointing gatland.

Wales are poor. Morgan and Rowlands are the only good players they have. Their backline is slow and defensively naive.

Dodge

Felt a bit like the England game, players go out hard at the beginning, following instructions, but just lose the thread and end up chucking the ball around behind the gain line hoping that an individual does something special and it just doesn't work against good sides.

As long as you're not having a go at Jordan Way, all good.

As I commented on the video, I was screaming at the TV every time it happened

Take contact and force the officials to make a ruling

Bones

@MiketheSnow it's offside obstruction, refs just need to nut up and call it.

Dan54

I have personally reckoned that any team using the pod system are illegal 5/10 times. France seem to be pushing it, and I put it down to how game has changed. Just know when I played you tried to never have a team mate with the ball behind you as you would get pinged for offside. I did think some of the French ones were extreme, even for whats allowed these days.

Yeah I commented too, Welsh player runs into one of those players it is obstruction and they get pinged. Naive by the Welsh, run in hard with and fall with flailing arms and over the top calling it to ref.

Ireland dined out on it for years during their recent golden age. Players ahead of ball carriers all over the place masquerading as bodies in motion.

It’s no wonder a geriatric sexton had an arm chair ride in his latter years.

He was basically walking around out there.
