Totally anachronistic to be sure. There seemed to be way more cafe's open up here than previously. A majority I would say.

My local had a sign up that you were asked to read aloud - "I am here for the express purpose of dining".

Once you read it you were asked if you would like a drink while you decided what you would like to eat - and to take as long as you liked deciding.

Nice.
The different behaviour around the 'Naki was notable.
Whangamomona - yeah, we're just doing hot chips - so buy some chips, have a beer. And upon going back to the bar for a 2nd, they hesitated, and I explained I was still "making my way through my meal".
Shining Peak Brewery - yeah, you need to have a meal, and not just "chips"... also - you must order food now, before I can get you a beer. But as a regular - chicken-bites will do. Also - offered to sneak a free takeaway can into my pocket upon leaving.
43 Brewing - got there just as kitchen closed, but again... a regular, so... we'll do you some hot chips, and that'll be enough.

Dan54

@Kruse You a regular at 43 Brewing in Stratford? Where I get all rugby watching beers from, one of the good places for a beer!

The Cup final is between Winger and Dolamite.

How were the points calculated for the semi?
I got more than my score for the week. I think

Yeah - I don't know how I started getting considered a regular.
I'd stop in every time I was passing through, in their old premises - travelling through to visit family in NP. Maybe 4 times in total, over a couple years?
Then nearly a year later, first time I get to visit the new location - and the bar manager recognises me, and greets me like a regular.
And for the last two summers or so - I've spent a heap of time up here... looking after the grandfather - and will typically drop in at 43 on the way back from a ride out to Whanga. They now automatically start a tab when I walk in.

Kudos to Winger for his honesty as he has just removed himself from the final of the Cup - I was linking to the wrong column on my spreadsheet and the final is actually between the other 2 players - Laurence and Langakali.

Lol yep, the first time in theold place me and brother-in-law had a few beers out in garden bar, our Mrs's came in lookingm and then next time I went in about a month later was told stright as soon as I stuck head in door if I headed out back wife would be sent other way. Love the place, almost like old style pubs where they remember you properly.

I think you’ve added some of my missing points to Winger’s….

Results are up at https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/

Dan54 with the season best's score of 70.5, almost perfect except for missing the margin for the Waratahs game and having Waratahs as top scorers rather than Brumbies. Langakali 62 and all 4 category picks correct. At the other end of the scale, a season low of 7.5 for Corkscrew which meant that all non-tippers scored just 2.5.

Higgins increased his lead to 31 with Bartman and Winger in joint 2nd. Donsteppa and Crucial move into the top 10.

Langakali wins the Cup, Laurence failed to show making it a 62-2.5 final score. The Sequel Cup starts next weekend, top 32 scores of this weekend are in.

The unluckiest team in the comp is Blues B, for the second week running they were equal top scorers but were playing against the other top scorer. BOP Chiefs, Canes Black, Barbarians look comfortable as the top 3 with Canes Gold and SunJags battling it out for the 4th spot.

KiwiPie

Results are in and form for next week is live. https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/

Best score for the weekend was Kruse with a new season high of 71 points. 20/20 for category picks, 4/4 picks for games and margin missed for Crusaders and Force wins. Rico#1 with 66 and Duluth 63 the next best. No huge change at the top and Higgins still leads by 31 overall with Winger and Hydro11 level in 2nd, Tim in 4th and Bartman dropping down to 5th.

Wins for BOP Chiefs and Barbarians mean they are almost certain for the play-offs, Canes Black and Gold clear in 3rd and 4th.

The Sequel Cup started with the top 32 from last week going into the draw. All ties decided except Winger and Triple T go into a replay.

chimoaus

@KiwiPie Looks like Barbarians also got a team record with 57? I look forward to the top of the table clash this weekend.

Yes tough clash for us - need some of the weak links in our team (me for example) to step up

Crucial

Is there a problem with the 'check my tips spreadsheet? It is only showing 4 games for me.

The columns are weird with the changes to the form (down to 4 games then back up to 6) but all the data is being recorded (if you go the right of the spreadsheet)

Results are up and next week's form is live

No real change at the top as the top 3 scored 58 or 59 - 59 was the top score achieved by Winger, DK, Machpants and Dan54. Plenty picked 6/6 for results yet BorderJB managed just 2/6 and the week's low of 21. Winger moves above Hydro11 into 2nd but still 30 points behind Higgins. 6 more weeks of tipping, the 5 weeks of the regular season plus the quarter-finals. 2 more weeks of round robin for teams to play and then there will be 2 leg semis and finals.

Barbarians beat BOP Chiefs in the top of the table clash meaning their playing records are the same but the Chiefs lead through grabbing more bonus points (an attacking bonus point is picking 3+ more margin picks than the opposition). Canes Gold beat Canes Black to move above them and wins for the SunJags and Blues B keep them in contention for a top 4 finish. The Cup quarter-finalists are decided.

The success rate for tipping is almost 90% for results and almost 50% for margins - 4 seasons ago only one tipper was better than 70% and only 2 tippers over 30% for margins. Definitely a much more predictable season.

KiwiPie

The results are in and next week's form is live. https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/

The gap at the top has been halved with Hydro11 top scorer of the week with 49 and Higgins only getting 31. The lead is now just 13 points with 5 weeks to go. Nobody managed 6/6 with the Drua and Waratahs wins unexpected. Next best scores were 46 for Rico#1 and Nevorian.

The Sequel Cup semis are between Tim & Chimoaus and Sportboy & Hydro11.

With one round left, the 4 into the play-offs are decided with BOP Chiefs & Barbarians left to battle it out for top spot and Canes Gold and Black for 3rd and 4th.

Everything is up to date at https://thesilverfern.com/tipping/

Best of the weekend was Dolamite with 50 points. Nobody picked the Reds to win and nobody picked Blues as low scorer or Chiefs v Reds as closest game so scoring was lower. Quite a few had the Canes as top scorer and largest victory for 10 category points.

Higgins extends his lead at the top to 18 with 4 weeks left to play. The top 4 remain in the same positions.

The round robin section is complete for the teams comp with BOP Chiefs the minor premiers. This was confirmed when Canes Black beat Barbarians to earn themselves a semi-final against the same team.

The final of the cup is between Tim and Sportboy - 2 legs over the next 2 weekends.

Despite the Barbarians being comfortably the leading team for points scored for they also have the leakiest defence as the team conceding the most points (although there is not much you can do about that). At least it makes for exciting fixtures!

I would like to apologise to my fellow Hurricanes Black teammates for being a suitcase and thank you for carrying me 😂

Winger

Hurricanes Gold were missing two players this week.

@Canes4life has been out for some time. Hopefully he can make it back for the next 3 or 4 weeks. Initially to make the semi's edit to win the first round of the semi and then to help in the 2nd round and maybe even the final

@Machpants was also missing. Unusual as he usually tips

Dan54

So do I take it those of us not in Semi teams get rest of season off?

KiwiPie

These are the play-off games this weekend - 2 legged affairs

The Barbarians are 4 time champions, the BOP Chiefs have never won the title but have been runners-up 4 times. Both Canes Black and Canes Gold have 2 titles each.

Winger

@Dan54 and there is still the individual competition that runs for the next 3 or 4 weeks

Winger

@KiwiPie what year did it start. I remember the canes won the first year it was held but can't remember winning it again.

And never realized its already into the finals (should read KPs posts more carefully). Over 2 rounds for the semi's and I assume 1 or 2 rounds for the finals.

Despite the fact that I can't get out of Canes Gold. Any good record they have is with my handicap.

@Winger It started in 2006 I remember doing the first round of tips from Melbourne where I was watching the Comm games
