I didn't like any of that - 3 NZ kids cheering for England and one saying that stupid saying. Lucky the Magpies won otherwise I'd be extra grumpy right now.

Take that to the grumpy Nepia thread.

UP THE WAHS!

African Monkey

@mariner4life You'd get a gig on NRL 360 with this Tigers roasting haha (and yes, I'm well aware that it is true lol).

This is a worse post than your Cantab ABXV's.

@mariner4life I'll take that as a compliment hoops 😉

Play offs pretty much start tonight. As it stands, i think you need 13 wins to play in September. That means the top 4 are safe (the top 2 can run their B side out, lose every game, and still come top 4).

Assuming Penrith beat the Titans, and with Brisbane's 2 points for the bye, they will finish first and 2nd.
Penrith then play Parra, which again you assume they win, and NQ in the last round
Brisbane finish off with the desperate Canberra, and Melbourne. Neither game is easy
The Warriors have the softest finish, they don't have a game against anyone still in the hunt for finals. But even given that, finishing 2nd would take a miracle (basically 3 thumping wins, and Brisbane to get trashed twice)
Melbourne have the Dragons and the Titans, both should be wins that lock up top 4, hard to see them finishing in any other spot unless we shit the bed

Then it gets real interesting
Cronulla and the Cowboys play tonight. The Sharks aren't safe yet, and their finish is all games against teams around them on the ladder, they need to win one. If the Cowboys lose, then they absolutely must beat both the Dolphins and the Panthers, 1 won't be enough
Canberra have the shit bulldogs this weekend which should give them the needed 13th win. If they drop that then they are left trying to find it against Brisbane, or a possibly desperate Sharks (their dogshit points diff may mean they need 14 wins)
Newcastle have Souths this weekend. The loser will be relying on other results to stay in the 8. Newcastle need two wins from Souths, Cronulla, and the Dragons (their draw might sneak them in with 12 ins if everyone around them fucks up). Souths need 1 win out of Newcastle and the Roosters. You would think they would hate to be playing a "win or you're out" game against the Roosters on the last weekend
The only other teams with a shot are also playing this weekend, in the Roosters and the Eels. The Roosters need to win 3 from 3. The Eels need to win 2 from 2. The Roosters have the Eels (loser out) the Tigers, and then finish with Souths. The Eels only have Penrith next week.

The sheer number of games between the sides 5th to 11th mean it's still so open, but it does look like this weekend:
One of Easts and Parra are out, and we're down to 10 teams
If the Cowboys don't win tonight they are on life support at best
The loser of the Souths v Newcastle game will be very nervous.

Smudge

I went to a Warriors charity luncheon at Mt Smart yesterday. I haven't listened to Andrew Webster speak a whole lot - I'm a casual league fan at best - but geez, he's impressive. No wonder the team has bought into his approach - he's a great communicator. And even acknowledged where he's made mistakes and reflected on those.

ACT Crusader

@Smudge yeah he’s pretty impressive. One of the few leaguies that I’ve heard that doesn’t talk smack about rugby too.

mariner4life

and you can kiss the Cowboys goodbye

At home, season on the line, JT's 250th, and they serve up that?
The bench forwards Hess and Neame stunk, Townsend sucked, Hiku sucked. Just a shit performance, and that is that.
The Sharks on the other hand were very good, they've definitely come good. Rissoling Moylan for Trindall was a good move, and falling in to Tracey at the back has been good as well. Their bench forwards smoked the Cowboys.

bayimports

@mariner4life not over, but now not in their control. Cowboys stunk in the second half and their kicking game was off for the whole game. Trindall and Tracey have added a lot, however I do think the Cowboys defence was too passive in the second half and allowed far more metres than what should have been possible.

Sharks have improved and they really aimed up in defence but they look to have weaknesses still.

mariner4life

Mathematically they may be a chance but their last month has stunk and they are a huge chance to get rolled by the Dolphins let alone the Panthers in Penrith.

Wade Graham since his retirement announcement has been bloody good for the Sharks especially on the defensive side.

mariner4life

Carn the fucking warriors

Nepia

Awful start against a bogey team.

Nepia

Warriors are in it, Tohu scores the equaliser.

Nepia

DWZ in for one of his trademark airborne scores in the corner. 19 tries in 16 games.

Stag

Hook Montoya at half time, one of the worst defensive displays of the season for any team.

The wing is just part of defensive setup. But he needs to stand a metre closer to sideline.

Gunner

I’m struggling to understand how we are behind at half time.

