The awards have been one hell of a roller coaster ride for me. Earlier in the year, during the first attempt at the Fernies, I was mentioned for the first time ever. I walked with a swagger, Mrs Crazy Horse couldn't keep her hands off me or prevent herself from sliding off a chair, the hair on my head grew back, sponsorship offers came flooding in, I was making a killing on the after dinner speech circuit, women in their 20s started throwing their underwear at me again...
As time passed and nothing happened the questions started. Mrs Crazy Horse was the first. At the start she believed me when I said 'soon babe, soon', but as time went on her doubts grew. Then the new Fernies came out. I wasn't mentioned. Her hands stopped wandering. And she wasn't the wasn't the only thing that dried up
The after dinner speech bookings stopped dead. There are no more sponsorship deals and young women are back to looking at me like I am a chanceless bald dirty old man.
Time is a good healer and I am starting to feel better. It's been good to see I am not alone in my disappointment.
