EPL 2020/2021

The first EPL season (92-93) has QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, Wimbledon, Coventry, Ipswich and Oldham who all seem a long way from it these days. And Blackburn who were soon to win it. Barnsley and Bradford had top flight spells in those first few years and Coventry weren't relegated until 2001 having been in the top division for over 30 years.

There aren't many teams left in the Championship who haven't been in the EPL. Luton, Bristol City, Preston and Peterborough from next season I reckon now that Blackpool are back in.

And they a had a great start to the season, may have been leading (or maybe second to runaway Man Utd) pre-xmas. George Burley manager. Came about top 4 I would guess, at time I don't think all top 4 qualified for champions league.

All from memory. First year living in London, remember that season quite well. Can't remember a single Ipswich player though ....

Edit. Looked it up. Was 2000/2001. They came 5th. Wiki tells me "pipped by Liverpool on the last day of the season for a place in the Champions League."

Getting my 99/00 and 00/01 seasons a little blurred.

Both had a similar them of a promoted club going great guns before fading.

Sunderland in 99/00
Ipswich in 00/01

Ispwich relegated the year after.

If this is your work, did you not have enough time to go back to Season 1? Meaning of course 1888-89!

Notts County were relegated the season before EPL started so we are not one of the 50 - but we are in the National League playoffs (just 3 teams to beat to gain promotion) at the start of our long journey back to the summit.

@kiwipie It is my work but I decided to limit it to meaningful seasons a.k.a since Fulham first put in an appearance

Have Nottingham Forest been in? They were big back in the days of the Cloughs

@dogmeat I don't know the answer myself but Bolton were in League 2 this season.

@bovidae Swindon were relegated to L2 last month. This will be their 4th stint at that level since the glory days of 93-94

I'm not sure if any EPL teams have fallen out of the league - Notts the closest to doing it. Technically Wimbledon became MK Dons and so didn't fall out of the league.

I reckon these clubs have reached League 2 after being in the EPL

@kiwipie that does get interesting, the legal entity become MK dons but the majority of the fan base moved to AFCW and reformed in the combined counties so well out of the league

As a complete digression my 7th Form took over a school assembly and among dishing out awards, ransoming a teacher and other things we sang the Womble song. I was wearing my mothers bridal gown.

Well it can't be Citeh. Liverpool dropped out for a couple of years. That leaves Yanited

Assuming the consecutive streak isn't current, Arsenal under Wenger had a long run in the top 4/6.

Southampton is one, the others aren't. Southampton were 6th in 2015/16.

Answer to Number 1 is Arsenal. 24 seasons from 1995/96, consecutive top 4 for 20 of those seasons. United got to 21 seasons from the first until Moyes. Chelsea's best is 19 until Mourinho Mark 2. Best current streak is City at 12, the last 11 all top 4. Spurs were at 11 until this season.

Wolves are one of the top 6 teams.

Edit: They finished 7th so not them.

Watford were 2nd once in the 1980s but not close since. And Reading were never that high I reckon.

The final 2 were in the first 3 seasons.
