I agree that funding the travel and accommodation wouldn't be an issue. Nor finding flights / aircraft. Nor flying into Wgtn which is totally and utterly irrelevant. I'm sure our grounds could facilitate the amount of staff required, even if it meant reduced capacities to create areas for staff and players. All this stuff can be worked with and/or around.

If players keep bailing which reduces the level of the comp, and assuming the same players would travel to NZ, and in light of the issues MLB is already having to start their season, I think the stakeholders inc owners and fans could get behind the idea. I think there is a legitimate chance the season may not otherwise take place.

If they start as planned and games are called off due to positive tests, I don't see how or when they'd make this up. I'd also suggest the Superbowl could still be held as normal in the US as its a one-off event. The world's largest single annual sporting occasion would be in no danger whatsoever of not taking place if everyone involved in it was able to travel from Covid-free NZ.

I think you are underestimating logistics. Do you think an NFL team is going to train at Rugby League Park in Wellington (where the Hurricanes normally train)? It's getting all the equipment and supplies as well. There would be 100s of things we can't even comprehend.

Not to mention quarantine is basically full already. So you would be letting a sports league into the country while saying that citizens have to wait. It's unpalatable.

And for what? Not like the NZ Government will make any money out of it. You'd get some tourism when borders open, but that could still be 18 months away.

You might create a few jobs but not enough to offset the logistical nightmares such an operation would present.

You guys seem to be missing the point which is that drastic measures might be required to make the season happen. If the NFL was being realistic or prescient right now they'd have to be pondering the very real possibility that they need to play in a bubble. And the options for a bubble are either an NBA style bubble or to play somewhere safe offshore. If the former is problematic, the latter may be less problematic.

couldn't they just relocate to College stadia in the flyover states? Fence off the teams and see what happens? I mean, it'd be lord of the flies on steroids creatine, but goddamn coudl be fun to watch

sparky

I think a NFL bubble or bubbles within the US is much more likely to happen. Washington State, Missouri or Maryland have been mentioned.

shark

I think someone in this country should put our hand up for it, be it the sports minister, NZR or whomever. There is no harm in saying we're keen, we'll enable, these are the benefits, and this is what it'll cost you.

Tom-pa Bay getting another offensive weapon

RB Leonard Fournette has an agreement in principle to join Buccaneers.

fuck you!

i wanted to go to the races today but i can't even do that, let alone sit at home doing that

mariner4life

@nzzp eat absolutely all of the dick

NTA

Sorry gents I already went out to dinner on Monday night for the anniversary.

It did NOT result in the kind of eating I wanted 😐 but the barramundi was nice.

nzzp

fun game today, enjoyed it.

Mods - maybe update the title to take out Bubble NZ. Bet the NFL is glad they didn't come over after all 😐

NTA

@mariner4life It was NOT nice compared to what I actually wanted out the evening.

Honestly cannot remember last time I got the goods on my birthday or our anniversary. For her birthday my gift is "leave you the fuck alone there ya go" but the rest should be a little more active I think!

shark

@NTA ok i think we get it.

Denver lose MNF to the Titans

Mainly because while leading in the 4th, the defense earns starting position inside the Tennessee half, and they go three-and-out.

Of course then Tannehill goes the length to earn the game winning FG

In other games, Cam Newton scores two touchdowns leading the fucking Patriots to a win

The Washington Football Team won a game.

The Browns still suck

TOM BRADY IS FINISHED LOL

San Fran lost to the Cards

barbarian

I reckon Arizona is the sleeper team this year, they looked really good.

Yet more evidence the Texans are morons - who the hell trades away DeAndre Hopkins? Indefensible.

KiwiMurph

Chiefs I think will end up going back-to-back as champions. Their path back to the Super Bowl looks clear as there aren't many other contenders in the AFC aside from the Ravens and their QB hasn't won a single playoff game yet.

In a few years the Bengals might be a contender though. Joe Burrow looked really good yesterday.

nzzp

Seahawks get up and win a great game against the Pats.

Cam Newton is great fun, and fantastic to watch. Played really well, can't wait to see what Belichek will do with him

Bovidae

And the Cowboys came from 20 pts down in the 1st Q and then 19 pts at HT to take their first lead of the game with a FG as time expired.

they play some absolutely humdingers. Luckily I was unspoiled after that, so could also watch the Ravens Texans, with two outstanding young QBs. NFL is back to being fun I think- one of the interceptions by the Ravens was absolutely pure athleticism and timing; just sensational to watch.

also, a player got ejected for head to head contact. Fantastic - it's that sort of brutal hit that has to be stamped out ... not much you can do about the repeated contact, but you can stop teh big stuff.

barbarian

The injury toll has been brutal, but I agree the games have been heaps of fun. Saints vs Raiders should be good today.

But whoever is setting the schedule needs their head checked. Can't wait for Thursday night football, this week it's a blockbuster clash between... the Jags and the Dolphins. Blergh.

nzzp

@barbarian Thursday night matchups usually suck donkey balls. Not sure why, it should be awesome time slot

nzzp

Las Vegas raiders still just seems wrong somehow. Like the Hamilton Blues 😐

You've got that right - 49ers lost their best defensive player and another defensive lineman for the season to torn ACLs.

It will be interesting what comes out of the NFL investigating the field quality of that game in New York (49ers have to play there again this coming week). You have to wonder about some of these artificial turfs - it's not like it's a dome either it's an open air stadium - billion dollar franchises that can't sort out a field.
