Tipping 2021

@KiwiPie i can’t remember if I’ve done my tips at the start of the week so I’m going to do them again disregard the former if that’s the case, going senile at the ripe age of 35 😂

KiwiPie

In play update as it is the final weekend. No great movement at the top as most people underestimated the margins of victory. Laurence now leads by a point over Victor. Time and Hooroo dropped back as Tim picked the Reds to win and Hooroo went for the Brumbies. Lawrence is doubling the Crusaders game and needs a 17+ and Victor is doing he same (as is Plastered and Tim) so there won't be a change from that game. It might be a mistake but Laurence has the Blues losing tonight and that result will either lose (or seal) the title.

Laurence v Hooroo in the Cup final is a 7 point lead to Laurence so far.

Tim

@kiwipie Crap, I thought the Hurricanes were the away team!

broughie

@tim I’ve done that before . . Often.

Don't worry, it only cost you a tipping title!

KiwiPie

Everything is added up and

Victor is the Champion.
Laurence is the Cup Winner.

All the leaders made similar choices so it actually came down to not making mistakes in actually submitting your tips. Tim mistakenly went against the Hurricanes and I'm pretty sure that Laurence didn't mean to pick the Force to win. That left the way clear for Victor to take the title by 5 points having been in the lead after every round.

Laurence took the cup from Hooroo 47-44 despite picking the Force mainly because Hooroo picked the Brumbies (presumably intentionally) in a bold move that could have given him a league and cup double if it had come off.

Top scorer for the final week was Crucial who lifted from 21 to 11 with a score of 59.

Canes4life picked the results of 24/25 games correctly which is unprecedented accuracy while many had 23 (picking NZ teams to always win). Tim and Plastered Peni picked 11 of 25 correct with margin while Victor picked most categories (9/20) which was the key to overall victory.

Thanks for playing for this short burst and we'll be back with NPC Tipping in August with 7 games a weekend, teams forming again and all that good stuff.

Crucial

If you’re only as good as your last game that makes me awesome 😉

I did worse in this comp then I did in SRA oh well wait for the NPC to start.

Higgins

Has the Superbru Fern NPC Tipping Competition been reactivated for 2021 yet as I am hoping to improve on my silver medal from last season into a gold medal this time out?

Higgins

Still plenty of space in some of the teams to fill up to their full muster of six. Sme of these maybe/should be interested in joining up in the worlds best tipping competition where there are both individual and teams component.
Regulars/last years tippers still to decide on their tips include
Northland @FarNthHayden @Gunner @justin77
Harbour/Auckland @dice @tim @caprice @Virgil
Counties/Waikato @yeetyaah @Hooroo
Bay of Plenty @sportboy @bayimports @Cactus-Jack @KiwiPie @trooa
Hawkes Bay @Stargazer @propsicle @billsy
Wairarapa Bush @victor @buck
Wellington @Winger @laurence
South Island @Corkscrew @Smudge @Kiwiwomble @Phooey

If some teams are full you will be allocated to another to fill up rosters that might need another tipper, or even the possibility of having a another team like Wellington Development formed if enough want to tip for Wellington! If you were in that boat last season you obviously elect to tip for your preferred option naturally. There is also the individual component as well that also creates a lot of interest.

Others that might want to take the plunge include the likes of @Bovidae @Dan54 @kiwimurph @ACT-Crusader @Daffy-Jaffy @Duluth @booboo @canefan @antipodean @Machpants (Bush might be needing you as both myself and the captain - Waynes World have yet to locate Buck) @MN5 @Number-10 (we seem to struggle to get a 6th tipper for our HB team!) @kev @Pepe @foobaNZ @gt12 @shark @george33 and many others out there that are not listed.

With the lockdown over in Aus there might be a bit more interest from expats over there that will have more time to follow and watch the games (on Stan I believe) so they can have a slightly better idea on who teams are going and thus making picking winners a bit easier. If in doubt you can always use the blindfold and stick a pin in method! Anyway give it some though and get your tips in by 7.05pm NZ time tonight (or if you miss that you can still tip for the remaining games)

booboo

@Higgins

I gave up as I always forget to put my tips in.

That's kind of ok as an individual but untenable if I'm letting down others in a team.

On that basis I rule myself out and I'll sit back and watch.

bayimports

@higgins great commitment from yourself. Will give it a go again..hopefully i remember every week

antipodean

I've tipped as an individual Hopefully I can remember to tip every week.

