Nary a thought for the defensive side of test footy, or the importance of the 15 marshalling the troops from the back, or their ability to be a playmaker, it was just "he did well there at Super look at the tries he scored! Let's put him there for the ABs!!".

Such low IQ stuff. It was so obvious that all of his flaws would get exposed at the back, and so it has come to pass. The only thing worse is that they continue to persist playing him there. The absolute height of idiocy.

The other obvious example already mentioned is moving Rieko on and putting blokes with no defensive ability at 13, only for them to get exposed over and over again. For all the "both sides of the ball" horseshit they trotted out to explain away their ridiculous anti-Blues bias, they don't seem to have any idea what that phrase even means.

Ioane was not flourishing at 13 last year, and there was a lot of criticism on here. Proctor was outstanding in Super as was Tupaea, and Jordie carved it up up north. Again worth a go.

Having said that, if you try something and it doesn't work, then it fucking well should be changed.

The casual observer could also see the huge upside Rieko brought to the team on defense, and could also see that his attacking ability could be much better utilised by giving him a yard of space instead of using him as a crash ball merchant. It was also obvious to the casual observer that Proctor was never going to be suitable for the way they want to use the centre, with the added downside of being much poorer defensively.

Nearly every single issue with the current side that casual observers were pointing out have come to pass. And they came to pass in a BIG way against an English side that didn't even play close to their own potential, without even mentioning all the other record losses under these clowns.

On the weekend: Carter's miss and in a no-win situation he couldn't make the cover tackle, and he got run over by a forward on the line - but that's not his fault, he shouldn't have to defend in those positions.

It is interesting question though
if Super just isn't good enough prep for test level
or if our players at Super require different skills as ABs
and/or if the coaching (skills and strategy) at AB level is incapable of helping players play to a higher level.

I’m all for picking a part bad plays and errors from Jordan, but I’m not sure Jordan is overly at fault in this one. Proctor was in position to try and make the tackle which was away from Jordan and DMac for that matter.

He had two good touches in our second try, but should have been off at 30. He was at half pace after we got counter rucked in corner after LF surge.

For me the real question is, ‘How do we expect to beat a top team playing with our five five CROCKED FOR 25 MINUTES!

Proctor is in the ruck that the ball came from. McKenzie is heading wide and has to change direction completely. Both of them try desperately to get back and dive on the ball, while Jordan - who the pass goes in front of - drops his head and lets Pollock run through - does not even try to get back and cover. He's one of our quickest, and he lets their flanker run away without bothering to chase.

I have zero problem with Ratima swapping jerseys with Pollock and welcome it. It's always been part of the game since time immemorial. Meads used to take cases of beer into the opposition's dressing room after a game. Said it was how he made so many friends in the game.

I actually find that Nonu story hard to believe. Nonu is/was renowned for fraternising with opposition players and how it was key to his love for the game. So much so, he once broke his arm and made a point of leaving his jersey on his opposite number's peg before heading off to the hospital.

I have zero problem with Ratima swapping jerseys with Pollock and welcome it. It's always been part of the game since time immemorial. Meads used to take cases of beer into the opposition's dressing room after a game. Said it was how he made so many friends in the game.

I actually find that Nonu story hard to believe. Nonu is/was renowned for fraternising with opposition players and how it was key to his love for the game. So much so, he once broke his arm and made a point of leaving his jersey on his opposite number's peg before heading off to the hospital.

I just relistened. He said they are notorious for not letting people in to their dressing room. But they come into yours. They didnt swap after Chicago. Conor Murray tells the story of how it was O'Mahoney going in to get McCaws jersey after the 60-0 drubbing in Hamilton in 2012 and Nonu refused him entry.

I don't mind them making friendly after the match. That is the way it is today. As long as we smashed the crap out of them on the pitch first. I'm not sure it's about lack of effort for many of our players. It all starts with selection and game plan to give our best combination of players the chance to excel

I listened to a podcast recently where Conor Murray told an anecdote from his new book of how he tried to go into the Allblacks dressing room to get a jersey swap and Ma'a Nonu was stood outside eating.

He turns to Murray and says "where are you going?" "eh I was going in to swap a shirt" "you're not going in there mate".

ABs have almost always invited opposition in for a beer , remember McCaw and Jerry Collins talking about it. I like it, I of the old school where you beat the shit out of each other and as soon as whistle goes you all mate playing same sport!
I know one of reasons that Umaga and Gregan both ended up playing for Toulon, they talked about playing in same team while having beers after a test.

It's one of the great things about rugby. Unlike say football fans, rugby fans of all teams are generally happy to have a chat anytime

Yep mate, one of reasons I really enjoy going to tests is before and after games in a pub , I will generally try and have beers with opposition supporters, it just part of why I have always followed our game, I in general enjoy the company of rugby people!

@Dan54 IIRC the floor sweeping thing has always been a part of what these guys did, but add in the SM and you have today's game.
