@chris-b Anthony Joshua last week was predicting Parker would run out of puff - what would he know eh?

It pretty much went as I expected. It has been apparent for a long time that Parker couldn't make the step up from fighting bums to being competitive at the upper echelon.

He's simply a journeyman who got lucky then got found out.

Not helped at all by Barry's obvious limitations as a trainer and the fact that Team Parker is the gravy train for Barry and Higgins. Not accusing them of being the traditional scum leeches boxing attracts but they are way to close to JP.

Higgins has actually managed Parker to two good paydays - time to retire and count the millions

I always felt joe was more a manufactured boxer than a natural one ,
You get the same thing in rugby , where you get natural footballers that play the game in front of them , instinctive , it all comes natural ,
Joe never quite had that look about him for me ,not at the higher level, had some good athletic traits but the boxing skills didn't flow out of him, and when in deep water , he looked confused.
But he fought at the top level and won a world title , not many kiwis have achieved that , so still deserves credit for achieving that .

How much of this analysis is being done without watching the whole fight?
I haven't seen it either but from some of what I have read the headbutt JP took certainly had an effect of the way the fight went after that.
I'm not saying he was robbed just that comments about his abilities should maybe take that into account.
One thing apparent about the preparation of JP is that there always seems to be hindsight reasons after a loss or tough fight. It's like there isn't enough contingency and mental training for when things don't go to plan which is bizarre when you consider how rarely a fight matches the pre-fight predictions and how often outside factors such as refs can influence how it goes on the night.
They knew Whyte was a brawler but didn't appear to plan for the inevitable low blow or accidental head clash.

The headbutt imho would have had bugger all impact. Looked more like a clash of heads than a full on head butt

I watched the fight pretty closely and big thing for me in this fight, and a lot of previous Parker fights was the inability to adapt during the fight. I’m not sure whether it’s Kevin Barry not being able to identify the need to make changes mid fight, not being able to communicate it, or JP being able to execute what he’s being told.

Was a pretty good fight to watch tho despite Parker’s frustrating performance. Would have been interesting to see him open up in the 10th or 11th round like he did in the 12th but hell both he and Whyte were pretty dam tired. Who knows how it would have panned out

I don't think the change has been as noticable as other sports. The heavyweight division has always thrown up a few freaks. I reckon Jim Jeffries (fighter, not comedian) would do ok nowadays. He fought at 6 2 and about 100kg over a hundred years ago although obviously today he'd be considered merely big as opposed to gigantic.

Higgins is considering appealing the result. If Joe is serious about continuing his career this is not the way to go.

The headbutt should not have been scored as a knock down and Joe should have won that round 10-9. Allegedly...They are claiming it should have been a draw.

Meanwhile Whyte is pouring salt on the wound, that big Himalayan shit with the bit of pepper in it too, by saying his ribs were broken and his hand was fucked a few weeks out from the fight. He claims to have beaten Parker while broken.

JP may not be a champ at the moment but he's a damn sight better than either of those two.
I guess he has to keep on plugging away until another chance comes his way.
Someone new will eventually come on the scene at he will be on their radar as they try to prove their worth.

@kiwiinmelb hell yeah. Have been hearing Wilder talking for so long I want to see what he can deliver against Fury. Is Fur the ultimate wildcard? If he's fit and genuinely focused he's gonna be tough for Wilder. But Wilder has real stopping power. Just hoping it'll be an active and aggressive fight, rather than them dancing around trying to land a single punch to finish it. Def want to see a KO though!!

Not JPs standing as such. His ranking is still respectable (depending on the organisation) but his ability to get a fight with others that are ranked highly. Not only did he lose his matches he didn’t perform in a manner that has fans wanting a rematch
It’s all about climbing up to a point then waiting out your chance. He’s had his shot for the moment and now needs to wait again.
If he can hold back newcomers trying to get up with the big boys (be a gatekeeper) until others retire or get beaten down, eventually he may get another chance as a fill in fight.
When there are a few deserved candidates around though, it’s all about positioning and waiting.

Parker needs to develop that "old man" power. Right now he is quick and not much else.

I have a good mate, cousin actually, that is always correcting me on my boxing nous(me and my brothers are the non boxers in the family). I said he needs a new trainer. My cuz(who has a good amateur record and 5 pro fights so knows a bit) reckons Parker can't switch trainers at this point. He thinks he's too far gone and Barry is his guy.

I say "fuck that". Get this guy on Fury's team and we'd see a marked improvement. Get him John David Jackson or fucken anyone at this point.

Yep. Even after Fury started throwing there was no dynamism in the fight.

I was disappointed in Hughie. I thought he could get up here but his movement which was so good against Parker was missing, and his right hand has got to be one of the most telegraphed shots I've seen. Pulev found a home with his famous jab and Hughie went into survival mode once his stamina failed him.

I can't say I'm excited at the prospect of Joshua v Pulev as Joshua hammers him.

Raz what is it about Fury that makes him so highly ranked? To me he looks like a bloke with a massive reach and enough skill to keep out of harms way but not a great deal else. Also his conditioning at times speaks for itself.

@mn5 Im not a Tyson Fury fan and I think Deontay Wilder will knock him out if he get within range. But Fury can box and he is probably the best "boxer" in the division and yeah he does know how to use his jab and his ridiculous reach advantage.

He is also a continuous moving target , his feet never stop moving ,

6 foot nine , massively long arms and a nice mover ,

I think the big concern for him against Wilder , is he underdone ?

a long time out , and had 2 warm up fights against bums , if he cant keep up the evasiveness for 12 rounds , I agree , he will be going to sleep.

@kiwiinmelb I feel he's ready, he's down to his fighting weight and he'll get plenty of quality sparring which for me would be as good as fighting another durable gatekeeper like he did with Pianeta last time out. Great to see these fights getting made and glad they're not waiting for AJ and Hearn who don't seem to want anything to do with Wilder for the near future anyway.
