Comm Games Glasgow?

Donsteppa

One of the NZ Herald sport editors wrote an end of Commonwealth Games 'colonial relic' opinion piece before the games started.

Not every sporting event should have to be Olympic or Football World Cup scale to continue.

And imagine writing off the Commonwealth Games to Zoe Hobbs or Lewis Claireburt tonight...

Oh nice we have 3 Golds now, look over at Oz's tally...34 Golds and counting...

are we ahead of the least athletic country on earth India yet?

it's a bit of a joke though, as of yesterday afternoon Queensland was first on the medal table.

Remove the ~stat padding~ swimming and it's not quite so dominating.

I've just seen a replay of Zoe's SF. It was absolutely pissing down, worse than the other SFs.

These are the most Scottish games ever, the tight bastards aren't even paying for them. 🙂

Victoria paying for them to be held elsewhere.

its pretty frustrating as Melbourne has lots of these venues...they could have moved what they could to existing venues, trimmed the number of sports like Glasgow have...but theyre jus decided if they couldnt do the region thing they were doing it at all

We are slow starters. Things will improve in the later part of the games.

Just watched Zoe's final run. Strong start and managed to hold the field off in the final 20m. Lovely reaction from her after a historic win.

Meritorious silver for Lauren Bruce too. I remember her nightmare in Birmingham, to medal in Glasgow must have been nice to get the monkey off her back

Don’t blink, it’s going to be over in a few days.

A few sports we have medaled in previously are not there this time.

It's a swim and athletics meet?

I haven't been watching any FTA so it feels like uni games.

Bones

"Resurgence from England in the second quarter".

Which was scored 13-13. Good grief.

Bones

"Momentum definitely with the roses in the second quarter".

I have enjoyed these games. Not the Olympics, but I don't think they need to be. Nice to watch athletics and cyclists get a chance in the limelight.

I have developed a renewed enjoyment of these Games after watching Jamaica make it through to the netball final but in true ANZAC brotherhood offer my best wishes to Australia for their bronze medal clash with England.