KiwiMurph

Sounds good - i'm in 🙂

Higgins

Good to see at least three Saffas tipping this year so there is no excuse for anyone from Aussie (or anywhere else for that matter) having a go! Tips from the following received so far
Northland: MuddyRiver, TaniwhaRugby, FarNthHayden, Gunner, Justin77, One still needed
Harbour/Auckland: DK, Fiamacho, Andrew Farrell, Dogmeat, Two still needed
Counties/Waikato: Mikedogz, Crucial, OomPB, Unite, Hooroo, One still needed how about @OleOleOle ????
Bay of Plenty: Donsteppa, Bayimports, Sportboy, Three still needed
Hawkes Bay: Delicatessen, PAJ, Stockcar86, Higgins, Two still needed
Wairarapa Bush: Waynes World, Triple T, Langakali, Plastered Peni, Victor, One still needed
Wellington: Hurrycanes, Richie, Canes4Life, Mikey07, Hydro11, Laurence, Roster fill but still enter for Wellington if you want as KP will make the final determination as to the starting lineup
South Island: Broughie, Stag, Four more still required
Individual: Joan & Mary, Jonathan Wiltshire, Kruse, Antipodean, Kiwimurph, Still room for plenty more Remember cut off time if you want to be in for every game is 7.05pm NZ time. Miss that time you can still tip for the remaining games

Kiwiwomble

@higgins i support Otago! you mixing up your blue and gold teams 😉

...i'm also shit at tipping

Higgins

@kiwiwomble Like we all hope we can do at the start of every tipping season you might come good this time round, just like your Otago team promises to do. Plenty of room in the South Island Team for you.

dogmeat

Please those of you prevaricating because your worried you might forget to tip. Give it a go. Then forget. You're all that keeps me off the bottom every year

antipodean

@higgins Happy to join Auckland tipping team. Should probably run that decision by @dK @dogmeat etc. who can review my tipping prowess (or lack thereof).

gt12

Sorry @Higgins I'm out - don't know how much of it I'll be able to see, so will definitely end up letting the side down.

This year I don't think I even managed Super rugby tipping...

@gt12 Soft!

Need a better place to get links as NPC doesn't seem to get picked up by the streamers. It doesn't look like the NPC is on Wowow either.

Tim

@gt12 if you have a hong kong vpn and a wechat account you might be alright

KiwiPie

Just processing the tips and sorting into teams. Absentee tippers who are regulars are @Virgil & @Smudge but all the others appear to have returned which is great news.

New tippers are Andrew Farrell & Jonathan Wiltshire - welcome. There is a Facebook group you can join which has reminders to tip if you're more likely to see it there rather than here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/590271681147113

Post a message on this thread so we know who you are.

KiwiPie

All live now for Week 1 at https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/

Hooroo is the early leader by 7 points after a superb score of 61, only missing the first result and nailing both category picks (Wellington & Northland for high and low score). Antipodean is 2nd with Stargazer in 3rd. Hooroo, Antipodean, Mikedogz, OomPB and Cactus Jack all picked 6/7 results. The fact that the first 4 of those are all in the Counties-Waikato team means they top scored for the round. At the other end of the table, only 22 pts for Andrew Farrell, Delicatessen & FarNthHayden.

Wins for South Island, Counties-Waikato, Bay of Plenty & Wellington in Round 1. South Island picked up the only bonus point for getting 3+ maximums more than their opponent (Wairarapa Bush) and so they are the early leaders.

48 tipped in all so they all slot nicely into 8 teams and all teams have 6 tippers. For those who chose Individual I have assigned you a team - you can see which team it is on the Leaderboard.

The form is live for Week 2.

Sorry KP will have to give this one a miss, i know thats a shock to everyone..its like Reiko pulling out at the last minute for Auckland..mind is everywhere at the moment, work stuff i doubt id remember to tip half the time!

Higgins

@virgil C'mon Virgil you can still do it. Form fluctuates and you have your good weeks and your bad weeks, no better example of this than the likes of @kiwipie who had a bit of a toe stubbing first time up!!!!!

Donsteppa

@virgil said in Tipping 2021:

Tipping half the time but not overthinking it sounds good enough for a Top Ten finish.

Because there is a (BoP) Mafia involved? 🙂 Top ten isn't quite victory either...

The scores are in https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/

In the Teams comp, wins for Counties-Waikato, Wairarapa Bush, South Island & Wellington. Northland were 2 players short and BOP 1 player short (if you don't tip you score 5 less than the lowest score - in this case 17 as DK scored 22).

South Island lead after 2 rounds with Counties-Waikato & Wellington also 2 wins from 2. Hawke's Bay, Harbour-Auckland and Northland all with 2 defeats to start.

Best of the weekend was Dogmeat with 57 points, picking all 7 games (as did TR and Bay Imports). Most picked 6/7 which meant higher scoring overall than last week. Hooroo still holds the overall lead by 6 from Corkscrew and Stargazer with Justin77 up to 4th and Langakali to 5th.

Missing tippers from last week were Jonathan Wiltshire @sportboy @KiwiMurph @Gunner Andrew Farrell and @FarNthHayden
