I was hoping for a Patel 10fer but he needs the last 5 wickets now so a long shot.
Duffy really impressing this series. Maybe it's the rest of the attack being poor but he's worked really hard and been consistent even after bowling a pile of overs. I know he was already in the squad but probably deserves another start when the next test finally rolls around.

Another record for Duffy - beaten Hadlee's "most wickets in a calendar year across all formats". Hadlee had 79 from 23(!!) matches in 85, Duffy has 80 from 36 matches this year.

@African-Monkey could not agree more re: Taylor, he's my favourite ever Black Cap for that reason (well him and Boult). So many young players could learn a lot from the way he applied himself. A talented youngster that would get himself out through lapses in concentration more than the bowler getting him out, really putting in the hard yards to work on his concentration in test matches to fashion a world class record. It must have been so hard for him to completely put away that swipe shot for hours at a time when it's what he grew up playing!
He did the same in ODIs to a lesser degree, worked hard on building an innings and trying to carry his bat rather than blast the opposition away in the first 20 overs. Ended up our best ODI batsmen of all time as a result with 21 tons.
Taylor probably looked at Jesse Ryder as a case of what NOT to do.
Rossco had huge natural talent but Ryder had even more.
Taylors career was pretty amazing, NZs best ODI batsman of all time and probably third only to Crowe and KW at test level.
Taylor got shoulder-tapped by Destiny... Martin Crowe and chose to listen. Absolute role model for any young batter with talent but struggling with application.
That one bounced, I wonder how many times Patel has hit the batsmen on the helmet before. Umpire signaled one bouncer for the over lol

Yeah he won't play another test after this one, hopefully he can survive the last day.
Even so, draw looking bloody likely here. The Windies have no batting superstars, most of them aren't even test standard on paper but NZs fill in attack won't be good enough to knock them over.

Perfect finish to the series from Duffy, hitting the top of off stump to win the match. Man of the series for me, so far ahead of any other bowler. Loved Conway's return to form as well though.

Thought the pitch was still looking pretty benign yesterday afternoon, but did enough today - and we were good enough to take advantage.

Phillips wasn't hugely compelling in terms of batting and bowling, sort of went ok, absolutely dynamic fielding though, will be interesting what happens when Santner is fit. Bracewell will only get a look in if those two are both broken.

Yeah I have no issue with that Duffy has been a big contributor but I just wanted to keep Latham's name in the frame 3 centuries in a 3 test series is a big effort and not a common thing, a century 50 % of the time you bat in a series needs to be recognised.

Yeah I have no issue with that Duffy has been a big contributor but I just wanted to keep Latham's name in the frame 3 centuries in a 3 test series is a big effort and not a common thing, a century 50 % of the time you bat in a series needs to be recognised.
Totally fair, he had a huge series.
Conway had a poor first test but certainly made up for it in the next two. But those guys are already well established. Duffy might not have played at all if it weren't for all the injuries. If you bear that in mind and how he went he did amazingly.

He's a spinner, he's barely played. He could continue until he's 40

As much love I have for Vettori especially his ability with the bat (still the all time test run scorer at 8 ) you’d just have to include Patel as your spinner in an all time nz side. 10 wickets in an innings, won us tests with the ball time and time again. Averaging under 30.
He was just never given a regular chance to play, we insisted we needed another Vettori by always picking the likes of Santner.
Also ding bro we had a generational period with the beat fast bowling group meaning we didn’t really need spin (other than overseas)
Vettori was his generations Wags. Everyone loved him. Got absolutely everything out of himself as a player.
Interesting question, the thought of not picking him seems insane but Patel has been pretty sensational when he has actually played.
Six tests runs centuries, longevity and captaincy and bailing us out of the shit certainly helps Vettoris case but I can’t see him getting ten in an innings.
Dan the man was no Warnie, Murali or Kumble but still had a bloody good record overall. No disgrace being behind those guys as the best of his era in that ‘next tier’.
He’s still in my team with Patel an option as a squad member.

Hay for me is one of the best Gloveman I have seen he moves really well, gets in to catching positions easily.
The sort of WK you don't notice unless you are watching him intently just gets it done with ease.
It is harder to find good WK these days a lot of the young players coming through give it up or don't want to take it on, they see it as too much hard work which it is, it is a skill you have to keep working on.
His batting has real potential.

Yeah back in the day specialist keepers averaged 20 odd or in some cases even lower. I think Alec Stewart was one of the first to change that, Jack Russell was supposedly the better keeper but Stewart filled the role at test level really well and his batting spoke for itself.
Very little to go on but from what I’ve seen in his only test Hay was brilliant behind the stumps whereas I think @Virgil pointed put that Blundell dropped one yesterday.
Keepers don’t have tangible stats like batsmen and bowlers though so hard to gauge.
