I think this is a superb appointment.

Been really impressed with Nuno and Wolves. Made the team incredibly difficult to beat and extremely well structured. CAn't think of another manager who deserves a bump up to a bigger club. We shall see how it goes.

Kane to Man City looks to be a goer.

Harry Kane is set to complete his record-breaking transfer to Manchester City after the Sun revealed that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has finally agreed to sell his prized asset to a Premier League rival. The 27-year-old put in a transfer request at the end of last season after Spurs failed to win any silverware once again, but Levy only informed Kane of his decision to allow him to join an English club last week. Manchester City are said to be Kane's "preference" and are set to offer the England captain a contract worth £400,000 per week to join for a record £160 million transfer fee.

I think 160K is a good deal for Spurs. It will be tough losing him, but we are selling right at the top of the market for a 29 year old who will soon start to taper down. Now we have to spend it wisely

Cyclops

@canefan yeah on paper it's pretty hard to say he's worth that much.

But attracting replacements of that calibre will be almost impossible. Spurs will be a weaker side without him.

Bold prediction: Arsenal fans are going to celebrate st totteringham's day if this does go through.

I agree about the replacement issue, you don't easily replace the golden boot and assist leader. We will need to see how Nuno restructures the team, considering how many goals and assists Kane and Son got last year and our final placing, it is fair to say major strengthening of our leaky defence will take up some of the slack

Man City are trying to buy Grealish, Kane, and are being mentioned as the number one suitor for Lionel Messi. FFP is a farce

They've got Grealish. Not sure they'll get either of the others.

I think Kane will go abroad. Messi could well go to City given it's a free & Pep is there, but I think he's more likely to stay in Europe somewhere.

mofitzy_

@majorrage
I forgot that the UK is now floating somewhere in the mid-Atlantic.

Looking less and less like a power play by Barca but I still think he is still most likely to stay with Barca. Even rival clubs know the difference he makes to their league.

sparky

Great bit of business by the Villa Board. Grealish is a very good player, but never in a million years is he worth £100 million. It will fund the rebuilding of our squad for the next 3 or 4 years.

sparky

@mofitzy_ The speculation is that Messi will probably go to PSG.

Bovidae

English players are always overpriced.

I also expect Messi to stay at Barca.

mofitzy_

@sparky
My joke was about the UK not being in Europe.

That's how you do it. Now to spend the money wisely..... Spurs should be doing the same, if reports suggesting Citeh were willing to pay 150M for Kane (big if), I'd sell him now

sparky

Statement from Harry Kane. The England captain has had a bit of disaster with his PR this week:

African Monkey

@sparky Yup just a playmaker in the middle of the park is what we need now, and maybe another hoding midfielder.

No word from the club to dispel the rumours so I think it's fair to say he's decided to back down. For now....

canefan

Looks like Messi might be joining Neymar and Mbappe at PSG

sparky

Leceister won the Community Shield 1-0 in front of a mostly empty Wembley Stadium. The £100 million got some second half minutes for Man City in the Second Half.

Bovidae

Man City aren't stupid. Winning this is a curse. 😉

Kiwiwomble

and we're away and running, up the dons!

If Messi does end up at PSG who would have thought at the beginning of the year, that Messi and Ramos (the Barcelona and Real Madrid captains), would end up as teammates. It's a funny old world.

Cyclops

Feels weird to see Messi in another shirt. But I wonder if this might revitalise Barca a bit. Theye still got plenty of talent and maybe this will help them bring them through.

PSG fans on the other hand must be thinking this is the year. For them. Be interesting to see how they fit in their superstars.

Definitely agree about Barca. They must have a big crop of youngsters waiting for their chance

Bovidae

Cool video. Apparently Neymar has offered Messi the no.10 shirt.

Funny how Neymar left Barca so he could move out from Messi's shadow and be the man elsewhere. Now he finds out its pretty difficult, and he welcomes 'the man' to his new team. PSG are starting to look a bit like one of those Galacticos Real Madrid teams from a few years back

Bovidae

@canefan And Pochettino goes from a club whose owner never spent money to one where the owners can't spend enough.

Yeah. He must be like a pig in fat now. Different problems managing egos for a control freak high intensity coach like him. Now he just needs to sit back and let them run around a bit....

Does FFP not apply in France?

canefan

@dogmeat said in EPL 2021 / 2022:

FFP is a sham. It is my understanding that the regulations that caused Messi to have to leave Barca are specific to La Liga. In addition, if they hadn't let his contract run out he could have had his deal extended and not be constrained by those regulations. In the UK Chelsea football club owe Abramovich hundreds of millions of pounds in loans that will never be paid back. And Citeh should be banned from the UCL because they are clearly running a rort with their sponsorship deals. And yet they slipped out of having to face sanctions too

dogmeat

@canefan Meanwhile Fulham still can't do much in the transfer market because they overspent three years ago in attempt ensure survival in the PL.

It does seem that FFP rules are only enforced against the smaller clubs.

There was a really interesting episode of a Fulham podcast a few weeks back on FFP and club finances in general. The conclusion is Fulham pretty much have to go back up this season or we are deep in the doggy do

Guardiola coming out and saying Citeh can only afford Grealish and Kane? because they sell Academy players is such a crock.

I read somewhere that FFP was designed to rein in the big clubs, but in fact it just cemented their dominance because they can hide it better. Smaller clubs struggle to keep up, and may face a day of reckoning as Leeds did all those years ago.

This was a few seasons ago, and I am sure it is worse now

Chelsea beat Villareal on penalties to win the European Super Cup.

First game of the new EPL season has just finished. Brentford played their first top-flight fixture in 73 years and beat Arsenal 2-0.

I know I’ve gone on a bit before and almost no one will care….but

Tonight (sat uk time) Wimbledon will play its first “home” game in front of fans for 30years, after ground sharing with palace for a decade, then reforming at the bottom and playing on Sunday league grounds and then kingsmeadow (Kingston) for another 17 odd years…first game in Wimbledon in front of fans

It’s huge

First Saturday with fans at club football in England since early March 2020 and look who is back:

hmm who would've thought

Harry Kane's price just went up I reckon.
