Not exactly close losses either.....

@Canes4life team namings can be misleading - a player can be named and then a late change
Will be the case for both teams. Breaking some big news here…
Ruben Love tweaked his calf at training yesterday. Will be undergoing tests/scans to find out the severity. Nervous wait
No update on this today. Taking it as no news is good news for Canes fans. If I find out tomorrow I’ll post in here
@Canes4life Just came to this thread to say that. Seems scans are fine so should be good to go. Sigh of relief for them and the fans I’m sure
Actually in a recent game he looked like he was getting a tight calf near end of game. maybe something they need to watch?

Maybe they should sub him off instead of needlessly playing him 80 minutes like Laidlaw did last week.....
He makes some baffling coaching decisions.

Harkin was limping so he was the one that was pulled, otherwise Love probably would have been.

Even if that was the case
He should have taken Love off and played with 14 if need be
Razor did it a few years ago
A) you werent going to lose - you were ahead by a heap against a Broken Brums
B) even if you did somehow lose - your season would have continued

Oh I 100% agree with you. The game was done and dusted and he should have pulled Love no doubt.
Just providing a reason why he maybe wasn’t pulled. Dumb coaching though as you say.
Canes have posted 22k tickets sold. Thought they would get a bit more than that a day out. Hopefully there is a solid walk up crowd as well to really fill those yellow seats

I expect they will get in excess of 25K, maybe close to 27K if the weather is good

I feel carnt lose with who ever wins this game. hurricanes lose is a huge choke if blues lose well its only the blues
Yup pressure all on the Canes here. Blues with a free hit.
In saying that, and no, I'm not doing the reverse psychology trick here, but I really do expect a flogging here. Something along the lines of 58-26.
To make it to the semis is a bit of an over achievement for the blues this season. But on paper, a title and two play off series isn't so bad for overall result.
Just as long as the blues don't play as bad the crusaders did last night.
For some of the players it could be their last game for the Blues.

Yes. My opinion hasn't changed from the middle of the season. The squad is 4th best because it lacks depth to cope with injuries. However the transition year has gone better than I expected
The Canes should win relatively comfortably. We have a punchers chance though. The key stat will be possession. We haven't had much issues scoring points but the attitude in defence has gone missing.. we need the line speed back and the midfielders to stop missing 1 on 1 tackles

Yeah, we have touched on it a few times on how we are in transition, but at the same time, feel like we are on track, and yes, pressure can do funny things to sides (Hurricanes 2024). A good crop of kids coming through.
I do think, as you've touched on defense, that Cotter and McGrath are moving on at the right time. They've left is in decent shape to move forward, but I think things have gone stale at the same time under them.

There is just a lot of young players after our best players moved on to make some dosh. It's a rebuilding phase. The new players are simply not experienced enough or in some cases good enough to replace the other players to the same calibre.
Taele is talented but will he ever have the same impact as peak Ioane, Lam and Heem? He just doesn't have the size and isn't as talented or fast as a Toeava.
NZ TAB
Hurricanes: $1.10
Blues: $6.50
Spread: 18 pts
Try to get through the first half without conceding more than two tries.

He's only in his first full season, and he's more of a 10/12 than a 12/13 for me. Gives me Lee Stensness vibes with the way he plays. I think as you said, a very talented player, but I do think he has a high ceiling as well. Might not be with us next season if the rumours are true.
