Neat factoid: NZ played Egypt in the 2012 Olympics, ending in a 1-1 draw. Goal scorers: Chris Wood and Mo Salah.

Bovidae

Both teams searching for their first win at a WC.

Virgil

Great header from Surman

Kiwiwomble

"slice of heaven" playing after the goal is chefs kiss

Kiwiwomble

once again, even if they dont kick on, they rocked up showing they want to play so respect

Bovidae

Good to hear the boos for the hydration ad breaks.

bayimports

seriously even scoring against Egypt is unreal.. cmon boys

No Quarter

I don't understand why they don't stamp out the faking of injuries in soccer. They have crystal clear replays that show no chance of injury. It's so off-putting to watch.

No Quarter

That little gripe out the way, awesome start from our boys! Egypt under a lot of pressure now to score twice without conceding to get the W they desperately need against us. Love seeing us upsetting some of the big countries parties!

Virgil

The unbeaten streak since 1982 continues, 4 1/2 games undefeated...

No Quarter

First time we've ever had a lead at the break, comon lads!!

Kiwiwomble

@No-Quarter is it? i was wondering and just started checking

Kiwiwomble

egypt have come back out fizzing

allblacksfan2

This is exciting!!!!

Crazy Horse

I get the feeling we are just holding on Egypt will score if they get their shit together

Kiwiwomble

@Crazy-Horse yeah, they definately got the hair dryer in the break and have come out pressing high...holding on for 45 will be hard work....but theyre also more open on the break now

Kiwiwomble

ive often though, one of the biggest results to come out ot the All Whites playing in the WC is player might get more exposure and get picked up by bigger clubs

Kiwiwomble

damn it, he got a hand on it too

ACT Crusader

Pressure was building and we got caught with a man open in the box.

Kiwiwomble

so different to the iran game where we actually managed to get the ball through the middle and create oportunities

ACT Crusader

Come on. Too much complaining and they went on attack.

Kiwiwomble

1-2

shold have been a free kick but also get up and play

bayimports

yep hopefully Egypt try to shut up shop and we can sink another set piece with a limited reply in counter attack...big hope

ACT Crusader

I hate this game.

Kiwiwomble

ive seen two goal in injury time before

Kiwiwomble

thats embaressing....hes gone down in the box...beacuse the ball hit his head when he went up for a header

allblacksfan2

Disappointing we conceded that last goal, but the guys were strong in the first half.

Bovidae

A disappointing 2nd half. NZ won't be happy with the poor marking from those crosses. Defending 101.

KiwiPie

Poor defending for first goal and keeper should save it. Sarah's goal was excellent. Third goal sloppy defending. I reckon the Egyptian coach just reminded his team at half time that NZ players aren't top level players - gave us no time and space and we coughed it up.

No Quarter

I missed a lot of the 2nd half due to work, but agree @kiwipie I suspected they would come out and try to pressure us into mistakes. Huge effort though, must have really put the shits up their fans at half time 1-0 down.

MiketheSnow

The way Belgium is playing - or not in this case - I wouldn't give up hope just yet

MiketheSnow

Argentina have arguably the greatest player in the world - ever in some eyes - but fuck me they’re boring to watch

Lazy as fuck

Yeah, take Messi out and they are less than ordinary.
The 10 other guys hit the jackpot by being in the same team as him.

mariner4life

The Golden Boot is a ridiculous drag race. Messi already has 5, Haaland and Mbappe have 4. They've all played twice.

Messi is the best player i have seen, and it's not close.

Is NZ playing today

1pm kick off against Egypt. Win and we are pretty certain to qualify, draw and everything goes to the final day with nothing decided. Lose and we'll need to beat Belgium on the final day.

Looking at the table this morning, and I think a draw would give us a narrow path to qualifying, but would require Iran to get thumped (by at least 3 goals), and at least 6 other pool results (including some after our final match) to go our way.
