Very good players trying to do it on their own outside the gameplan

Yep, individually they are fine, as a team poor..

England should have won this

Based on what?

Itoje cost them 2 tries

Woulda coulda shoulda

2 neck rolls which nullified two try scoring opportunities

Just don’t think England have the cattle. Dan Cole in 2024. Henry Slade in 2024. Not got the dudes.

You can carry those guys and ask them to do a job so long as the coaching is good and the other 13 players on the pitch engage their brains.

They are! They're trying to figure out what to do to get some shape because their coaching is terrible.

If that's them engaging their brains, it doesn't say much about the English "public" school system.

W32

Worst performance of the game: Austin Healey.. Gahh

@W32 Nah, Maro Itoje.

Maybe shuffle Borthwick into a selector position, he's got that almost spot on. Then get some coaches, fuck any coaches. They can't be worse.

Scoreline flattered England in the end. Even though they went down to 14 men that was fairly comfortable for South Africa in the end.

Tordah

Saffers never looked like losing that, they are a very good team, dare I say the current best team in the world. England looked like they always tried to find new ways of fucking it up

Bones

Holy shit this is awkward between Monye and Lawes 🤣

@W32 Nah, Maro Itoje.

He'll get rated 8 in the English press

"Itoje stood alone, a gladiator in the arena, valiantly - and single-handedly - fighting the hordes of south africa's lions..." - Stephen Jones, tomorrow, in whatever shitty rag he writes for these days.

Actually watching the game.

SA played poorly. Not accurate and discipline let them down. England in with a real chance there

I think they are. This is a team of individuals trying their best to work together and doing a bloody good job - all in spite of the coaching. They were in the running to beat everyone this season despite being given no direction.

I thought England played well, especially in the second 40, certainly above my expectations..... was a little surprised they didn't take the 3 with 10mins to go....to bring it within striking distance.... score board pressure and all.

They might be clever enough to get into positions to score points and even win, but once in that position their decision making - collectively and individually - is just appalling.

I was being ironic about exceeding expectations about fucking up, but yeah, I don't think England are that far away from being a really good side.

Not sure what you are on about, did you see the Jamie George interview after the game? You seem to have lost control of your bandwagon.

Smuts

This England team reminds me of the boks under Coetzee.

Confused strategy, cowardly, dimwitted selection all compounded by a lack of joy. They really don’t seem to be having fun - relishing the chance to play in an England shirt in front of their countrymen. Perhaps all the back room departures is colouring my impression. But I doubt it.

They had the World Champs by the throat at the half - you woulda thought they’d have come out of the changerooms breathing fire. But they didn’t. In fact, every big moment it was the boks who showed more intensity and passion.

As the ref gilt edged the chances gifted by Bok inaccuracy, it was the boks who got fired up. England, almost disdainful of their desperate fans’ urging, were more interested in begging the ref for yet more help.

All of this was exemplified two minutes from time. Needing two scores they turned the ball over in their 22 and kicked it out. @Dodge & @Catogrande please tell your wives that there are bunch of internet strangers who say that you were well within your rights to throw your teacups through the tv.

Something is very rotten in the State of Borthwick.

Catogrande

I don't get all the hate on here for Itoje. he is a very good player and has been consistently for a number of years. Yeah he had a shit game today but that alone does not make him a shit player.

Anyway, back to the game.. There just seems to be a lack of structure to England's game. Have these guys actually met each other before? It doesn't seem that way.

Someone else on here said that the scoreline flattered England and I would agree. If you take Smith out of the equation we would have been embarrassed on the scoreboard. All the good stuff we did in attack, pretty much, was down to his more off the cuff play. Everything else we were doing was just the same thing with no real variation. The mouthy little twat Healey called it - just one off runners hitting it up with no pop passes or distribution options, meaning that the Bok defence could just gang tackle and the jackal.

As for the substitutions and yeah, we don't have access to all the player data but, we again substitute Martin when he was by far our best 2nd row on the day. Has it been pre-decided that Itoje is an 80 minute man and Martin is only a 65 minute man? It seems so. Underhill was our best forward and got hooked off first and he didn't look off the pace at all at that time..

This is really taking me back to the bad old days of Andy Robinson's reign except that Borthwick has some decent cattle.

Well done to all the Saffer posters. The better team won. Enjoy the victory.

Catogrande

@Smuts

Thanks Slim Jannie and well done to your guys. You have some generational players currently. Too many for my liking!
