TSF Tipping 2022

nzzp

@higgins thanks fella, but I gave up on tipping years ago. I suck at it, and always wind up missing picks during the comps for some reason or other (life!). It makes a mediocre performance prop up the bottom of the table.

so thanks, but no thanks - I'll just support the Blues and note that it's nearly a year since we had live semi-pro or pro rugby live in Auckland.

Edit: not strictly true - ABs played in August. Apologies, I really missed Auckland playing in the NPC and am still bitter

KiwiPie

As Higgins says, get your tips in before the Waratahs game to be in from the start. Get your tips in after that and still take part.

@kiwipie Hey Kiwipie just confirming that you received my picks from yesterday?

Higgins

@mikey07 Yes, they are there. You can check for yourself by going to the Current Tips tab on this link https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/ you will see them on line 25 of the spreadsheet that will appear. If you want to check in future weeks be advised that the most recent entries are always at the bottom of the spreadsheet so you will have to scroll down to find them.

@higgins said in TSF Tipping 2022:

Relying on my memory the following regulars are still to get their first round tips in.

@broughie @kiwiwomble @delicatessen @duluth @ARHS @JK @Corkscrew @stag @mikey07 @laurence @buck @dogmeat @Cactus-Jack @neovarian @DK @sportboy @justin77 @gunner @Virgil @bayimports @Tim @plastered-peni

Remember tips must be in by 2145 NZ time tonight If you miss that then you can still tip but you won't get any default points for the first game.

No doubt there are some I have forgotten about from the above list so don't take that as a slight and you are more than welcome to enter into KPs Super Rugby Tipping Competition, many rate his one the world's best! Also newcomers, especially the likes of @NZbloke, or returnees from a sabatical, don't be shy get your tips in and have something extra riding on each and every game. You never know we might even get some long suffering Blues supporters putting their money where their mouths are so to speak, maybe the likes of @nzzp et al might be tempted?

Anyway here is the link to the tipping sheet for this week

  • Good Luck to everyone in this warm up to the vastly more important and prestigious NPC Tipping Contest that comes later this year

Well blimey I didn't even think about this did I. Not that it matters as I got all my tips in in the big show (npc) and still did horrifically.

How do we know if we're assigned to a team? I'd be keen to jump on one of the Hurricanes bandwagons if they're not full.

Higgins

@delicatessen At this stage both Hurricanes teams need tippers (Golds x 2 and Blacks x 1 - subject to PAJ fronting up). You just select whichever team you like when submitting your weekly entry sheet. If there are more than the required six then Kiwipie will draft you somewhere else but that is not applicable for the Canes teams at the moment. If that does happen to you checking the results (KP usually has them up sometime on Monday) will show your score and which team you are in. If you are late getting your tips in before the start of each round you get the default tip of Away 17+ for games you miss but that will not help you for last nights game!!!! If you miss the entire week you score five points less than the lowest scorer for that week.

Good Luck

@higgins Cheers mate, at this point I'm probably better to miss the whole week than tip on one game, can you whack me in there for Canes Black at the 5 points below the lowest scorer mark?

KiwiPie

OK this is the team allocation so far - achieved getting at least 5 into each team. Notable missing are @sportboy @Paj @Cactus-Jack @barbarian @Bones - welcome to newcomers @Machpants @Samurai-Jack plus John Nolan, William, Neale Davies - not sure who you are on here so feel free to identify yourself. Just need everyone to keep tipping and we'll have a great season.

Leading with maximum points before the Brumbies game are Higgins & Neale Davies.

Bones

@kiwipie ahh go on then, if canes black need a player I can try and help out.

Higgins

@delicatessen has also declared himself a starter for the Canes Black as per a couple of posts above now that PAJ appears to have vacated his spot. Canes Gold still look to have a vacancy!

KiwiPie

Everything is live after week 1 and the tipping form is ready for Week 2

Plastered Peni leads by 2 after getting 3 out of 4 category picks correct. Nearly everyone picked 5/5 results so your placing was dependent on how well you picked the margins. Wins for the SunJags, Barbarians, Canes Black and BOP Chiefs.

KiwiPie

Not sure if everyone knows the scoring system in place.

Pick result and margin correctly = 10 points.
Pick result and next door to margin = 7 points. (pick 9-16 and it is 17-24)
Pick result and nowhere near margin = 5 points. (pick 17+ and it is 1-8)
Pick 1-8 and it is 1-8 to the other team = 2 points.
NOTE: If a 17+ scoreline is actually 25+ then a 9-16 pick only scores 5 points.
A draw in a game means nobody scores any points.
The category picks (top scorer etc) are each worth 5 points.

Team scoring is the average of the top 5 scores for that team so it is good to have 6 in the team to be able to discard one score.
4 points for a win.
2 points for a draw.

Team bonus points.

