A mate of mine is pretty close to JP and mentioned this as most likely option a couple of weeks back. As a result I was quite surprised to see One News mention Jennings as next opponent.

Both fighters with the one and only loss, and to Joshua. Whyte currently slight fav in early betting markets,

Apparently they were in negotiation with Jennings ,

Likewise Whyte with Ortiz ,

But both were having difficulties coming to final agreements , Hearn and Higgins got talking , and made this happen instead , they say it wasnt long term planning , but because they know each other well , they were able to get it happening quickly .

Hoping Parker can sit this guy on his ass. Needs to throw some bombs to be a risky but compelling option for Joshua.

Parker should win comfortably but don't be suprised to see Whyte win by robbery as you usually see on Matchroom run shows.

@mn5 Based on Whyte being very over-rated, coming in overweight and the fact that Parker is better than him in every department. Whyte hasn't beaten anyone decent (won a robbery against a past it Chisora) and if he wasn't promoted by Eddie Hearn he'd be nowhere.

Wow looks like the ridiculous KD in round 2 has really affected Parker mentally.

Unless Parker flukes a knockout in the last couple of rounds, he is done and will never get another big fight again

If that's all it takes, Parker has no business being in these fights.

For a fighter with t-rex arms, fighting on the back foot is not the way.

@sammyc Yeah long way back for him after this. He'll either have to spend a year or 2 fighting low level journeymen or become a gatekeeper similar to Chisora/Takam.

Whyte going roughouse seemed to affect Parker.

@hydro11 Agreed, I thought he was better than this. Still not massive on Whyte personally but Parker has been extremely disappointing.

If Parker is to continue, he needs to get a completely new approach. When he is in a fight and he is down on points, I just don't see the hunger to do whatever it takes to win. Maybe he just doesn't have anything to give I don't know. He needs to realise THIS IS HIS CAREER.

Parker needed to do what he did in the 12th, in the 10th and he probably would have won.

Parker might have done enough to win anywhere else but not in the UK. He only has himself to blame.

Always lacked confidence in joe when the going gets tough , he has got through up to this fight, but he does give you the impression he would rather be somewhere else once he gets tired .

@kiwiinmelb I'm not trying to make excuses for him, but I wonder how much of an effect the headbutt in round 2 had on Parker? He was doing it easy until then.

Oh well that's Parker finished at the top for a little while. Whyte will get his rematch with AJ just as Eddie Hearn wanted and get smashed again. At this rate we might get AJ v Wilder in 2022.

@african-monkey It's hard to say, but Parker tends to lack game plan discipline the longer the fight goes on. He tends to lose focus after the first few rounds and wastes too many rounds doing nothing.

Back to fighting bums in manukau , which will be a struggle fgenerating ppv sales , kiwis were complaining about paying for this fight .

Unfortunately he just isn't quite at the elite level which is a hell of a shame.

@dice Barry needs to take some blame for that and yes, he did bugger all for large parts of the fight and bought Whyte back into it by allowing him to bully him with lots of grappling etc. Whyte was there to be countered a lot as he swung and missed like a drunk a lot, but Parker doesn't look like he's been taught how to.

I think what is most frustrating with Parker, we've seen the glimpses of power and genuine talent, but he stalled in terms of progress a while back, and that is fucking sad.

I think the Parker camp had become a bit complacent, probably thinking Joe could win fights on hand speed alone, but the higher the level Joe has gone, the less his hand speed has been much of a factor because of his disadvantage in reach and not having the upper hand in height. The fighters are just able to see his punches better and are able to negate his advances and flurries more easily.

And whilst every country wants their champion to be Champion, reality has to set in somewhere / sometime and accept that their best isn't good enough.

His power at 22 was good but not devastating. I thought it would come but it never has. He hit Whyte a hand full of times on the button and if he had real power hed have gotten the w.

We also saw well and truly that Parker is not strong enough to deal with a fighter that wants to body him. He got man handled.

I think you could be right mate. But then again, his crew is probably stupid enough to get another fight lined up quick smart!

*Barry took offence at one reporter's questioning of his ongoing role.

"I'm a little insulted you even ask that question. I can't get in the ring and throw the punches for Joe. I give every ounce of energy I have to this man. I love this man and my mission is to make him as good as he can possibly be and I'm totally dedicated to Joe."

I thought this was a bit weak from Barry. Compare that with what you get from many rugby coaches when they lose big matches - taking almost excessive responsibility, but definitely it's the whole team that lost - not just the players.

Think Barry would have been a lot better to have gone with the, "Look we'll review everything that we've done and what's happened in the fight and we're not going to leave any stones unturned in getting Joe to being the very best he can be - if that means bring other people with additional expertise, we'll do it".

Barry's car salesman demeanour doesn't help matters. I remember thinking this when he was all over Tua back in the day
