Hey Dan - just FYI, we have the interweb here in Oz now too.

Chur

Well there's a suprise mate, when did that happen?
But when I holiday ,I usually not on the net!

If you DM me with your picks for the weeks you're away picking according to the tipping sheet we'll be good

Ok mate I will try it, can do next weeks before I go, and will PM my guess for the week after, thanks. I will have a look what to do. As a early excuse tipping 2 weeks ahead doesn't allow me to properly check the form of the teams!!!
Excuse No1

I will add I have joined only because I still reckon this the best forum on the net, and so I pretty sure I will be in it most weeks!!

Winger

@Crucial why did you stop supporting the Canes

@Crucial why did you stop supporting the Canes

Ask @Nepia 🙂

Nepia and I ditched the Canes during the Hammett disaster and copped endless shit for it.

My reasons weren't primarily Hammett or the organisation, that just tipped the scales.

I only supported the Canes because I was living in the area and my son was playing etc. Much more fun for your kids if they feel they are going to 'home' games.

I am Counties raised and have always supported them as my main team. In the early days of Super you may remember that CM was lumped with the Blues and in my mind, Auckland was more foe than friend. Besides, all my favourite players (including CMs Lomu) played for te Canes.
The subsequent union grouping changes of CM going to Chiefs, more CM players with Chiefs and my kid growing up and deciding that he would support the franchise in his pace of birth made it logical that the whole family went Chiefs.
Plus there was Hammett.

Dan54

@Crucial All valid reasons Crucial, I never change support of team, but can understand that Canes were your team by default re residing/son etc. Besides my Dad (when alive) was always a Counties man, being from Waiuku, and where ever we lived he never changed.

The whole provincial/franchise question is much easier if your province is a 'franchise home'.
Provinces like CM, HB, Naki, NH etc find the whole thing far less black and white.

Then you get places like Kurow, who are technically Cantabs as far as region go but wouldn't be seen dead supporting anyone but Otago teams.

The Manukau part of CM has folk that identify far more with Auckland than 'Counties'

Dan54

@Crucial I believe my Great grandfather and grandfather had a lot to do with setting up the Counties union (then South Auckland of course), when I read it in a newspaper clipping I explained to Mrs Dan why I was such a rugby maniac, in the blood. I do actually cheer for CM when it's against most teams, just for my Dad, as I know he would of been doing it if still alive!

My tips are in and I apologise in advance to my teammates.

Tim

Tips in. For Blues A, of course. A few tight calls this week.

KiwiPie

31 people are in with quite a few regulars (including me) still to tip. Just need everyone to keep at it the whole season to make the teams comp work.

Dan54

I not too sure how to join facebook group, I go in under Facebook name and not mine, but no worries, I can still do things here.
Have to say, first time I have tried SF tipping comp, and like the look of it, but one problem, I checked if I had put in my tips,I had, but thought bugger me I not sure they are what I want now lol. I would do that everytime I looked anyway so will never change tips.

Higgins

@Dan54 You can change your tips right up until kick off time in the first game of the round if you like. Not always the wisest of things to do as remember the old saying when you accidentally put a wager of the wrong horse - "never change a wrong ticket as Murphy's Law is likely to happen"!

You can check here to see if your tips have been received https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/ using the "Have I tipped?" tag or this one here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kxisdgGg3rHj5KY5vtQsi3iUxSbU21ebLhGaCidUhx8/edit#gid=1973723998 will probably work too. It also gives you the chance to fix things if you have accidentally tipped Rebels 17+ when you really meant the tip to be Crusaders 17+ for example

Higgins

Just a roundup of where we are at the moment (2.00pm), keep checking back to this post as I will update it when I can. Good to see a number of newcomers, hopefully they will last the distance ie tip every week! Looks like the Official Selector will have to do a bit of mixing and matching in a couple of instances where there might be more than six tippers sticking their hand up to represent a team. Don't let that put you off though as KPs Tipping Contests are SIMPLY THE BEST
Barbarians:
Tipped = Langakali, Rico#1, Triple T, Higgins
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other possibilities: Victor, Waynes World (last I heard he was thinking seriously of delaying his tipping retirement!)

BoP Chiefs
Tipped = Mikedogz, Crucial, Chimoaus, Donsteppa, Unite
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other possibilities: @KiwiPie, @Hooroo, @BayImports @Sportboy, @Bartman, @OleOleOle, @ARHS, @Trooa
Almost enough for a Development Squad when you all get your entries in!

Blues A
Tipped = J77, George, TR, Tim
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other probabilities: @JK, @Fiamacho, @Duluth – remember guys 6 tippers needed to get a full team so make the effort please!

Blues B
Tipped = DK, Broughie
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other probabilities: @Dogmeat, John Nolan (defending 3rd place), @Dice, @Farnthhayden @gunner. Generally the better performing Blues team so you have a duty to rustle up a 6 man team

Canes Black
Tipped = Cactus Jack, Hurrycanes, Mikey07, PAJ, Dan54, Antipodean, Delicatessen
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other possibilities: @Hydro11 (defending champ)
Injured/Unavailable: Stockcar86, Bones(?)
Well done on the responses so far, looks like a decision to be made by the selectors as to the final makeup of this team!