  • Score 3 or more maximum scores (10 pointers) than your opposition.
  • Lose by less than 7 points.

@kiwipie good to know, thats why I didnt do well! 😉

Hooroo

@Duluth @KiwiPie

Can I resubmit tips given Chiefs game is cancelled? Will there be a new tipping form that eliminates this match?

Yes and yes - will post here when form updated.

Kiwiwomble

@kiwipie punished if ya forget...punished if ya early

Winger

I voted twice. If possible can I stick with my first selection. That is the Blues to win. Thanks

Bones

Yeah look with canes black back up to full strength without me, if my tips getting cancelled isn't a sign, I don't know what is.

Just call me joe

Higgins

@bones You are part of the full strength Hurricanes Black so your tips are required, especially after the good start your team had to be in the playoff positions. You need all six members to tip each week to make sure anyone having a stinker can have their score discarded from the five that count toward the match you are playing, this week it is the BoP Chiefs and you need to beat them to shove them into the plate division!

Quite a few others still to tip (myself included!) so come on all of you lot, there is just over two hours until kick off in the first game at 1905hrs NZ summer time.

Lucky you let me know as the default is to take the last selection and the Hurricanes to win!

@Stockcar86 was late to tip so your score of 29 had to be counted for Canes Black - you still need to tip to make up for the rest of your team slacking.

KiwiPie

The scores for this week are live here https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/ - you can also tip for next week but might pay to wait a day or 2 in case of cancellation.

Top scorer for the week was Canes4life with 60, just the final result wrong otherwise it would have been a maximum score of 70. Next best were Machpants, Hurrycanes and Richie with Richie the only tipper to pick 5/5 results. Machpants now leads overall 2 ahead of Plastered Peni with Plastered Peni, Langakali, Higgins and DK making up the top 5.

Not registering tips this week were @Samurai-Jack @justin77 & William. Dogmeat was late again, I don't think you're good enough at this to not tip the first game every week!

In the teams comp, the SunJags are top of the table with maximum points - Neale Davies the best of their team overall in 6th place. The Barbarians and BOP Chiefs also have 2 wins from 2 while both Blues are 0/2 along with South Island.

Sorry Mum will try and be a good boy!

Good excuse though....

I've been travelling (imagine that!!!) and have been well beveraged up. Football has been the least of my concerns. I only know two results so far this season and only heard them this morning.

Yeah sorry I'm gonna have to take a sabbatical. Not even going to be watching the Aussie games probably and not paying for 6 games a week and watching two, so 29 is a dream!

This looks like a spot in the Canes Black Team is vacant so time for someone to step up to fill the void, how are you placed @delicatessen? Canes Gold look to have just five on their roster as well so a spot there for one of the other Canes supporters like @foobaNZ @Dan54 @Cactus-Jack @NZbloke @canefan @BerhamporeNinja or one of the many others to step up and show their true colours

and here I was thinking this was going to be a virtual dart board to select my picks, nice to have the teams though 😉

dogmeat

@KiwiPie

Got my tips in a day early.

Just pointing out that one of the margin options is Rebels Force 😉

Good spot - have fixed it now. I often do these things at 5am so always good to let me know when I have stuffed up.

@kiwipie I forgot mate told myself this morning to do it oh well up submit it for the games tomorrow if you choose to accept it, if not no worries my stuff up.

Higgins

@mikey07 You can tip late but it means you get given the default Away 17+ for the games you miss, which in this case means you get the ten points for the Crusaders (who just happened to be the away team) game. Not so lucky for the Rebels who were the away side but that doesn't really matter as a fair few of the tips would have been for them and not many for the Drua. Kind of limits your selections in the categories part but that also gives you more scope as 100% picked Crusaders as top scorers expecting them to get about 150 points! Now you can tip your Canes for highest and hope they rattle up a decent number against the Highlanders.

Old news - you get nothing for games you don't tip for. Sorry. You do get the advantage of knowing the scores already for your category picks

Higgins

@kiwipie Sorry, I misinterpreted the Late Tips bit in the Help tab. I thought it referred to all games missed rather than missing making a selection for upcoming games.

KiwiPie

@higgins said in TSF Tipping 2022:

No you interpreted what it says correctly - I just need to update those rules to reflect the change.

KiwiPie

All the scores are updated

A high scoring round as nearly everyone went Crusaders, Moana and their game as top, low and biggest win and although after the game it looked unlikely, all those picks came in. Quite a few also went Blues v Chiefs as closest game for the maximum 20 category points. Nobody managed to pick 6/6 games, the ones who picked the Drua fell down on another game.

Best score for the weekend was Canes4life again with 69 along with ACT Crusader with Triple T, John Nolan and TR on 67. Machpants is leading by 1 at the top but only 4 points separate the top 5 which has Canes4life now up to 4th.

A draw between Barbarians and BOP Chiefs leaves them as the only 2 unbeaten teams.
