Agree 100%. Joe looked completely out of his depth at times and like a 'little' fighter, not someone 193cm!

He loves to get that in , its become a piss take in online boxing pages

Its funny , I came away from that fight thinking joe has a future in the sport , he may never be the number 1 , but not everyone can be number 1, but should still get some good pay days ,

I was concerned AJ would totally crush him , and that might be it for him , all over

26 is a very young heavyweight , while he lost , he still gave AJ some problems ,

landed some great body shots that he got little credit for , and frustrated AJ to a degree , he couldnt land his right hand at all , which was a first for him

Came a clear second but should be a better fighter for the experience

Pretty dull fight.

Joshua planted himself in the middle of the ring for most of it and pressed forward behind his jab. Joe spent most of his time circling.

In a fight where no-one landed much of significance, AJ was always going to be racking up the rounds.

Joe looked like someone who's primary plan was not to get knocked down. Never took the fight to Joshua and that was what he needed to do - especially after the start.

I only saw the brief highlights on the TV news last night, but good to see the real Tyson Fury has returned.

Reading a few pre-fight predictions, Teddy Atlas was on the money.

so I rewatched this arvo with a beer in hand. AJ won that fight. Not the landslide the judges implied but I was wrong.

Still think the ref ruined the contest and I think AJ was genuinely scared of JP. The ref clearly stepped in before JP could get his inside game going. in some cases before there was even a clinch.

But AJ did what he had to do and there's nothing wrong with that. I still like him as a fighter and as a champion but I think Wilder is going to knock him out. That'll be a shame because he's a classless fluffybunny that wants to kill someone eventually in the ring. He said this and meant it.

So can someone explain how the boxing rankings for the 4 different belts work?

I don't understand how AJ isn't on the WBC/WBO lists at all and JP isn't on any but WBO.

Povetkin and Whyte seem to be ranked highly on all 4, is there any logic to this or is it just boxing politics?

If you are a promoter , you put money in the boot of your car , walk into an office, hand over the money.

Your fighter then moves up the rankings.

Yeah took us two rounds and we switched to the alternative commentary which was a kiwi guy who sounded like he had a mouthguard in. Called it pretty well though

I think you are right. As much as I am not a fan of Wilder, if he fights AJ in his usual 'style' then AJ wont know whats hit him.

He's right though. Parker needed to use the double jab. But I was right too, many months ago anyway. Barry does not have the strong enough personality nor the respect of boxer for Joe to trust the game plan.

Or Barry hasn't done enough training with Joe to make that double jab stick as his go-to strategy for this fight. You know your boxer will be dealing with fatigue, nerves, getting hit etc - so surely you look to lock that stuff in at a muscle memory level?? If Joe had to think about it, the boat has already sailed imo.

ps hope that Wilder knocks out AJ and Parker gets a rematch but wins due to a superior chin

No excuses on how I initially saw the fight but I was extremely hungover when I watched the fight live after a really good round of golf at $10 a hole.

Possibly but compared with MMA do you have to worry as much whether the result or effort can be called into question? Ever since I have been watching boxing a lot of results have been dubious from Olympic to pro. We all know Norton kicked Alis ass in that one fight but it went Alis way. Just one to come to mind. In the US I see MMA on the tele all the time. Hardly a sniff of boxing. And which title are they fighting for? WBA, IBF and I think there are another 2 organizations. WTF.

I do remember during the Takam fight , he was yelling at joe between rounds saying , do not go back to the ropes , and joe would go straight back there .

Norton gave Ali heaps of trouble yet Foreman disposed of him pretty easily and we all know what happened when Ali faced Georgie Boy.....

This isn't like when Cameron was beaten by Tua and his career was effectively over. This was not a soul crushing defeat. It was a defeat that he can build on because he's only 26, a one time Champion that still has something to offer. Lightening hands and a top class chin. If he can just get a trainer that can rebuild his offence so that he has options when shit goes south he can make another title run for sure.

Not sure if there are many MMA fans on this thread, but the AJ v Wilder match up & hype up reminds me of the recent Stiope Miocic v Francis Ngannou fight.

I think the boxing version will go the same way, with AJ in the Miocic role.

Maybe he'd have gone harder if Joe had shown more aggression or rocked him earlier. Joshua is a talented dude, no doubt, but his ring craft isn't quite as exciting as he looks.

There is only one current boxer i look at and think , how do you beat this bloke ? with a gun perhaps , and that is triple g at middleweight.,

Joshua deserves his top ranking , I don’t see that same level as invincibility I see in golovkin though , not yet anyway .

Both fighters with the one and only loss, and to Joshua. Whyte currently slight fav in early betting markets,

Apparently they were in negotiation with Jennings ,

Likewise Whyte with Ortiz ,

But both were having difficulties coming to final agreements , Hearn and Higgins got talking , and made this happen instead , they say it wasnt long term planning , but because they know each other well , they were able to get it happening quickly .
