Runout chance - missed the throw!
England were bowled out in 32.5 overs. It was the shortest first innings in an Ashes Test in Australia since 1902.

Oz could very easily have a first inning lead at the end of the day at this rate although these two are batting at glacial pace compared to England so far.

Based on how the English are bowling they could be all out by the end of the day too. I can't remember a more interesting first day where a team got bowled out.
Was the right approach from Marnus and Smith though, get to Tea no more wickets down and take some shine off the ball. England really need early wickets in the final session
Not a bad appeal I reckon.
Starc will need to back up in the second innings. He's the best aus by some margin.
@No-Quarter Was pretty naive of England not to come out and try to just play Starc out. Without Hazelwood and Cummins they were vulnerable behind him. Give him his first five overs, take some shine off the ball and attack the others.
However, their bowlers are bowling well enough to get them back in the game.
You just wonder whether the extra work they'll have to put in might cost them when you get to the fifth test.
31/4 - maybe they won't have to work so hard!!!

Frankly, I'd prefer to watch a T20 series eh
It’s a nice change seeing the batters under the pump through quality bowling, rather than being under the pump because they keep slogging themselves out.
Starting to think extending myself to fourth and fifth day tickets at the Gabba may not have been a wise idea.
Khawaja is living a charmed life, surely there must be someone under the age of 35 somewhere in Sheffield Shield who could do no worse.
@Donsteppa Pretty thin record over the past couple of years. Not much beyond the double hundred vs SL.
Australia have only batted an over less, but have half the runs. They still have 4 wickets in hand but massive pressure on Carey now. Mitchell Starc will be pissed though. Is this his moment for a maiden test ton?
I'm back. Go England.
How many times have Australia cheated or moaned like buggery about something they would have done no question in the reverse circumstance?

Bugger, fell just 88 runs short
So 121 for 7 ...
Every time I come back there's another wicket.
Where are these teams ranked in Test Cricket?
And why are we really worried about how ...
... oh 8 down ...
...two awful team go against each other who play each other every second week?

Jesus, still 17 overs to go in the day, England could be all out twice!
Great post ...
9!

At this rate Australia will bat for more than an hour today.
Maybe even more two hours? Not much more, though!

Can nobody bat in Test matches any more?
A lot of soft dismissals.
Crowd got their money's worth!

Huh.
My favourite day watching v cricket in recent memory was the Sunday as Baz and his minions desperately held on to try and deny India an inevitable win.
There was no chance of winning.
It was desperately holding on for a draw. Hour upon hour.
It was ball after ball of not getting out.
Baz made three-hundy. And we didn't lose.
We get to here and 19 dudes lose their wickets in 360 mns?
Can not one batsman out of supposedly the two best teams in world cricket not bat for more that two hours?
Well that must have been an interesting days cricket. Looking forward to the highlights somewhat - well at least the second half.

There's no tension on day one compared to the back end of a second innings, so wickets entertains the crowd.
well i woke up and England were already all out, which was a pretty depressing start to the day, so at 10am, i'll take that as a first day's cricket. Just goes to show what a wicket with a bit in it can deliver and how hard it is to bat against top class fast bowling on it.
Archer, Wood, Carse and Atkinson were brilliant, and Stokes gets 5. Madness
Disgraceful cricket from both sides.
Yes, spicy wicket obviously but thr shot selections were appalling.
As a bowler I love this, but...
