Match thread

Duluth

The Blues have named their side for Saturday night’s Super Rugby Pacific clash against the Hurricanes at Eden Park.

Loose forward Dalton Papali’i has been ruled out after suffering a jaw injury in last week’s match against the Crusaders.

Papali’i’s absence sees Anton Segner slot in at openside flanker, while Malachi Wrampling earns another start at blindside.

There are several other changes, with Marcel Renata returning at tighthead prop, Beauden Barrett starting at first five, Xavi Taele at centre and AJ Lam on the right wing.

Head coach Vern Cotter said the team is ready to respond in front of a home crowd.

“Last week hurt and the group knows we need to be better in the areas that matter. We’ve had a strong week of preparation and there’s real intent around the way we want to play on Saturday night,” he said.

“The Hurricanes are in top form, so we know the challenge in front of us and the focus is on delivering an accurate, physical performance.

“There’s always a lift playing at home. Our fans create a special atmosphere for the players and we look forward to getting back out there in front of them again on Saturday.”

Saturday night will also feature a huge game day experience for fans attending Eden Park, including a pre-match laser and light show, live music from Kings performing in The Corner, and a dedicated kids zone featuring LEGO giveaways.

Hard to see us winning this one without Paps but the Canes are not usually the same team without Roigard.

I'm not a fan of Enari, but he's been playing better this season so far. If the forwards are on song he will have time to deliver good ball to Love

@canefan yeah I agree he's been playing better.

Bones

Bason turfed already after looking good last week?

Seeing Beehre on the injury list made me realise I'd completely forgotten about him. Would be good to see him get back and rip it up, seems the style of player Rennie would opt for.

Landers92

Some pretty cool stuff from the blues. Hopefully the fans turn out in good numbers.

The maligned and past it for 10 years BB to start.

Will be interesting as the Blues have only dropped one game this season with BB starting, and that was against the Canes.

He's pretty useful at SR level. But for the good of the ABs I hope Love dominates him

This is a must-win for us. Lose this and collect no points and we likely end up in 5th or 6th and facing the Canes/Chiefs away in the first round of finals.

A win against either the Canes orChiefs will most likely secure a top three finish.

@canefan Agreed would like to see Love start at 10 in the first test like they backed Carter at the end of 2004 and put Spencer and Mehrtins to pasture when they were both past their best. Would love to see the end of BB as he has been past his best for about 5 years now.

Vern has gone for experience compared to some of the other teams we've seen this season.

For me Tu’ungafasi , Tuipulotu, and Ahki have been solid at times but never dominant.

Beauden Barrett has had some very good games and some very poor games.

We really need these guys to deliver to win this one.

Tuipulotu

He's looked like a guy coming back from a long injury break. I hope he still has it in him to step up.

African Monkey

So is Nock seen as the starting halfback from now on?

There seems to be a player management plan in place. To manage minutes. We keep cycling through various midfield combinations too.

Bok is listed as ref. I may have to skip this one.

Tim

The Blues were forced to make a late change with veteran midfielder Pita Ahki (quad) ruled out. Cole Forbes was added to the 23 and starts on the right wing, shifting AJ Lam to centre.

The only games we’ve lost this year, he’s been reffing. 🙃

Bovidae

C'mon the Blues. 😄
