Did anyone else watch the Grand Final preview on Fox with Matty Johns? I swear Gordon Tallis was half cut. Speech was slowed and slurred and he was slow to react to stuff.

Cumulative head knocks?

One thing I do like about the NRL GF compared to the AFL one ,

the diehard fans who follow their team through thick and thin have a much better chance of attending if their team gets through ,

Their tickets are far more accessible to the real fans , the AFL one gets hijacked by Corporate groups , tickets are like gold

I agree the NRL GF seems more accessible for the fans of the competing teams however a considerable chunk of AFL GF tickets go to fans of the game. What the AFL does well is reward those that are loyal through the season (ie pay for memberships whether club, AFL or MCC)

Here’s the 2022 AFL GF spread

  1. Competing club members 16K-40K
  2. AFL clubs - 0-7K
  3. MCC reserve - 16K-26K
  4. AFL members - 13K-18K
  5. AFL / Medallion Club members - 3K-5K
  6. AFL entitlement / contractual obligations - 5K-30K
  7. Competing clubs - 0-5K

Given the atmosphere and what it looked like on the day, plenty of Geelong fans there!

Yeah it’s a certain amount of tickets to each club for their members , and most clubs have a limited amount of memberships that guarantee you gf tickets should the team make it .

I had one in 2017 , I think there was 15-20,000 of us , there are other tickets out there you can get , but they are usually high end ones that includes a meal, drinks etc , quite expensive, a couple of grand , a lot of supporters just bite the bullet and pay it if it’s the only way they get to go .

I’ve gone to nrl gfs when storm have made it and just brought a ticket through ticketek the week of the game , was a breeze .

That’s because Sydney based NRL fans hate the Storm, so don’t want to go 😉

That probably had a bit to do with it , but it doesn’t matter who is in the afl gf , the tickets are gone

booboo

Sucked down a rabbit hole watching "classic" GFs on Fox.

Amused at what the TMO would have called up nowadays ...

St George v Storm ...

The one the Cowboys won is one of the best sporting narratives I've seen.

Paekakboyz

I'm in some weird twilight zone shit. Watched a match last night and just clicked it was last fucking years game. For some reason I blanked on Penrith losing to the Storm in 2020. Fucking lol. I blame the kids... and a touch of old age.

In the good news column, I've got GF to watch tonight!

kiwiinmelb

Was thinking about all the different nrl grand finals I’ve been to ,
Storm v st George
Storm v broncos
Storm v manly ( twice )
Storm v parra
Storm v bulldogs
Warriors v manly

And the parramatta fans clearly made the most noise , they were so loud

They have a very big passionate blue collar supporter base very similar to a Collingwood or a Richmond in the afl .

Anyone going today should be in for a treat .

ACT Crusader

Sheesh Penrith is cleaning up. They have some sort of program going on our west.

mariner4life

On my way to the stadium now after a couple of warm up beers at darling harbour

bayimports

Could be way wrong, but can't help but feel the inclusion of Nathan Brown could harden Parra in the middle. They still need their halves to stand up obviously otherwise they will be easily beaten but at least selection wise I think this is good

ACT Crusader

@mariner4life enjoy it bro. The stadium and crowd look amazing on TV

ACT Crusader

Fisher-Harris lucky not to be penalised twice there - one late hit and one high

ACT Crusader

Good move by Panthers to get more numbers on the right side.

ACT Crusader

Papalii looks gassed

antipodean

This looks over already. Panthers making easy yards against the Eels.

NTA

Atmosphere looks awesome.

Penrith are men versus boys here. Parra's defensive alignment is shit, but no worse than any other NRL side really.

ACT Crusader

Unrelenting stuff here from the Panthers.

bayimports

Feels like the AFL final right now

ARHS

Awesome half by the Panthers. Great attack.

18-0 may as well be 30-0 with the way the Panthers are defending and the lack of inroads from the Eels attack.

antipodean

Eels lucky to only be behind by that much. They look tired and static in defence, far too predictable in attack. Penrith are the opposite.

Take a monumental half time speech to turn this around.

Yeah 21 tackles in opposition 20 to 0. That’s dominant.

Eels looked to finally make some inroads in last 2-3 mins but will need to score next to do anything. But it has been that one sided that it looks very unlikely

MajorStokes

Is this going as expected?

Complete domination.

African Monkey

@MajorRage Yes it certainly is.

They got that totally wrong. Should have been a penalty

No Quarter

Shoulder to the head with force. Red card all day long in union.

No Quarter

Comms are struggling to generate much excitement for this, just total domination so far.

Just another collision in loigue

No Quarter

I'm a Panthers man from way back, used to wear my Panthers shirt to primary school all the time. But I'm willing the Eels to do something to make a game of this.

Donsteppa

The Panthers have been brilliantly relentless, but the Eels also look like they'll make every basic mistake in the book too...

ACT Crusader

I think most people thought the Eels would provide a bit more than what they’ve shown, but in terms of what the Panthers can do in attack, definitely so.

ARHS

Sensational tackle by Dylan Edwards on Simonsson. Says a lot when a team is that clinical in all aspects.