Canes Gold
Tipped = Machpants, Canes4Life, Mackerzz, Laurance, BorderJB, Winger,
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other possibilities: @Plastered Peni
Transferred to BoP Chiefs: Crucial

South Island
Tipped = ACT Crusader, Nevorian, Corkscrew
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other possibilities: @Smudge, @SouthernMann, @FakatavaAllBlack, @Chris, @ChrisB, @kiwiwomble, @Canerbry. Come on some of you guys pull finger to get a full 6 man roster.

Sunjags
Tipped = Joan & Mary, Richie
Still awaiting last year’s tippers/other possibilities: @OomPB, @GT12, @Neal Davies

Individual/Awaiting for the Draft = Dolamite, Kruse

I've put my first week tips in as "Individual" - to be drafted wherever.
But SunJags does sound familiar - so yeah, happy to rejoin SunJags.
Seems appropriate - a bunch of misfit ex-pats.

BartMan

@KiwiPie . I think I tipped, and posted saying available for any team, but can't find my post...? Lost in space, wrong thread...?

KiwiPie

The results are up for week 1 at https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/ and this will be the home all season, bookmark it now. The tipping form for Week 2 is live.

Mikedogz had the top score of 47, 2 ahead of Donsteppa, Tim, Hydro11, Hurrycanes & Higgins. Nobody picked 6/6 despite 9 tippers going for the Chiefs to win.

Everyone has been put into a team, priority is given to regular players going into their regular team. Look on the leader board to see which team you are in. 47 tippers and only the Blues B team is playing with 5 as I confidently expect @dogmeat to turn up for Week 2. If anyone else wants to join, tip for week 2 and you will start on 9 points (if you don't tip you get 5 less than the worst tipper).

Wins for BOP Chiefs, Blues A, Barbarians & SunJags.

chimoaus

Go the BOP Chiefs, thanks for all the work.

dogmeat

@KiwiPie Sorry been travelling and completely forgot about this. Barely noticed Super Rugby what with sport and weather etc

I'm not sure that I will be able to maintain an average of nine, but I will give it a go.

JK

Blues A has enough of a squad. No need for this old campaigner to be involved.

We usually lose a few tippers in the first couple of weeks, you would soon be a starter. Give it a go - see if you can beat @dogmeat

Nah. A wise man once said, if you don't miss the first week, you can't miss em all.

Nice one. And on a general point if you're the sort who is likely to forget, make your tips at the start of the week when the results come out - submit again close to the first game if you want to change and I'll use your latest tips.

Dan54

@KiwiPie Forget!!!!! Me?????

Geez you been around my house?Lol

BartMan

Goooo the mighty Blues B . Hooo rah!

KiwiPie

The site was down when I posted the results this morning so here is the summary from the weekend. https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping

Best of the weekend was Bartman with 49, one of only 2 (along with OleOleOle) to pick all 6 results. If you reached 40 you had a pretty good score. Tim bagged 42 to lead by 1 from Bartman and GT12. Low score for the weekend was TR with just 22.

Barbarians take over at the top by a point from the SunJags, the only teams with 2 wins from 2. South Island are propping up the table.

Your score next weekend matters - the top 32 scores go into the 1st Round of the TSF Cup.

KiwiPie

Everything is updated at https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/ and next week's tipping form is live.

The first weekend where anyone reached 50 points and it was Higgins, Triple T & Unite who had 50 each. Higgins now leads by 5 from Plastered Peni with Tim dropping back to 3rd, Triple T & Unite move into the top 10. Kruse & Rico#1 were the only tippers to get 5/6 with the Drua and Rebels wins catching most people out.

Barbarians won again to be the only team with 3/3, the SunJags in 2nd and still unbeaten. BoP Chiefs and Blues A make up the top 4 but only 2 points between 3rd and 7th.

The first round draw of the Cup is shown - if you were in the top 32 of scorers this past weekend, you're in the draw.

Finally, OleOleOle leads the table for picking results - 15/18 picked correctly so far.

KiwiPie

All information is up to date at https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/ and next week's tipping form is live.

Best week for scoring so far with 14 tippers picking all 6 results correctly and Machpants getting 5/6 with correct margin. Category points were important and these enabled Higgins and Winger to top score with 64 apiece with Antipodean on 62. Blues v Crusaders was the key game to pick correctly. Higgins now leads by 18 from Triple T with Hydro11 and GT12 level on 3rd, 2 points back. Moving into the top 10 were Bartman, Antipodean and Dolamite to replace Donsteppa, OleOleOle & Unite who crashed out. After a terrible start, Winger is up to 12th.

The draw for the 2nd Round of the Cup has been made, change the drop-down to First Round to see why you didn't make it. I won the 3 way replay to get into the 1st round which gave me the pleasure of being thrashed by Higgins.

The match of the season took place between Hurricanes Gold and Barbarians with the Canes inflicting the Baa-Baa's first defeat 54-53 with those totals the top 2 of the weekend. 4 scores over 50 for the Canes. With the BOP Chiefs defeating the SunJags (Kruse forgot to turn up), there are now just 4 points covering the top 6.
