@kiwipie Has the league and cup double ever been done? I can feel a big one coming up from me after this last week's miserly 27 points!

Propsicle in NPC 2013 and Joan and Mary in NPC 2016 did the double. Nobody has ever retained the cup in NPC until you did it in 2019 and 2020.

@KiwiPie I couldn’t remember if I’d submitted my tips for this week, so if I had earlier please disregard the 1st one and take this latest one as my tips Thanks Again.

It's all over and Dice managed to hang on to win by a single point from Higgins and Winger, by 2 from Hydro11 and by 5 from Broughie. I can't remember a closer leaderboard at the end of a season. https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/

All the scores over 60 came in the final week of the season as many went big on Sunday nailing 30/30 and many also getting Manawatu as low scorers. Despite being in prime position to challenge at the end of Saturday, Sportboy somehow finished 9th!

Justin77 managed a full 7/7 but others were better on margins - both Higgins and Hydro11 getting 6 out of 6 for the games they picked correctly.

Northland win the title beating South Island by 5 points - a lot of it due to Northland's win over Waikato which they backed more than South Island did. But mainly it was due to Justin77's stellar score.

I'll do more of a wrap a bit later on.

broughie

@KiwiPie congrats to Dice and thanks Kiwipie.

taniwharugby

@KiwiPie awesome as always KP...I shoulda had more faith in my team!!

Kiwiwomble

And for those who took part in Superbru - obviously this competition has a much fairer scoring system!

Higgins

@KiwiPie You weren't looking so good with less than ten minutes to go though! Anyway congratulations on having the foresight to pick Ta$man, it got you home at the top of the field so an inspired pick from you. Thanks again for your efforts in running your tipping contests, it is so unique having the individual and team aspect to it.

mikedogz

I don't put much thought into Superbru and I do better :man_shrugging:

KiwiPie

@Higgins it was a hunch as was picking the Taniwha for the semi - them's the breaks

KiwiPie

@mikedogz In Superbru, it is very difficult to score for margins so getting results correct is crucial. In KP's tipping, getting the correct margin range is much more important

broughie

@KiwiPie Do you have a stat that shows who makes the most upward movement from week one to the finish. I am sure I would be top ten there.

Higgins

@KiwiPie I'd completely overlooked your Taniwha selection and you going that way opened the door for me to sneak through close to the end. Alas it was not to be.................

taniwharugby

oh I forgot all about that comp for the 2nd half of it I think...no surprises I came last then!

missing one week (and generally poor choices) was enough to be near the bottom

On which comp? Superbru or the real TSF Tipping?

broughie

@KiwiPie The real TSF tipping of course. What other comp is there?

KiwiPie

@broughie You were 34th after week 1 and never lower than 14th in any week after that. Higgins was 37th after week 1 and didn't reach the top 20 until week 4. In contrast Dice was 6th after week 1 and then no lower than 2nd for the rest of the weeks.

Higgins

@kiwipie KP, have you devised anything for this Super Season? It will be a bit difficult given there only appear to be four games each week (and only two in the first week which kicks off in just seven days time) so not sure if you can come up with a format to make it challenging given so few games are to be played each week.

taniwharugby

@Higgins didn't he run it for SRA last year? Seems so long ago...

Usual points diff, highest/lowest, tries per match or am I imagining things?

Could add in a bonus round where you get option to choose one game to get double points?

Obviously comes to KP having time to run it and how many punters join too.

Assume usual suspects doing the superbru one again?

Higgins

@kiwipie @taniwharugby I'm a starter in Superbru but they are running separate NZ and Aus contests.

As an aside SA look to be coming onside with super rugby (with eight team competing) again starting Feb 27 so that will give a decent number of games although I suspect there will be some gigantic scores in the the SA version making picks somewhat easy over there) so that will open up the options for KP if he is to go ahead.

Only possible problem in SA is that they are operating on a ten day cycle for matches rather than a weekly one so there might have to be a bot of jigging around like the days when the NPC teams used to play three games in a week and made the Tipping Week cut offs different.

As @taniwharugby says, I ran a comp for the 10 rounds of SR Aotearoa last year where I massaged your picks into a maximum of 80 points - 20 points with the usual scoring for the result of each game. 5 points for 8 categories - pick the points for all 4 teams and the number of tries for all 4 teams. I'm happy to do that again and ignore Aus and SA. And no team tipping comp unless we get enough interest to have 8 teams.

Last season the final top 10 was

Winger 426
Joan and Mary 416
Virgil 415
Kruse 414
Langakali 408
Higgins 403
Dogmeat 402
Paj 397
TR 395
Sportboy 393

I'll start a new thread for 2021 in the coming week.