Fuck our d has been poor down Montoyas wing.

We look dangerous when we spread it, but we seem reluctant to do so and instead we are sleep walking.

Gunner

Montoya needs to be pulled.

Given up 3 tries down his wing, then he gets bundled into touch hot on attack on tackle 1.

Very average

Marcelo just terrible tonight

Gunner

Absolutely woeful.

Gunner

Despite Manly’s first 12 points being gifted to them by Warriors errors and poor defence, I still felt after 15-20 minutes the Warriors were going to walk away with this one.

But we were determined to keep them in it with mistakes and poor defensive reads at our own end.

Got the job done in the end, but we’ve gotta start being more ruthless or we’ll only being making up the numbers come the finals.

mariner4life

Fuck, that was stressful

Left edge fell to bits and even a spud like Saab scored a piss easy hatrick

But shit, we won the professionally at the end.

And turned the ball over twice by dropping it cold and then getting tackled out of bounds like a rookie.

Man the nerves were a little shot watching tonight. How many times did we just open the door for them. Turnovers, bad reads, sloppy ball control. But man we know how to score when we want to. Loved what we did up the middle during the good patches. Harris was huge (again).

Dallin is pretty unstoppable once he’s about 5m from the line because of his hops and body control.

mariner4life

@ACT-Crusader between the warriors game

And then the lions being in the danger zone of 5 goals up with 7 to go
Last night was not an easy watch...

This season has been really good from the Warriors probably close to if not their most consistant season. The reinstatement of a Reserve Grade has further added to this. They are also adding further teams in other feeder competions. Love what they are doing.

Thought Metcalf speed was quite dangerous on the left tonight and he had some good kicks too, but defensively outside him on that left side was carnage, Montoya especially had a shocker. Even with the ball he made mistakes.

Loved what the bench added, probably missed Barnett as well, Bunty will be straight back to bench next week.

To the letter of the league law CNK was ok, that taking out someones legs in the air was careless and we got lucky. I've seen us countless times on the wrong side of those decisions and am thankful for the team to have been lucky last night. I hope they change the rule on that for player welfare though.

For me that was one of DWZs best games, not just finishing, but breaking the line, hard running to inspire the rest fo the team, couldn't ask for more from his wing last night.

Realistically they have to change that rule over the off season now.

Glad we got the luck this time though.

ACT Crusader

@bayimports Metcalf must’ve read my post during the week 😎

He looked really dangerous in attack. Great speed and varied his depth too.

Liked what Walker brought off the bench too.

Knights very strong, looking forward to Roosters v Souths in last round to probably end one or the other’s season

ARHS

My Raiders finally finished a match stronger than the opposition. Will be a good fight with Broncos next week with top 8 on the line. The kiwi trio of Rapana Timoko and Tapine were in great form today.

African Monkey

@ARHS It's only the Bulldogs.

Roosters will come in for Souths who will fall out of the 8. Souths will also lose Latrell for the Roosters clash and their season is already on life support.

I'd want to avoid the Knights with the way they're currently playing.

Absolute grub. When his team is losing, he’s shown that he can’t handle it and has these brain explosion moments

mariner4life

Things sorted themselves out this weekend
Penrith and Brisbane will finish top 2
The Warriors will be Top 5 at worst, and should lock in top 4 against the Dragons this weekend.
The Storm and the Sharks are battling for fourth, and Canberra's points diff will see them finish outside the 4.
Newcastle are not safe yet, but they are flying, and still have the Dragons.
Souths are in trouble. One game left, it's against the Roosters, and it is looking like an elimination final. Given Latrell may miss, they will not start favourites.
The Cowboys and the Roosters just have to win out, but only one of those sides has any form.

Based on the last couple of weeks, you expect Newcastle and the Roosters to make it, while Souths and the Cowboys get early mad monday

bayimports

@mariner4life pretty much summed it up

Warriors also need to be careful, Dragons looked better in last two weeks than any game previous. Given our for and against is very similar to Melbourne and Cronulla, just need to keep winning. Home final would be great.

Souths in trouble, but I am going to say Latrell won't miss it, he went for a grub shot, pretty much missed and hit his back, I don't think they will make him miss a match for that.

Newcastle looking like a team you wouldn't want to run into heading to the finals, but I don't think they're at Brisbane, Penrith level. Those two teams are just at another level.

....and Parramatta although their season over they may just have the kid with the best name in the NRL next year, it appears Will Penisini has a younger brother Richard lol
