T20 World Cup

Bones

Not sure we should really be allowed on the same field as Bumrah according to the comms.

frugby

The commentary is bad as it is - and then we have to put up with Simon Doull as the New Zealand representative.

Bones

@frugby yeah has Smithy buggered off?

frugby

@Bones said in T20 World Cup:

Guess so. Katey Martin too. Simon Doull just spends his whole time pissing all over us.

MajorStokes

I like Doull.

But I’m not sure why I’m watching. As it’s already over according to the comms.

No Quarter

Such a shame Allen didn't get going as Seifert is making it look easy

No Quarter

Very shit innings from Chapman

No Quarter

Chapman ahead of Mitchell is retarded

No Quarter

Well deserved for India, their batsmen in this format are formidable, held their nerve in front of their home fans

sparky

India on course for a big win. Congratulations to them and their fans!

MajorStokes

Why didn’t we bat first!!!! Scoreboard pressure in a final is immense!

Oh well, good run far better than expected

Gunner

Disappointing but nice to make another final.

Be nice to win one though.

W32

Was hoping enzed could finally do the deed. Choke on highest level. Right up there with SA

sparky

All over.

India won by 96 runs. Deserved 2026 T20 World champions

KiwiPie

OK I get trying to bowl in a cute way to try to pick up early wickets and replicate the semi - and we know that pace on is loved by the Indian batters. But that collection on slower balls and wides just meant that everything fell apart and it was game over very early on. Then having to chase 14 per over and facing Bumrah is bound to end in tears. India too good.

game_film

Scared money don’t make money. BCs over thought it.

Bones

So who else had Henry to bowl 4 wides in one over?

Donsteppa

A tough one, but I guess not unexpected in the circumstances. Bugger.

Lots of caffeine needed today....

Bones

All I'll say is thank goodness for Neesham, could have been a right hiding...

Simon Doull spends his whole time pissing over New Zealand as a country. I'm not even convinced he wants us to win half the time.

Give me Ian Smith championing us everyday of the week amongst that commentary box.

Don’t listen to a word that idiot says.
Climate change is a myth apparently….

Bones

I heard Danny too, but seemingly only lasted an over.

He let others have a go in the pie cart, got vital wickets and without his innings we wouldn’t have got within 100. Superb stuff. I’m glad they ignored my advice.

bayimports

Well that was a tough finish. The mix of red and black clay had the locals thinking it was more suited for pace, but Henry and Ferguson were our worst economically.
Would have loved to have seen us at least be competitive, but alas our turn to cop a hiding.
Some great individual performances over the course of the tournament and playing in India doesnt scare the current team..but perhaps finals do.

He went for 48 from TWO !! ouch.

Why did Philips only bowl one over ? ( whatever answer comes back is academic of course )

Not sure it's a choke when you just get blown off the park by a team that also thrashed you in the T20 series leading up to the tournament.

I didn't watch it but would be interested to know why McConchie was left out? I'm guessing we chose to bowl because they expected dew to be a factor.

The selectors knew that Neesham was due a bag of wickets.........

@MN5 Kind of emphasises the crapshoot nature of the game.

Who would've thought Neesh would be the man to do the damage with ball in hand? Unfortunately, we needed those wickets in the powerplay. By the time they came, the die was cast - even though India was pretty badly rocked by them.

Even though McConchie is no great shakes as a spinner, I was very surprised to see him not picked. Indians stacked with left handers and we didn't pick our offspinner. And then Phillips able to bowl one economical over - the Indians dominating with lefties Sharma and Ishan at the crease and he doesn't get another over? Maybe they just thought Samson would slaughter him?

At this level - only way to contain is to take early wickets - they did, we didn't.

Too good on the day.

I think if you play well below your best in the game that matters the most, then it is a choke. That's what makes the Aussies so great, they generally elevate their game to another level in the big games. While I didn't expect us to beat India as they are the better team, I didn't expect us to be so poor either. It was a choke imo.

Donsteppa

To me a choke would have been if we'd ended up in a match situation needing, say, 30 from 25, and bottled it from there.

As always I took the starters chance for us, but we neither went in as favourites, nor were we ever in a match winning situation that we bottled it from (sadly)

Cricket can be a brutal game when you're outclassed. Scrapping and fighting goes so far, and sometimes gets across the line. But maybe not in front of that big a home crowd.

Yes - we had the players to win - selections and tactics sadly lacking.

I blame the the coach for this choke.

Hey, wait a minute.... 😁

KiwiPie

12-0 after 2 overs became 92-0 after 6 overs. At that point, all the NZ plans went out of the window and it was just damage limitation.

A trophy less valuable than the Beech Court Xmas backyard championship.

It's the least prestigious tournament although Black Caps at least get USD $1.6 million as runners up.

That probably causes less shit than an individual winning a car to be fair.

A few individuals would have bumped up their price tags for the next round of IPL Auctions.

The stocks for Seifert and Allen (who hasn't played an IPL game despite being picked up in the auction before) must have risen a bit for IPL and other comps you'd think.

Conversely here's hoping no one pays ridiculous money for Cam Green
