Was nice scrolling through this thread again!
Can see us getting pumped in both white ball series however. India have been shit at tests recently but they would be favs for the T20 WC next month and in ODIs Kohli is still scoring heavily

Hay is playing but Conway has the gloves. Strange.
We're batting after India won the toss.
Weird to see Henry Nicholls opening.
@Bovidae said in Black Caps tour of India:
Cricinfo might have jumped the gun as the TV graphic has Hay as the WK.
Smith giving India too much respect IMO. Talking like we are a bunch of chumps. Yes we have inexperienced players in this team but still plenty of quality.
Conway looking good so far. I’d have him alongside a power hitter opening in the T20 WC.
And across in the BBL Finn Allen and Mitch Marsh are batting on an absolute road. 69/0 off four. Allen 37 off 14.
Even though he has head explosions. Allen is box office and should be the first name written down whenever he is available.

It will be interesting to see who the BCs select as the openers. Will it be Conway/Allen, Conway/Seifert or Allen/Seifert. Personally I think they’ll go with Conway/Allen. Conway has proven himself in India and like you said, Allen is box office.
One of the openers needed go on those 2 wkts will stop the momentum probably 260/280 score at best now.
Probably will not be enough to defend.
It was closer than I expected in the end. I read that a late dropped catch by Mitchell was costly.

Adi Ashok also dropped one in the 48th over which also proved costly.
Very inexperienced bowling attack. Where was Duffy I thought he was in the squad?
Was always going to be a tough assignment for this team as India are stacked.
Great to see Kylo go so well though, fingers crossed his injuries are behind him and we can get an extended run of games now as he's world class

280 + to win. Kinda thinking that's enough for them.
I think you are right.
Slow pitch hard to find boundaries and knowing Indian wkts if the first innings is like that it will get lower and slower.
Mitch has been batting it up in ODI's for the past while now.
His scores since Oct have been the following..
131*
84
119
44
56*
78*
then going back through 2025..
43
18
76
63
49
17
10
57
10
81
2
38
976 runs @ 65.06
2 x 100's and 7 x 50's from 19 innings
Its a shame no one really plays alot of ODIs anymore
Assuming now Mitchell has moved to #1 in the ODI rankings
after game one Kohli moved to 1 and Mitch 2 but they are only separated by a single point, 785 vs 784.
That's an absolutely outstanding result with a young team. How fucking good is Mitchell these days, just incredible.
Mitchell has really impressed in that tricky number 5 role where you have to play the situation in ODIs. He's prepared to dig in when the top order has failed and either build a decent total when batting first or see it through to the end if batting second. He's built a great international career for someone starting it aged 28.

its a shame his test record has gone backwards. Hasnt been able to consistently score 100's but his ODI record is superb so far
Only Kohli has a higher average amongst full nations sides.

He's like a Kiwi David Hussey

Well in some ways but he's a fine test player too, poor old Hussey Jr never even got a shot despite an amazing FC record ( 14K runs @ 52 )

As with most analogies, it isn't perfect
The ship is generally being steadied by Mitchell and Young, but it has had at least one hairy moment between the wickets too.
