Black Caps v SA

Chris B.

mulder smacks it...

booboo

Veritable Who's That of NZ crucket

Chris B.

Nice - keep Esterhuizen quiet and then get him!

Chris B.

29/1 after 5.

That's well behind where they'd want to be!

Donsteppa

South Africa batting like they're chasing down 90 again.

No Quarter

Superb first over from Santner

Chris B.

Satnav gets Mulder and we're on top!

Chris B.

Pressure tells and de Zorzi de Parts.

Pretty much a Who's That of Seffrican cricket too.

booboo

Why are we pretending this is a full on International representative match?

I don't think many people are - you old curmudgeon!

It's a credible NZ team - probably smack the shit out of the Young Guns of the 90s.

KiwiMurph

Wonderful power from Linde.

Match might come down to how he goes

Chris B.

@KiwiMurph His partners have deserted him! 🙂

Chris B.

Four wickets in six balls - nice.

Chris B.

Time is ripe - give that bloody Baartman a couple that rattle his helmet! 🙂

Chris B.

And on cue @Bartman gets hit in the bollocks. Some would unkindly say - a wide target! 🙂

I resemble that implication.

But it counts as a full international T20?

So it's on the official record huh?

Chris B.

@booboo It's not a terrible NZ team.

You'd definitely pick Phillips, Mitch Jr and Henry in any best current NZ T20 team.

Seifert, Allen and Ravindra would make it at present, but probably none are deadset certainties in the longer term.

Bovidae

Kelly and Santner were beaten for pace when we batted, but pace off seemed to be the way to go when SA batted. Nice to see those catches stick.

I’m a bit late to the party, didn’t watch game 1.

Saw the second half of the innings.

Man did I get a shock when I saw T Latham’s name on the scoresheet. Why the fuck is he in the team? Reminds me of when we picked Mark Richardson in the ODI team.

Anywho… great to see we are back to fielding our 2nd or 3rd XI as soon as the World Cup is over 🙄

That's a good memory cos it only happened four times.

Fair to say he was more of a gun in the longest form of the game.

I get your point though, Latham, Conway and Jamieson should be resting up for England in June.

Chris B.

Third T20 is on.

We had SA 46/5, but they've come back somewhat to 102/7...wait make that 103/8.

Still five overs to go!

1kiwi

WTF Mokoena is the highest run scorer for SA. Poor bowling effort the last 3 or 4 overs.

Chris B.

@1kiwi Annoyingly, we had him caught behind in the last over, but none of the players realised.

Mark Richardson and I did though - so I suspect quite a few people watching telly wondered why there was no appeal.

Chris B.

..so they make 136/9 but could have been 126.

A bit annoying - those 10 runs might be the difference between a poor and a modest total.

KiwiMurph

Latham knows this is a T20?

Chris B.

They get going against Sipamla. 21 off his second over.

Chris B.

Coetzee is a real handful on this pitch.

They might as well bowl him out.

Chris B.

With home internationals coming back to Sky, Sumo has just delivered a possible valedictory speech to Mark Richardson.

Chris B.

Conway goes for 39 - 96/1 - barring disasters we should canter home.

Chris B.

Nice - we cruise home with plenty to spare.

Tommy Laham makes 63* off 55 in a situation that absolutely played to his strengths.

What ?????

No Quarter

Mature innings from both Conway and Latham to get us into a dominant position on what could have been a tricky run chase. Good to see us bounce back after the T20 final and initial big loss in this series. We still do have a lot of depth (well compared to the bad old days).

Donsteppa

I'll miss the free to air coverage for what it's done for growing the community game. Sumo's cricket commentary can ideally stay with TVNZ though...

Thanked him for all his (20+ years) work in cricket commentary, hoped we'd see him comentating again somewhere, etc, etc - went on for five minutes. MR's last commentary stint in this series - and since cricket is going back to Sky, Richardson probably isn't going with it.

He isn't everyone's cup of tea but I really like Rigor.

Easy to forget he was one of our best openers ever too which always lends weight to his views.

Chris B.

@MN5 I didn't mind him either. He didn't take it too seriously - was usually quite entertaining.

I'd imagine he'd be able to do some radio commentary if he wants.

We'll presumably see Ian Smith back on the telly. Not sure who else Sky will resurrect. They had a really good commentary team before effing Spark stuck their oar in. Scott Styris seemed to just disappear. Doull went to India.

Cyclops

I hope they get some new faces in. I like Wags and Katey Martin of the spark/tvnz crew. Rigor could be good, but had a tendency to play into his grumpy codgy role a bit too much. Shane Bond did a little bit and was fantastic when he did.

Don't really miss any of the old sky crew. Doull and Smithy the only ones I really remember and they were fine. They briefly had Mike Hesson (I think it was just a guest stint in a single series shortly after he stepped down as black caps coach) who was fantastic.

If he hasn't burned any bridges I suppose we might see Scotty back on the rugby in future....

He was actually very good. Probably not much of a chance coming back. But would also like to hear more from him.

I liked Rigor, could be quite amusing in his dry sort of way.
