The wheels fall off England's top order batting again.
Theee wickets inside the first 26 balls of the innings.
The same as Baz's team at the MCG in the CWC final

Don't understand why teams get the opposition 9 down, then revert to bowling half track rubbish in the name of trying to bounce out the tail. Neser the latest after taking four wickets.

No
Goes to show what I don’t know.
One over apparently. What a niggly pain in the arse for Oz.
@Donsteppa In this day and age there's no excuse for any test team not having almost perfect information on how they should bowl on every pitch and at every batsman.
I honestly can't comprehend commentators being able to say that teams have bowled too short etc thoughout an innings when they've got specialist video analysts etc. What do those guys do for their money? Surely they're also listening to what the commentators are saying (and they usually sound right)?

Boland eges the last one through gully for four.
Australia have the best script writers!
Quite the field setting too. Five slips and three in a leg side trap

Looked like Bethell might have dropped him?

Yep, at first glance I didn't think it had carried. Turns out that it did (at least on a CricInfo check)

Australia opening the batting with Scott Boland.
So much potential for weirdness...

Yup

Great reward for bowling so well, having to bat again to make up for his top score order shitting the bed.
Cricket is a funny game.
Crazy day, will be over half way through day three I reckon
It's either a two day Test. Or the dramatic MCG script writers have tons to Smith and Buschange in a big partnership together in mind.

And so, on day 1 of the Boxing Day test, Australia were put into bat and finished the day with a specialist bowler opening and 0 down...

- golden duck to end first innings, then opens batting for the second...
- Could Tongue get a hat-trick, with two of the wickets being the same batsman? Has that been done before?
- can he get some wickets in second innings, and claim a 10-wicket haul plus credit as opening batsman?
Conway and Latham proved there are still quite a few records and firsts out there still to be broken…..
The same batsman out twice in a hatrick has apparently happened once in first class cricket.
Just when this Ashes series wasn't enough of a farce, the MCG provides that pitch. Groundsman should be sacked.
Probably the only time Brookes batting approach was justified Get as many runs as you can before a ball with your name on it ends your innings.

He's disappointed this series but third behind Crawley ( ?!?! ) and Root in runs scored for England this series.

Yep, from a shot of it this morning, my first reaction was they'd forgotten to mow it.
Gus Atkinson has done his hamstring and won't bowl again in the match or the series. Opportunity for Australia to post a big score now.
Somewhat ironically, it's the sort of game where Bazball is the most likely of the 4th innings tactics to have a chance.
Carse gets another! Six down - I was thinking Carey and Smith are Australia's two most obdurate batsmen, but they 're quickly parted.
Bounce is all over the shop. Batting looks hard as fuck.
Head faced 50-odd balls and never looked comfortable.
Beautiful day at the G too. Glad I'm in the shade for the rest of the day
