@Cyclops if Eric Bieniemy doesn't get a HC job offer it will be a crime

I'm a bit meh on him to be honest. Really hard to say what is him, what is Reid and what is the talent on the field. I don't know much about him but supposedly there is some off field stuff that might turn teams off but I've only seen articles allude to it, never talk about it outright.

I don't love the trend of hiring the hot coordinator. Head coach is a massively different job and the skills are quiet different. I think the ideal hire is someone with experience as an nfl coordinator and running a show either an college or nfl level. Hard to find the former, and hc's at nfl generally only shake loose because they're not doing well.

All that said, everyone has to start somewhere and the interview process will hopefully weed out the guys who are going to spend all their time gameplanning one side of the ball and not doing any of the other work a hc needs to do.

As a Cowboys fan I have no sympathy for the NYG, especially after they beat us today. 🙂 The NFC East really sucks now.

And now 7-9 Washington hosts the 11-5 Tampa Bay...

Joe Judge having a massive cry with his cryptic “it’s about the sacrifice” makes it even sweeter 😀

Hey Joe, your team went 6-10, win more games...

KiwiMurph

I don't think Judge was having a cry - he's sending a message to both his locker room and Philly's locker room for 2021.

And Derrick Henry becomes only the 8th player in history to rush for more than 2,000 yards.

He's some kind of running back. At 27, he'll just be hitting his prime right now which is scary.

nzzp

@RoninWC strong candidate for MVP. Won't get it, but should I think. 2,000 yard season is nuts

KiwiMurph

Over 1500 yards rushing for Henry last regular season too.

Nearly 2000 yards if you include last year's playoffs.

What a player.

ACT Crusader

Now that the regular season is over, time to relive some of the great plays.

I’ll start with the best finish to a game...

27 is pretty old for an RB, this is basically his prime. 2 more seasons, 3 max. RB decline is also pretty strongly linked to workload, so Henry's massive workload might affect that too.

Not if you look at his time in the NFL...

His first 2 seasons, 2016 and 17, he started only 2 games each season. In 2018 he took over the starting role and broke a 1,000 for the season for the first time.

It has only been the past two seasons has been when he has shouldered most of the workload. So I think, and as I said, he has clearly hit his prime and will have a good few more seasons ahead. But I don't think he would be close to burnout from too heavy a workload given his actual record in the NFL any time soon.

One of the things I really like about him is that he is also a good receiver when needed and has pulled of some clutch receptions over the past few seasons.

And for the record, he also set the following NFL records:
First player to record a 200+-yard and 4+-touchdown game on fewer than 22 carries
Tied for longest run in NFL history at 99 yards (Tony Dorsett – 1982)
First player in NFL history with 180+ rushing yards in three consecutive games
Most rushing yards in first 4 playoff games: 561
First player to have 180+ rushing yards in consecutive playoff games
Most rushing yards in any eight-game stretch in NFL history: 1,273

canefan

@RoninWC He's huge too, like prime Marshawn Lynch

canefan

He isn't really a smash bang RB either (on the limited footage I watch), he is very elusive skipping his way through lines in the O line. And once he's in space he has a killer fend

nzzp

@RoninWC and almost singlehandedly knocked Brady's Patriots out at home last season. We'll always have that... And Vrabel running the clock on Belichek too of course 👍

Absolutely, he has really good feet and a nose for a gap.

And for such a big man, Height: 1.91 m and Weight: 108 kg, he's got some toe on him. He really showed that in the 99 yard run for a TD, a quick step to the outside when he got past the line of scrimmage and then those fends... WOW!

Would make a great 12 if someone would teach him how to pass laterally off both hands 😄

KiwiMurph

In the most Cleveland Browns news ever their head coach has tested positive to COVID-19 so he won't be on the sideline for their playoff game this weekend.

ACT Crusader

Great to see DeVonta Smith win the Heisman. It’s been ages since a wide receiver got it. Smith is lightning quick and will be ready made for the NFL.

nzzp

Bills looking verrrry relaxed going into the playoffs. Going to be a great couple of days over Sun/Mon NZT - 3 games a day

nzzp

settled in on the couch for Indy Buffalo

Good game so far. Josh Allan making some great throws with weird mechanics - just biffing it. Good defence too, enjoyable

KiwiMurph

@nzzp That non-fumble call at the end by the refs was absurd. Just an awful ref decision.

It's amazing that whatever the sport, even the richest league in the world, with a million HD replays, the referees can blow calls.

Thankfully it didn't change the result.

it was an absolute shocker.

I'm only just tuning into Rams Hawks now - what's been going on? Rams D outstanding?

I was surprised that they didn't have another camera angle to see whether the hand touched the back of the player before or after his knee left the ground. With the footage we were shown I wasn't surprised the call on the field stood. But it didn't look right.

Rams D is outstanding but Seahawks offense has been really bad lately. It's Russell Wilson and nobody else.

KiwiMurph

That was one hell of a performance Taylor Heinicke the unheralded QB for Washington.

He went toe to toe with Brady and put on quite a show - very fun player to watch.

It's worth Washington seeing if he can be there answer at QB next season.

KiwiMurph

Bears are showing the problem with expanding the playoffs.

You just end up including mediocre teams which impacts the quality of the playoff games.

ACT Crusader

Has the Steelers defence gotten off the team bus yet?

Browns are falling apart here. Steelers with all the momentum now.

Browns just aren’t meant to be in the playoffs 😉

KiwiMurph

@ACT-Crusader Browns must have heard us. Chubb with a huge TD.

KiwiMurph

Landry has been awesome today.

Cyclops

4th pick für Big Ben. I'm only able to follow online, but feels like the steelers made a mistake not going for it on 4th and one when they'd had two tds and two quick stops. They took a delay of game penalty so I assume the plan was to draw the opposition offsides or get an encroachment, but with all that momentum they should have gone for it and backed their offence.

KiwiMurph

@Cyclops agreed. Steelers don't change coaches but Tomlin will be in for some real criticism with this one.

Cyclops

From 11-0 to wild card round loss to a divisional rival. That's gotta sting.

not just a loss, but a beat down. Shipping 4 ints, 28 points in Q1 (most in playoff history), and getting smoked is remarkable. I think Ben's record against the Browns was 24/25 ... just insane really.

Well done the Browns, they deserve some good after all the horrible horrible years they have had

Bovidae

The Browns win was even more impressive when you consider their head coach and 2 influential players weren't in Pittsburgh because of covid. The commentators also mentioned the team had only practised once in the last 2 weeks, and that some of the players had only just met some teammates.

mariner4life

Browns beating the Steelers is LOL

Cyclops

I just read that the browns were missing their two top cbs. Stick a fork in Big Ben. The Steelers are probably one of the few teams that pay 3 or 4 first round picks for Watson and still win that trade. They are so good at developing players. They've got to be thinking about it.

And OBJ is out hurt

raznomore

@canefan TBF he wasn't adding much and I think he's done.

KiwiMurph

Things aren't looking that rosey for Steelers - an ageing team going up against Lamar Jackson, a finally competent Browns and an exciting Burrow in the division is all of a sudden not easy.
