How many of those finals have we gone into either as favourites or at least close to even money? For me the worst one was 2019. But we were essentially underdogs for all the rest won't we?

The worst one?

England were expected to win that world cup in a canter.

It took a herculean effort by Stokes to draw the match and he had unbelievable luck doing it.

Then they won it on a boundary count back which was the first time they moved away from the previous method that would have seen NZ win it.

My memory is clearly not the best. The manner of defeat hurt the most. You have helped reinforce my point though, that we've never been finals favourites, more overachiever

We have played finals against Australia (x2), England (x1) and India (x1) since 2015.

They have vast resources in everything you can think of when it comes to
Cricket compared to NZ.

Its like Crystal Palace getting to the final of the champions league against Real Madrid and then being labelled chokers when they lose!

The only time we may have been faves was in the test world champ finals.

We had probably our best Test side at the time and the schedule meant our prep was better than India going into the final. Not sure if we were the bookies favourites though.

It was pretty tough conditions for most of the match but the way we got the win against India was very impressive.

The manner of defeat in 2019 did hurt. It took something special from stokes and even then had lots of luck to force the super over.

I suppose you make your own luck in games like that so fair play to him

Not sure we ever started as favourites. And haven't been anywhere near as inventive in inventing ways to lose.
