Match thread

I imagine niggles played a part, but I’d have had LSL on bench.

I think that Wright would move into 1st 5 and Kellaway comes on at fullback.

Schmidt has side they may still tweak the bench as the Donaldson injury happened late Thursday.

Kellaway can play 10 or someone like Paisami or Edmed could come onto the bench

ACT Crusader

Nic White can actually play 10 also.

Kruse

@pakman Watching that - I wouldn't mind him coaching the ABs.
And I loved him throwing shade on Rassie by omission. Repeatedly giving praise to Tony Brown, Felix Jones, and "the athletes he has at hand" - but... the unsaid was greater than the said.

PN

Unfortunately no story here. Just a genuine injury to a reserve prop requiring a like for like replacement.

Schmidt however, was the first to blink by dropping a forward for a reserve 10. (Rightly so, Madness to be reliant on a 35 y/o SR part timer)

NTA

Edmed to bench in place of CdC

To be fair the original squad was named within an hour of Donno going down.

@MiketheSnow Heard that before Mike. Pride comes before a fall, and the Boks are not always at their best when they are heavily favoured.

One red card could change a lot 😉

So Mike’s neutral take on the match somehow becomes, in your view, “Springbok arrogance”? That’s quite a leap.

Out of interest—what exactly was the moment that marked the All Blacks’ own “pride before a fall”?

😉

Some commentary and second guessing I'm not following on this thread...
So here's my uneducated view:
Boks favourites. Why? Because they're good, and at home, and at altitude - always an adjustment.
BUT: I believe this is is a vastly underrated Wallaby team. They have been well hardened by the Lions Tour. Being underdogs is going to play into their hands. They could (need to) front up to Bok aggression in the pack, and if they do, they have some electric players out wide. This will be a close one.

NTA

These are all very nice words I'm seeing.

Boks by 23.

@PN 2007. Thrashed the French 3 times in 12 months, then turned up without the necessary fire in that Quarter Final. It was a necessary lesson for them to learn that took them to back to back WCs and domination in between.

As for the Boks, they aren’t really more arrogant than any other team. My comment was more directed at some of their fans and media, who are reaching insufferable levels at the moment. (Note the word some before clambering up on your high horse).

Anyone talks about rugby online, it is swiftly hijacked by a Bok fan pointing out a perceived sleight against them or not giving them enough love or admiration 😂.

Were NZ fans arrogant during the golden years? Sure. Did people hurl bile at them? Yep. Bok fans have claimed the mantle now. If you don’t believe me, have a Quick Look on X or rugby forums and you’ll find the ones I refer to 😂

@PN I didn’t say the Boks were arrogant in my response to Mike. Mike was supremely confident that the Boks will thump the Wallabies in 3rd gear. My pride comes before a fall was aimed towards Mike.

Yet you spun it to be about the Boks 😂

See my previous post and add yourself to the list of anecdotal evidence 😂

Still am and only had one sip of my Guinness 😁

Cracking movement and continuity

MiketheSnow

Fantastic ball movement and support lines

Smuts

I’m missing this game for what I believe is a fair excuse: emergency call up to our 3rd grade side at [drumroll] … 10. Once I was assured the Club would provide hair gel couldn’t turn down the chance to hunt ruckrats and 1st5s from where they’d least expect it.

MiketheSnow

The levee can’t take these constant, consistent, brutal waves

JayCee

The Boks would pump the Lions.

jimmyb

Well if anyone thought the Boks were under cooked. They look very slick

@MiketheSnow you may have been right Mike 😂

Do the Wallabies have any defensive line speed at all? Looks like their feet are in concrete.

Joe hates line speed.

Joe is also repeatedly let down by players with no mental strength when it matters (Ireland and Australia)

MiketheSnow

Well finished Oz

But hometown O’Thief should have called pen against Oz at the breakdown

@MiketheSnow gave benefit of the doubt given how many times the Boks are offending at the breakdown.

Getting close to warning time for the Boks. Their breakdown accuracy has been quite poor.

Both sides loose and flying in off their feet

Ring rust with some pressure and SA are making mistakes

But only one team in it

Passive defense by Wobs killing them like the Lions series. Just why? Tupou is just a disinterested passenger.

W32

Joe Schmidt seems to be living on pre Farrell Ireland reputation.. hasn’t added much to any team he’s been involved with since then, and Ireland have been better under Farrell. A bit like Plumtree. Posers

sparky

Bit of an Aussie spanking so far.

Can the Wobs come back a bit in the second half?

Men against boys so far. SA look fantastic but Australia are making it very easy for them.
