RWC: All Blacks v Canada (Pool B)

NTA

Didn't make 70.

Soft.

booboo

Ha! Kearns makes a funny.

He picked 70 points and reckoned Beaudie heard him and dropped it just to spite to him.

I’m not too concerned about the handling so much in this one. Our structures and support play and pace was very good

Bones

Some uuuuugleeee moments in that game from Barretts, but mostly great.

Poor Rieko, just not working for him.

SBW providing a headache, think he might have slipped ahead of Crotty to start, but Crotty will be great coming off the bench. Or vice versa. Goodhue will be lucky to see anything past the pools.

Tuipulotu dropsies, happy if he gets that out of the way now, otherwise nice.

Weber is a great halfback against the minnows. TJ is great off the bench.

Read needs a rest.

Not scoring the last 20 mins and making a million handling errors was joke but I didn’t mind because I had Canada +66.5. Wasn’t looking good at the 60min mark

Yeah it's not as though the entire team forgot how to handle overnight. Canada just didn't have enough possession to drop it too.

Might be more worried if our QF was in Oita, but it's not.

Interesting comments from Reado about Mr Hugh Middity.

@Bones Thought he stayed on for the entire 80?

Imagine the scoreline if we made half the number of drops. Could well have hit a century.

Billy Webb

Job done for the AB's. 5 in the bag.

But what a weird game to watch. NZ seemed to be trying to play at ultra-high speed. Maybe seeing if they could take something from the Japanese play-book that proved successful against Ireland?
But conditions definitely didn't look helpful. That's probably more unforced errors in one game than the AB's have made all season.

But you can't argue with a 63 point victory.

Moli played the full game. Ta’avao, Laulala and Tuungafasi played 1/3 of the game each. Ta’avao subbed at 26. Laulala at 52 and Tuungafasi played the rest. Think it was strategic as Tuungafasi replaced Laulala (17 for 18)

Chris

Has anyone forced their way into the top 23 if SA Selection for game one is the top 23 ?

Bones

@Billy-Webb a feature of the AB team the past couple of years has been poor handling. They've upped the tempo now though and a lot more are sticking, with probably the same amount being spilled.

Nope. Maybe Jordie on bench for bender. Webb for TJ, but TJ was great Vs SA so I don't think so

Bones

Can't see Weber being used past pool play.

I think the midfield trio will be horses for courses, even into knock outs. Maybe not

Totally agree

TJ sucked tonight, but there is no way we are replacing A Smith with Weber with 10mins to go in a RWC knockout game.

Weber perhaps?

Game changed when he came on great pass and runs great support lines would not have thought that was a chance to take TJs spot before the WC but Webber was very good.

It depends on if the coaches are going to read anything into the play from the match.

I doubt they will, but the backline seemed to run much better when TJP went off.

Japanese play-book

You realise that the "Japanese play-book" is basically the NZ rugby playbook right down to schoolboy level right? I was taught as a kid 40 years ago about 'Power, Possession, Pace'.

Even 16 and 20 years on all roads lead to an untested centre combo and the temptation of using an inexperienced halfback to close out the game...

If we are going to lose this RWC can we at least do it in an original way?

Chris

No Injuries a massive bonus tonight

Weber is an excellent halfback to play against teams outside of the powerhouse teams, but I'd be very nervous with him playing against SA, England, Ireland, Wales, France....maybe not Aus. His speed and anticipation are great, but I don't think he measures up to Smith or Perenara against the big teams.

KiwiMurph

Yeah Weber is arguably more useful to play against the minnows than Perenara. Weber's lightning fast service and decisiveness on attack opens everything up whereas Perenara plays minnows like he is playing trick shot pool.

Nope - did not know that.
If so, they do seem to do it better than you :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sheesh, one win over Ireland ....
