Black Caps tour of India - 2026

Was worried that if anyone got out in this partnership this might happen, hopefully we can still put some late runs on

canefan

Why waste a challenge on that? Hay was stone cold plumb

Gunner

That was a really shit 2 from 6 from Hay, and a terrible shot to get himself out.

Agree with what Doull said in the commentary that anything less than 340 is going to be tough to defend on this wicket.

Gunner

Now is a perfect time for Bracewell to show us his big hitting and for Foulkes to show why he’s got all rounder status.

Gunner

Dumb cricket from our middle/lower order

canefan

Bracewell not totally sucking right now

canefan

What a sick 6 by Clarke. Then he gets out with a poor shot

Gunner

Was about to praise Clarke for a great 6, but he becomes our 3rd to fall trying various versions of the scoop shot.

Gunner

Why are they not running?
Jamieson can bat!

canefan

Needs another boundary at least

canefan

Not the boundary I meant, but we'll take it. Brilliant salvage job by Young, Mitch and Phillips

Gunner

What a shit show of a last over was looking like… until the last 2 ball… 4 dots, 3 singles turned down.

337 after being 5/2, you grab with both hands, but I feel those last 7 overs were a let down after Mitch & Phillips’ great partnership.

Fuck, both set batters go within a few balls of each other. That’s happened a lot recently with the BC’s.
Could cost us 20-30 runs

Yeah sorry I had to pop out, seems I'm the anti-booboo.

Bones

A part time amateur would be embarrassed by that Hay.

Lucky escape

Anyone watching this? It could be something special…. I actually got up at 1am my time to put it on.

Bones

@Darren yep! India were going too well so I had to stop sorting the loft so we could get some more wickets.

Bones

Kohli and Harshit remonstrating with both umpires, lying that a ball was over head height. I thought that is extremely frowned upon in cricket? Or is India allowed to do it?

Bones

Guess it doesn't matter if kiwi bowlers are just gonna shit the bed.

Bones

Fucking abysmal. Surely you just need to get full on the wickets to Harshit?

Bones

Zac salvages a little bit of pride. No idea why a tailender is having a swing at something well down leg side though.

Bones

Never in doubt.

Bones

What a day for Phillips.

Wow. Hard to believe we just won our first one day series win in India? With that bowling lineup. And then Bracewell leaving the field unable to bowl.
What a crazy win.
And Mitchell….. dude is a straight beast at the moment.

Watching in Thailand, bloody awesome from our boys so proud.
A few errors but for an under strength team that has to rate up there with some of our best wins.
I suspect India will be shy of playing us any time soon as they must be sick of being our bitch by now.

Bones

Might have been a bit less heart in mouth if Hay had taken a regulation catch early on instead of the slightly harder leg side catch towards the end.

Virgil

Fair to say Mitchell likes batting against (especially in) India in ODI's

Bones

@Virgil considering today's venue is child's play for big scores according to sub continent commentators today, it's disappointing he's not the top 5. Must do better.

Virgil

Had a look, if he can score another 100 in his next ODI innings he will tie the record for quickest (least innings) to score 10 x ODI's 100s
The record is 55 held by SA's Quentin de Kock

He's south African, you don't need the Quentin bit.

Bovidae

A fantastic result on that pitch, and after the poor start.

Of the newbies, Lennox was very good in his two games - very economical. Spinners get found out quickly over there. Clarke also looks to be a handy option for the future.

Latham should probably go down to six when he comes back.

Phillips hits a massive 6 off an aggressive block.

It's all that bench pressing. Huge power.

Wonderful win against an Indian team with some very silly names. Pretty extraordinary stuff, by golly the BCs lift when they're in the sub continent.

Mitchell must have heard he still wasn't quite an automatic selection in the fern XI and got a century just to reinforce his case. Gosh he's ridiculously good at this level.

Hats off to Kohli for just cheekily notching up a 54th ODI century. Slightly different eras maybe but worth noting this is more than recent legends Lara, Dravid and Kallis got between them.

Does he really need to come back?
Henry Nicolls isn't the answer either. Why not Tim Robinson or Rhys Mariu

More on Mitch......

An extraordinary average of 58.47.

Unlike other ODI champs of the past this is not padded out by loads of not outs, eight in 54 innings ( by comparison Michael Bevan averaged 53.58 with 67 not outs in 196 innings )

Also a strike rate of 95.72. This is amazing given he quite often is in that awkward rebuild stage ( it's the Black Caps remember, collapses are always imminent ) he's getting his runs consistently at pretty much a run a ball.

In one sense its a damn shame he's 35 this year but then he could have started early, been fucked around and been in and out of the side and become a forgotten "what if" like so many others. It seems he's taken a few years to work out his game and is benefitting at the highest level given his FC stats don't particularly stand out.

Let's keep enjoying his contributions while he keeps making them.

Bones

Kyle Jamieson is a bit of a choker at passing in the final overs though

He was excellent in the first game but got tonked a bit in the other two.

I think we just need to be grateful he seems to be unbroken at the moment.

ARHS

Glad I stayed up late last night. What a performance by NZ. Daryl Mitchell wow. Glenn Phillips fantastic. Then the might of Lennox and Clarke to blunt India and bring us home. Isn't sport great entertainment!
