McCullum's Speech at Lords

<p>In light of some of the stuff that was said on here re Lou Vincent - often by those who greatly admire Baz, this was interesting too -</p>

<p>"The insight that Lou was able to provide into the dark and sinister world of match-fixing was, I think, invaluable. It would have been very easy for Lou to say nothing - to refuse to co-operate - but instead he laid his soul bare at considerable personal cost."</p>

<p>I had a read of the speech this morning whilst having my morning dump.</p>

<p>It's terrific, covers a lot of bases, and makes some excellent points.</p>

<p>I almost feel sorry for him that he's been playing basically the same era as Richie - as despite his stats not being at the top of the heap, he's an absolute role model and there is so much about him that is to be admired. Truly a great New Zealander, and he's accomplishments and approach needn't be overshadowed by the achievements of others.</p>

<p>I was watching it on the phone last night and wife was complaining as it was annoying her and asked what it was. Ended up putting it up on the TV and she sat through the whole thing. </p>

<p>Most people can read faster than at the pace of a spoken conversation . . . but still, it's a lengthy dump/avoiding the wife and kids. </p>

<p>Think the difference would be Richie was a role model for 10 years, the role model years for Baz were more like 2. Its like the Taylor / Hesson issue & the 45 all out basically grew him up & made him into the bloke that is worth 2 hours of anyones time.</p>

<p>Not saying he's not a role model, but there's no need to try & big up him to being Richie or Ed Hillary. Let the guy be who he is. If anything thats a better role model, kids don't need guys who were golden from day one, better to show them a guy who had a wake up moment & switched as Baz did.</p>
