Black Ferns 2025

That team v USA is essentially the first XV give or take a few of the tight-five - I’d like Chelsea Bremner to start instead of her sister. Alana could be an option off the bench but Chelsea is a specialist lock. Alana is a loose forward / lock. Visinia-Fakalelu is certainly someone to develop further but she’s got the size to match the English/French behemoth forwards. Probably doesn’t have the power down pat yet. Henwood had her moments. We’ve still got problems at hooker — especially at lineout time. The lineouts malfunctioned at various points during this pac-4. I wish Bunting had made it his special mission to develop the forwards in the past three years. We know we’ve got the backs to run any team into the ground; it’s just the right-five we need.

Risi Pouri-Lane is a massive upgrade on Joseph. As is Miller on Tukuafu (who is better to go to 6 or 8 off the bench) and Waaka on AdP. Massive upgrade.

Add Leti-Iiga and Brunt and it’s pretty much perfect.

Wallaroos have started very well. Playing the conditions better than the Black Ferns

Is this on telly or internetworkings?

Bones

Nevermind, got it!

KiwiMurph

Good tackling by both teams

KiwiMurph

Good crowd in.

Ref is a battler.

Bones

@KiwiMurph interesting call for off feet...if it was for the knees on the player (which was marginal), I can't recall the last time I saw it called.

KiwiMurph

Black Ferns only seem to have one playing style

Could bite them - both tonight and the world cup.

Bones

Twinkle toes, haven't seen that from Portia in a while.

KiwiMurph

Black Ferns restart work is awful

KiwiMurph

Good attack there and also good Wallaroos scramble

Bones

What's with having small backs carting it up in the middle of the park and lolloping forwards mangling it on the sideline?

KiwiMurph

Ref doesn't seem to understand the idea of keeping your feet

Haaaaa, that one did get a hearty wtf laugh. She was lying on her side, playing the ball and topped it off by wriggling forward.

Brilliant when you compare it to the Miller one earlier.

Bones

Reckon a kicking from hand competition between Demant and BB would be tight.

booboo

Just had to explain the Bring Back Buck Ruby sign.

Bones

Bloody good try.

I could watch a lot more Kelly Holmes, she's.... maturing nicely?

Donsteppa

A strong run and also minimal defence for that latest try.

I'd say almost a quarter of the team is decent numbers for defence.

booboo

We know that wasn't a fluke by Jorja.

KiwiMurph

Incredible by Jorja. What a try

Her lineout take earlier was impressive too.

KiwiMurph

Talk about a team try

Donsteppa

Flood gates well and truly opening in the second half.

booboo

And I thought the kick was a shit option.

On ya Ruby.

Bones

Now that was minimal defence.

Bones

Any chance Rieko could get some learning time with Jorja on how to use your feet close to the defence?

Donsteppa

Wallaroos dug deep in the last 10. Just before that I was wondering if the Black Ferns were going to break 50.

Final whistle goes at 37 - 12.

The Black Ferns unveil their 33-player squad for the 2025 tournament in England at 5.05pm NZT on Friday 25 July.

Tune in on YouTube from 5.05pm NZT on Friday 25 July, as the Black Ferns announce the squad set to defend their Rugby World Cup crown in England.

The Rugby World Cup will take place in between 22 August and 27 September 2025, with the Black Ferns drawn in Pool C alongside Ireland, Japan and Spain.

Bovidae

I think there is still a chance that a couple of these players could make the RWC squad. Particularly King and Vaipulu.
