TSF Super Tipping 2023

Only 4 days until the first game so time to dust off your tipping expertise and enter the premier tipping competition in NZ. @Duluth will be making the Tipping page live on the Fern within the next few days but the tipping form for Round 1 is ready for your input right now.

If you cannot remember anything about last season, this was the leaderboard after a competitive 14 weeks. The team competition was won by the Barbarians beating Hurricanes Gold in the final.

It took me by surprise as well - I thought I was just posting a link! It looks like a couple of people were able to submit their tips through it as well.

Apologies @Higgins I've got too much else hapenning with work and everything else down here post-cyclone, so I won't be picking this year. Based on my last couple of years, that decision should help the team out

@Stockcar86 Think you were in the Hurricanes Black team so calling out the likes of defending individual champ @hydro11 along with stalwarts @hurrycanes @mikey07 @Cactus-Jack @Paj @Bones to tap on shoulders to rustle up six tippers to get a full team together
Ditto Hurricanes Gold as I think Plastered Peni is up in Samoa for his son's 21st but must be due back any day soon so up to guys like @machpants @Canes4life @Winger to do likewise for that team.
There are the likes of Taranaki boundary rider @Dan54 who might like to make his debut if he is still aligned to the Canes plus the likes of @MN5 @canes4eva @Paekakboyz @foobaNZ that might, or might not be, Hurricanes supporters and available and persuadable into donning the Canes colours. They probably need a couple of newcomers as I'm sure Upper Hutt's @Crucial would lover to relinquish his Canes Gold spot to take up a comfortable residence in the BoPChiefs outfit!!! Ditto I doubt we could persuade @Stargazer to turn out for anything with Hurricanes in it's name!

Not sure how my Barbarians are going numbers wise but think @Waynes-World might be contemplating retirement and have not heard from @victor (but I'm pretty sure it's his Mrs doing the tips for him) since Christmas. Anyway anyone wanting to join what is basically a Hurricanes following outfit without actually having to publicly declare yourself as one is more than welcome to join stalwarts like @higgins @rico1 (or is it Rico#1?) @langakali @TripleT (who is back from his Sydney sojourn if my spy's intel is correct).
Whatever happens with your tipping form it is great fun and you have both the teams component (five out of the six tippers in each team's score counts each week so a stink week for one guy can be discarded from the team score) and the individual side where is it about time someone knocked @hydro11 off his pedestal!

@Higgins Upper Hutt's @Crucial is about to cut ties even further with the Hurricanes area and reside full time in Central Otago.
I have been Chiefs for many years and only this comp keeps tying me back with the yellow wind merchants

Just made my picks for Hurricanes Gold, that first week of picking is tough, all games look pretty close to me.

I would be in, but am away for a couple of weeks to Aus after the first week, but maybe I could put in picks before I go.

@Higgins yeah pretty sure I've dipped out on the last season or two sorry Canes Black - I'm too unreliable to be able to click a link once a week and then do a few more ill advised clicks.

Nepia and I ditched the Canes during the Hammett disaster and copped endless shit for it.

My reasons weren't primarily Hammett or the organisation, that just tipped the scales.

I only supported the Canes because I was living in the area and my son was playing etc. Much more fun for your kids if they feel they are going to 'home' games.

I am Counties raised and have always supported them as my main team. In the early days of Super you may remember that CM was lumped with the Blues and in my mind, Auckland was more foe than friend. Besides, all my favourite players (including CMs Lomu) played for te Canes.
The subsequent union grouping changes of CM going to Chiefs, more CM players with Chiefs and my kid growing up and deciding that he would support the franchise in his pace of birth made it logical that the whole family went Chiefs.
Plus there was Hammett.

@Crucial All valid reasons Crucial, I never change support of team, but can understand that Canes were your team by default re residing/son etc. Besides my Dad (when alive) was always a Counties man, being from Waiuku, and where ever we lived he never changed.

The whole provincial/franchise question is much easier if your province is a 'franchise home'.
Provinces like CM, HB, Naki, NH etc find the whole thing far less black and white.

Then you get places like Kurow, who are technically Cantabs as far as region go but wouldn't be seen dead supporting anyone but Otago teams.

The Manukau part of CM has folk that identify far more with Auckland than 'Counties'

@Crucial I believe my Great grandfather and grandfather had a lot to do with setting up the Counties union (then South Auckland of course), when I read it in a newspaper clipping I explained to Mrs Dan why I was such a rugby maniac, in the blood. I do actually cheer for CM when it's against most teams, just for my Dad, as I know he would of been doing it if still alive!

31 people are in with quite a few regulars (including me) still to tip. Just need everyone to keep at it the whole season to make the teams comp work.

I not too sure how to join facebook group, I go in under Facebook name and not mine, but no worries, I can still do things here.
Have to say, first time I have tried SF tipping comp, and like the look of it, but one problem, I checked if I had put in my tips,I had, but thought bugger me I not sure they are what I want now lol. I would do that everytime I looked anyway so will never change tips.

@Dan54 You can change your tips right up until kick off time in the first game of the round if you like. Not always the wisest of things to do as remember the old saying when you accidentally put a wager of the wrong horse - "never change a wrong ticket as Murphy's Law is likely to happen"!

It also gives you the chance to fix things if you have accidentally tipped Rebels 17+ when you really meant the tip to be Crusaders 17+ for example

Just a roundup of where we are at the moment (2.00pm), keep checking back to this post as I will update it when I can. Good to see a number of newcomers, hopefully they will last the distance ie tip every week! Looks like the Official Selector will have to do a bit of mixing and matching in a couple of instances where there might be more than six tippers sticking their hand up to represent a team. Don't let that put you off though as KPs Tipping Contests are SIMPLY THE BEST
