Tiger ends the day 1 under. How good!

How good was 18???

Man golf has a lot to thank Tiger for!

KiwiMurph

It looks like after Round 1 the score to make the cut is sitting at +2 (or better)

barbarian

What a belter of an opening round. Set up for an awesome weekend. Big guns at the top (Smith, Scheffler, DJ), Rory not tanking his opening round like he has for the last five years (yet as I write this sentence he misses a 3ft par putt on 14), and of course Tiger muthafukkin Woods doing his thing. How. Good.

Hooroo

I'm such a giggly fan of what Tiger has done today, I can't stop reading about it.

Love this from him: “I felt good,” Woods said. “Once the adrenaline kicks in and I get into my own little world, I knew I should be able to handle business.”

14 months out, and being in contention of one of the greatest majors of the year is "handling business"

That's some mental toughness.

Sqqquuuueeeeee 🙂

taniwharugby

Tiger battling today +3 on the board playing 13, as are many right now, with -4 leading.

voodoo

Jeez he still swings hard doesn't he?

taniwharugby

@voodoo I expect its all he knows how to do, go hard or go home 😉

Movement on the scoreboard in the back 9

The tiger effect is insane .... for what it's worth, I don't think he'll make the cut.

Time is right for Cameron Smith / Scottie Scheffler for me.

Tiger made the cut. Scottie Scheffler leads by 5 after 72 holes and must be the big favourite now.

taniwharugby

Schwartzel, playing with leader Scheffler has just holed out for 2 on 10 to move to -6, which is typically a tough hole, but he is still 5 back, although Scheffler has a tough up and down ahead of him on 10.

Smith sits on -5 through 12, Lowry-4 through 10 as the only other one right now in touch.

taniwharugby

for a short time Cam SMith had closed the gap to 3, -7 v -10, but a Smith bogey on 16 and Scheffler birdie on 13 restored the 5 shot gap.

Poor old Kevin Na, 5 putt 6 on 16.

MajorStokes

Back to 3 with Smith done.

Awesome final day coming up. Mr momentum vs Mr consistent

taniwharugby

Back to 4 with a lucky bounce for Scheffler (-10) setting him up a nice bird on 17, while Schwartzel continues to fall away now back at -2

Scheffler has gone bush off the 18th...cameras didnt pick up the end position

taniwharugby

hugely technical 2 club drop for Scheffler after his ball was dead, still not a great spot.

taniwharugby

@tim it was, came out hot, a bit of spin it would have been sensational

taniwharugby

Last pair tomorrow will be Scheffler (-9) Smith (-6) then IM (-4) Lowry & Schwartzel (-2) Tomas and Conners only others under par at -1

antipodean

That second (third) shot by Scheffler was a nice recovery. Good round by Cameron Smith.

JK

Final round baby!

Cam Smith has come out firing too birdie birdie and now at -8, just one off Scheffler at -9

JK

Wow Scheffler just chips in for birdie on the 3rd. Both he and Smith had just missed the green with their approaches and balls rolled back to within a foot from each other at the bottom of the hill. Scheffler bang in the hole. Smith likely to bogey so two shot swing

Scheff asks Smith to hold his beer…..

What a chip!!

JK

Smith back to back bogies to undo all his good work over the first two holes

taniwharugby

Rory going hard, eagled 13 to get 1 back from Smith, still 5 back from Scheffler

taniwharugby

Rory in the clubhouse at -7 (3 back) after a sizzling 65 today, Scheffler has a decent chance at birdie on 13.

That was the tournament right there. Scheffler was wobbling big time, and had his lead cut to one at that point he could have self combusted.

Instead he plays an amazing chip and Smith bogeys. It settles Scheffler and Smith never really recovers.

Yep 100% - C Smith was coming in hot and bang.....all changed from there.

Kane Williamson absent from the Caps and Zalatoris leading the pga ….

taniwharugby

Apparently that is not a proper tee box...

"It's not a hole-in-one, because it wasn't really a par 3," Brady said. "We were in the middle of the fairway on a par 4, and I would have had to play the whole round for it to be a real hole-in-one. It was a once-in-a-lifetime shot, that's for sure, but it wasn't a hole-in-one unfortunately. I can't claim that."

Poor old Foxy this morning in the Dutch Open. Was playing brilliantly then double bogey on the last and in to a playoff which he lost on the 4th playoff hole (after some great golf).

And now Steve Alker wins again on the Senior PGA, one of the senior majors too with a final round 63!

Can anyone do an analysis of money earned pre and post Senior tour for Alker?

Im sure it will be covered in one of the media articles about to come out. It'll be one hell of a contrast thats for sure

JK

Forgot to mention, Michael Campbell also played in the Senior PGA event and finished +4 in T55.

taniwharugby

@JK and the huge putt Periera sunk to force the play off.

Do wonder if Fox could do with improving his fitness, he seems to fade late in his rounds and in the weekend....maybe just a coincidence.

Alker is killing it.

@KiwiPie

this shows his seasonal earnings, late 2021 onwards is a different player.
