Black Caps v Pakistan

Saw the highlights, the size of the ground meant that Seifert and Allen were mishitting it for 6 - and when they connected, it was leaving the ground. The fact that no IPL players are playing makes it even more meaningless than usual. And the IPL now appears to be 2 months long and takes 74 matches to complete - how totally tedious.

Originally wasnt it meant for the IPL to slot into international breaks windows so no players would miss out playing for their national sides?
Not the case anymore not to mention the growing number if T20 leagues we have now (Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Oz etc etc..)

these games vs Pakistan just seem pointless. (other then making $$$)

Ideally the IPL gets so big and bloated it eats itself and cricket stops having to revolve around it

Does anyone REALLY care that much **at all **about T20 ?

It's an acquired taste. Like Moose Turd Pie

Administrators love them; they generate shedloads of cash.

But honestly, can you remember any? And 5 in a series is like 5 pieces of pie ... sounds awesome before you start, but soon overloads.

I watched a bit yesterday, but cannot get excited about it.

Five pieces of pie is a great analogy for T20. If it's generating the revenue needed to keep the game (i.e. test cricket) solvent, then I'm okay with that. And it does produce classics from time to time (I still remember McCullum's century at whatever Lancaster Park was called at the time vs the Aussies and a crazy finish leading to a win in a super over). But mostly its light entertainment; fine but quickly forgotten, and becomes tedious in large doses.

Not going to happen IPL now is the most powerful beast in Cricket it generates billions nothing in cricket can compete with it.
The danger being it will get more powerful and kill off other cricket one day cricket is in danger of eventually being discarded.
I would hate to see it but the power in cricket are talking about it to open up avenues for more 20/20 cricket.
20/20 is where the money is with out it Cricket in general will suffer.
I don't watch the IPL anymore it is a monster and I now find it boring.

It's not a compelling stay on the couch all day watch like test cricket. More like a check in check out on in the background sort of thing. Or check the 15 minute highlights after

it's popular as it's a short night out, few beers with your mates, see some big hits, etc. Which is fine, but doesn't keep me engaged long term.

MN5

It has encouraged guys to score more quickly at test level so there’s that. That’s a good thing in terms of far more results in that format.

Duluth

I feel the same about ODIs and T20s. ODIs have become just as formulaic and the results feel like they lack importance

I’d respectfully disagree with that. If anything T20s have made me appreciate ODIs considerably more as there is still room for more ebbs and flows in games.

But yeah, probably still a few forgettable series, not as much as T20 though !

The 92 World Cup was utterly captivating. The 2015 World Cup loads of fun too. The 2029 one just heartbreaking.

20/20 has never provide anything close to that

@MN5

There is no 'correct' answer.. its a preference. Personally T20's and ODIs are as interesting as each other right now. I'm sure there some people that love T20s and get bored by Tests

For me I thinks it's because the balance has shifted too far away from the bowlers. That removes a lot of tension.. easy 6's gets boring in 20 overs and 50

Yeah very much. The bowler with the ‘least shit’ run rate is lauded as doing well and I can’t stand mishits with modern bats in small grounds going for six. Back in the day hitters like Viv Richards, Beefy and our very own Lance Cairns had to fight so much more to earn the half dozens.

A six should still be a ‘sit up and take notice’ moment but they get monotonous when there are lots of them

@MN5 said in Black Caps v Pakistan:

I'll die on that hill with you.

The moment a few years agon against SA when a spinner induced a shit top edge at Hamilton and it sailed over the fielder on the boundary was super frustrating.

Golf reigned in club technology because the courses started playing too short. Cricket could consider something similar very easily

Cyclops

Chapman loves Pakistan. Shame he can't play like this against everyone else. He looks so good when he's batting well too.

nzzp

@Cyclops he looked world class tonight. Placement off the charts

I'm getting lagered up in the stands. Good night out, despite the shit result for the women

Gunner

I know it’s Eden Park with postage stamp boundaries, but our bowling is trash!

Too many freebie half volleys or half trackers

Gunner

I repeat, trash.

Pakistan have this wrapped up with 6 overs to go, run rate required down to a run a ball, 9 wickets in hand.

Cyclops

Pretty tough day for both the men and the women. Both would have probably felt like they had a total that was defendable at the break, but both were probably 50+ runs short.

MN5

Some ugly bowling figures there, only Neesh going for under 10.

Am absolute hiding

Thank the lord Jamieson won't play in the remainder of the T20 series. He should never have been picked to play International T20 matches in the first place. He is a Test Match & ODI bowler.

Are you talking about the player who has figure of 3/8 off 4 overs in his previous game.
Sure he had a shitter at Eden Park every bowler did, with short boundaries that create 6 and 4s from miss hits, hard on all bowlers at that ground.
I am not writing off Jamieson in 20/20s he moves the ball both ways has height so generates awkward bounce and can hit a decent length

Cyclops

220/6 off our 20. Weird innings, got totally bogged down through the 10-16 over mark. Not sure if that's good bowling, or Allen and Seifert playing well. Feels like we're either about 30 ahead of par or 30 behind.

I just want him to stay fit for the longest format.

Jamieson, O’Rourke and Henry ( can’t believe I’m saying this but his improvement has been immense ) at their best are as good as any pace trio in the game

He is injury prone as it is I just don't believe we should risk playing him in this hit and giggle garbage. Save him for the longer formats.

Yep totally agree it is an exciting trio if they stay fit they could win us a lot of games,
They have everything as a combo
Pace, bounce move the ball both ways.
Fingers crossed they all get on the park together consistently.

Nah don’t agree he learns a lot playing 20/20
good way to build up just 4 overs at a time,
Builds a strength base for that back.

Good win in the end, so I guess we were well ahead of par although I think some of that was scoreboard pressure.

No Quarter

Silly to give MOTM to Allen. It's a batsmen's game, multiple of our batsmen scored similar runs, the difference between the two sides is 4/20 from 4 overs. Those figures will win you most T20s and those early wickets ended Pakistan's chase before it started. Allen said in the interview he didn't deserve it.

That said, there are not many players as exciting as Allen to watch when he gets going like that.

Xpat1

Was this game stopped three overs in so the Pakistani Team could break a fast?
That's new!!

MN5

Jeepers is this series still going ?

Duluth

Another T20 starting now

Pakistan: Salman Ali Agha (c), Mohammad Haris (wk), Hasan Nawaz, Omair Bin Yousuf, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Abdul Samad, Jahandad Khan, Haris Rauf, Sufyan Moqim, Mohammad Ali

New Zealand: Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Mitch Hay (wk), Michael Bracewell (c), Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears, Will O'Rourke

No Quarter

Ball doing heaps but we haven't been accurate enough to capitalise

another piece of pie sir?

Sure, why not. I'm not enjoying it like the first one, but I'll gag it down like a <insert comparison here>

Canerbry

Sidefart hammers them, 97* off 38, chased 128 in 10 overs.

Pakistan have been shit.

Higgins

Not unexpectedly I can report it has been raining rather heavily in Napier for about the last half hour. Checks cricket schedule, ah yes Pakis v Black Caps scheduled for McLean Park on Saturday so that explains the rain.

An ODI will be more fun to watch than T20.

Not sure the results will be any different though

Disappointing to have to swap out watching Tim Seifert and Finn Allen for Nick Kelly and Will Young though. The T20 openers have been a real highlights package.
