I’ve always thought this as well. Traditionally the boks ran the ball. I think a series of terrible coaches after the 95 WC and political BS stuffed up the team and led to a circling of the wagons and loss of confidence that got into the psyche of SA rugby. Many have negative views on rassie, but he has given his life to this team and country, and has brought back the belief that has allowed our team to thrive. He has in spades what many other coaches lack - and it’s not professionalism, it’s unshakable belief in his players and what SA rugby should be.
I read the headline and thought Damien had decided that after destroying the All Blacks, there is nothing more to accomplish.

Thought I should post this. Griquas, non URC province winning the Currie Cup against the Lions at Ellispark. First time they done this since the days of Piet Visagie and Mannetjies Roux. The end whistle has gone when the TMO called a penalty for Griquas and they nail the penalty to win by 2. No stars in that team, just a young up and coming x Bolander Piet Bergh who coach them well.
Griquas and the Stormers have an player agreement. Most of this players will be useful in the URC.
Just had a look at the squads Rassie has been selecting this year.
He’s fielded 46 players thru 9 matches.
27 are local URC team players, and 19 are foreign based players.
Quite a few foreign players; but it seems to work well.
I’d say it allows flexibility in selections, both short, and long term.
The current set up in SA pro rugby looks good.
The 4 local URC teams give them a taste of top Euro rugby. Not just of other URC teams but also through the EC, the top French and English teams.
And a foreign based legion he can call on.

We will know more after the November internationals. Both teams will be eyeing that game.
France have as much firepower as the Boks. Boks stronger in the scrum, but I’d say France edge the lineout. Backrows are incredibly strong in both teams. France run off Dupont at 9, SA have SFM and Libbock pulling strings at 10. Both teams have good centre combos (Boks may edge this), but the back 3 match ups are insane.
When France get a roll on at home in front of a partisan French crowd, they play like the Boks did today.
So I don’t think luck will be the deciding factor when these two teams meet in November

The Boks should be #1 or #2 contenders at RWC but I'm actually more worried about the French than the Boks at the next RWC. I think the French could be formidable. The Boks still have some pressure points but should thank the ABs for giving them that extra shot of confidence.
And Argentina, they generally fade after the first 3-4 scrappy games. Maybe depth or conditioning.

Most Springboks will be available for their URC franchises tours in the NH this weekend. This will be good preparation for their tour in a few weeks time.
Willemse, Hooker, SMZ, Moodie, Pollard, Krappies, Bongi, vd Merwe, Boan, Koch, RG, Escom start their NH tour this weekend
This is a continuation from the Springboks v Argentina Twickenham thread.
Hadn’t realised we had been funning so much in this line of conversating.
This issue goes all the way back to the very first tour.
The 1899-1901 tour.
We had to go over there and sort the bad ass f’ing Boers out.
We thought we’d got the job done.
BUT NO.
There were no Maori on that tour; and we all know a bad ass Maori is guna kick a bad ass Boers butt any day. So, If the Maori had been there, that really would have been the end of it.
Then came the 1928 tour.
Still no Maori boys. No George Nepia.
Then the 1949 tour, no Johnny Smith.
Then the 1960 tour, no Waka Nathan.
And a host of others.
But that’s not really on the Boers tho; that’s shame, shame, shame on the Kiwis for putting up with that f’ing BS.
The mild mannered, humble, unassuming, overly polite Enzeders.
Then the 1970 and 1976 tours.
These tours were a little different.
For the first time Enzeders could actually see the absolutely BS refereeing that was being dished out to them.
Danie Craven [I was guna swear there, but I have some respect] started that gold watch crap.
That DH Louis Luyt [and I know a lot saffers even think Louis was a DH] was just carrying on one of the great Springbok rugby traditions.
Now I know all Saffers are devoutly religious, god faring folk.
So when you are whining about “rugby quotas” and the like, you have to think of it as like it’s your penance.
Penance for carrying on like DHs for a century or so.
And as for the nightmare Rassie rugby, well . . .
First of all, there would be no LIV/R360 rugby talk if it wasn’t for Rassie rugby.
And I do watch Rassie rugby, but never in real time.
Only on replay.
It’s an 80-minute game, but if Rassies involved you know it’s guna be stretched to more than a couple of hours.
When I fast-forward all Rassie’s BS, you can be all the way thru the game in 10 to 15 minutes.
Then go and find something useful to do, with all that time saved.
The worst thing tho, is when you’ve been watching on a bit of delay, and there is soooo much BS you catch up to the game in REAL TIME!
And you have to watch the last ten minutes of the game LIVE!
FUCK THAT.

Uhh .. you do realize that the ABs didn’t play in South Africa until …1928. The series was drawn. Then SA went to NZ and beat the ABs in their own back yard. Tori Reid was part of the team that was thrashed 17-6 by Phil Nels springboks.
That SA team was known in NZ as the best team to ever leave NZ.
