Is there another cricketer who has had such a dramatic change? When we look back at Mitch, I regard him in the first half of his career as a decent ODI player, tidy with ball without being a wicket taker, handy with the bat but not always consistent. Certainly not good enough to play tests and take wickets. Since that Indian series he has done a huge turnaround. So much better in all forms, including the ability to take wickets in tests. Extraordinary

Something I learned today - Tim Southee has the second most T20 wickets (of anyone - and not that surprising). But, Ish Sodhi is third on the all-time list. Who knew!!!

And Ish has a flipper - he still texts Warnie videos of it, in case Warnie has cell phone coverage where he's gone.

I spent 3 weeks in SL last month. I was surprised that cricket isn't as big as I expected it to be - volleyball is apparently the national sport! Although our driver was mad keen on cricket and knew a few of the country's greats.

He was dismissive of their chances at the WC. Said they had chosen the wrong team because of politics and that even more than usual they reled on 2-3 to construct a win. If they fail the team has no chance

No - I played a bit of lower grade cricket for St Albans many many years ago.

I only asked as you mentioned Ish - who I think is hugely overlooked in NZ ckt and I know he is at OBC (my son is doing winter nets/pre season while
at university) - so I thought some club loyalty.

For good order - my boy is a leggie and has met Ish a few times - Ish was so good and patient. NZckt gets it right mostly with public persona.

England will be a tough opponent and given the nature how they play just all out, a massive win or loss could be on the cards. They haven’t been playing at this venue which does help.
For me Jofra and Overton the pick of their bowlers. But Rashid likely to have a field day on this deck.

Was watching (on Cricinfo) a bit of the Windies last night and I think they've probably got the tactics we need to employ (assuming we make the semis).

They were going hard and just kept going hard regardless that wickets fell. Against SA and India, I think we probably have to do that - just roll the dice on the day - because a mediocre score won't be enough.

Might be able to refine that if we play WI. A bit different vs England, because we obviously don't want to get thrashed.

If we make the finals we're going to need more from Seifert and Allen than we've got in the past several games.

SA are the form team but it's T20, there's really no such thing as a choke, every game is a bit of a crap shoot where one player coming off can win the whole game. Yeah fair enough if you put it like that but with Australia out of the running it's probably less of a WTF moment. Mind you the BCs have stumbled so many times in the past.

Better give NZ the same odds as Zimbabwe to be safe.

For a start the game against England is in Sri Lanka and the pitch might as well be on a different world, it plays significantly different.

@bayimports Actually, I wasn't disagreeing with you - just triggered my thought from last night that the Windies have probably got the right recipe for teams that are not favourites.

@Chris-B. Actually think we also had right mix when we were in Chennai. South Africa for me rightly favourites, their fielding alone is a level above the remaining teams.

Probably for me that’s the key difference. Batting and bowling any of the remaining teams on their day could ice it.

Flying back to Sydney later so I’m going to join the rest of you not watching in local hours …sigh

Be a shock for sure., yet we have been in 2 ODI WC finals, all but won 2019s edition.
Made the final of the last Champions Trophy and won the first Test Championship, winning that final

While I don’t think T20 is our best format still feels slightly unfair to write us off as no chance to win anything

59 off five on that surface was a tough ask. Phillips got hit. T20 is this: two sixes clear fielders on the rope - slightly underhit and NZ win. But that's frustrating to lose from there.

Pretty disappointing.

We let them off the hook twice - after 14 overs we were 123/3 and only managed 36/4 in our final six overs. A better finish would have set 180+.

Then the last three overs were obviously a disaster.

Was only watching on Cricinfo, but I did wonder whether they would/should go back to an over of pace in the 16th or 17th over - just to see what would happen and because I thought they'd have to bowl Henry or Ferg at some point, anyway. With the benefit of hindsight, I'm sure they would - but Rachin did so well in the 16th...

Unfortunately, assuming we get through, we'll have to play SA - I'll be annoyed if England get WI. Not too much difference playing SA or India IMO.

Playing without Matt Henry won't help.

Modern T20. Sixes either go over the fielder or get caught on the boundary. Two in the last 5 overs I watched... Slightly under hit those and NZ win
