Fantasy Super Rugby

@Bones you suck at this game (slightly worse than me)

Canes4life

As we head into week 8 this is how the top 20 stacks up in the Ferner's Fantasy League. Day light saving ends this week and with inclement weather likely to impact many games moving forward the second half of the season is going to impact player points a lot more than the first half of the season. Selections this week for me are fairly straight forward with all teams taking the field.

antipodean

ohh, there's a top 20 club.

@antipodean stay in your lane pal! Be better 🙂

What I found tricky this week is I'd usually want plenty of Chiefs and Reds players but their game looks to have the worst weather?

Yeah that's what I'm talking about above, there will be a few games where Fantasy players will need to make selection choices right on kick-off to see what the weather is like etc. I've got a couple of Chiefs players in my team atm but might need to swap them out prior to kick-off if it's bucketing down.

HugeCarrot2

I've got Mckenzie as captain as it's hard not to pick him, Wilson for the Reds, but a few other 50-50 calls I just went for the guys in the fine weather games. Will check how it's looking before the game when I make sure my team isn't getting the "Pregame Injured Chiefs Player Shafting" for the 3rd time this season.

No Quarter

If they put more value on forward play then the wet weather wouldn't be such a factor, but as it stands you want players from really high scoring games in your team

KiwiPie

I'm holding up the top 20 - ahead of @paj which is how I am judging my success!

That could be a make or break selection having McKenzie at 10 this week if it's raining. A risk that may payoff is picking someone like Havili or Barrett instead as they are likely to play on a flat hard track tomorrow night so should get more running metres.

Canes4life

I think I'm about the only one that has dropped DMac this week, hope it pays off.

Interesting the "Cal7" guy who has been leading/top 5 for ages didn't use a single player from Chiefs or Reds, likely because of the weather

Yeah neither have I. I learnt that lesson when the Chiefs played Fiji and no one scored points.

taniwharugby

I only had Dmac and McReight and moved up 1 spot in the TSF elite

taniwharugby

And that right there is how I rocketed into the top 25....

Yeah I think this was the first week I'd rolled out both Kyren and Caleb as they'd been so consistent....

Super Rugby round 8 proved to be a challenging round for many with a number of key picks failing to fire. Many of us ran into the trouble of selecting the wrong outside backs, players that have previously scored big but only managed single digits. For example I selected Tangitau and Taumoefolau who got 6 and 1 respectively.

The full table after round 8 is below.

I made a last minute decision to move the captaincy from Dmac to Tangitau given the rain on Friday. Cost me 59 points and two positions on the table.

I did exactly the same mate, thought it was a game changer, then Tangitau decides to have a quiet game for the first time this season. The ball really didn't go his way unfortunately.

This week may have the widest bunch of potential starters-no real standouts in a few positions and some regular options like Mckenzie and Barrett out at 10. And maybe the MP-Drua game looking like being the highest scoring?

An update in the standings heading into the last two rounds of the compeititon before the playoffs.

@Dolamite holds a narrow lead over @RacingCarrot, with @Landers92 putting the pressure on in 3rd place.

Check out where you sit in the standings below, will be interesting to see if a number of players still have their boosters to play which could see a shift in rankings as we close out the round robin phase of Super Rugby.

Does it say anywhere how many players there are in total? e.g. it has me at about 5000th overall, but out of how many? I can't seem to find that anywhere

taniwharugby

@No-Quarter ooh look at you....

well I'm 12,090 if that helps....

KiwiPie

My players seem to get injured early in the game - or before the game starts. And how is everyone using the "unlimited budget" booster? It seems hard to run out of money.

I think there were around 34K when the season kicked off, so you're not doing badly.

I feel you, I've been in the same boat quite a number of times this season where players have gone down early in the game. Case and point with Bailyn Sullivan against the Landers.

Hopefully next year they will bring in replacement options.

Thanks, it's weird, you'd think total number of players would be a critical piece of information to display on the main leaderboard.

taniwharugby

@KiwiPie thats the only booster I have not yet used, like many I expect.

I think maybe when setting up my 1st round teamI might have exceeded budget and had to revise, but have not needed to since.

Does this run into the playoffs? I expect picking the best team in the playoffs could become hard. But I haven’t been close to using my budget this season, seems a bit easy, something I’m sure they’ll rectify next year.

taniwharugby

Well those of you that have Taumoefolou, I just selected him for my team, every time I have done that, he has scored f-all points...you have been warned

Hahah same here, pretty much every time I've gone to select an outside back in form, they haven't performed the week I've put them in my Fantasy side. Talk about frustrating.

I'm tossing up between Narawa and Taumoefolau, I'll probably go with the former as I think the Chiefs will be more dominant.

So I think that's it? They are not doing the finals? In the T&Cs it says the promotion period is: From 11:00 NZDT 7 February 2025 until 21:00 NZST on 31 May 2025. I can see it hasn't ticked over to the next round for selections.

Thanks to @Canes4life for setting up the league, it was pretty fun though it could use some pretty key improvements next year, like making the budget meaningful and introducing player prices fluctuating. I was around 20th in our league for most of the year, but made a late surge including having my triple booster on DMac for the Moana game which went pretty well, so ended up 7th and 3359th overall.

Congrats to RacingCarrot for taking it out.

taniwharugby

@No-Quarter in addition, you need to be able to have reserves, so if someone is.injured last minute they slot into your lineup rather than you playing with 1 less, cos.thats how it happens in real life.

You’re right, it looks like that’s it. Cheers to everyone for taking part, definitely hope they make a few changes next year.

Congrats to Racing Carrot for being the inaugural Fantasy Ferner’s League champion. 👍

@taniwharugby hope they have a Fantasy Rugby for the Bunnings NPC but we all know it will take NZ Rugby another 20 years to sign that off and by then the NPC be well and truly a distant memory

KiwiPie

Thanks @Canes4life I enjoyed it even if it was a bit frustrating. Fairly happy with 14th place given how little thought I put into it

taniwharugby

@Steven-Harris cant see it sadly....there used to be one many years ago, was a pretty good one too.
