Technically he is ok, but he has zero feel for the game

That may be right but at least he knows the crap time wasting tactics by the Boks that other refs don’t even say a thing.

W32

Come on angus grow a pair

sparky

The Springboks are the clearly the best side in the world in 2025.

antipodean

France are abjectly poor and some of their players have given up.

sparky

France have gone backwards from this time last year.

MiketheSnow

Huge decision from Gardner

If that try had been disallowed then we would be down to touch rugby

SA impressive

Young Hamiltons

France was shit in 2nd half.

Canes4life

Springboks will win the WC purely because they are blooding a young ten now before it’s too late.

@sparky said in France vs Springboks:

It was silly of them to agree to play SA without playing another test beforehand, and they did look a tad disjointed. Having said that SA are just on another level atm.

Young Hamiltons

The boks are well coached snd all of them know the hameplan.

WC is years away. England will be the favorites for the next WC by the end of next year

The French substitutes were below par. With 15 men on the field, SA should have won by +25 pr even more.

Bovidae

An impressive 2nd half by the Boks. France didn't know how to capitalise on a numerical advantage.

Does Gardner breath between lecturing the players?

It’s a thing with the two “top” Aussie refs, - him and Berry coach too much throughout the game. Berry doesn’t lecture like Gardner the school teacher, but he’s telling players far more than he should.

Bovidae

@antipodean said in France vs Springboks:

But a tucked arm isn't a red card. WR clarified this with the Beirne Decision.

You obviously didn't read the fine print when a player is wearing green. 😉

@Bovidae said in France vs Springboks:

wearing green

Good of the Frogs to try and help with getting the Boks back out of their white jerseys into green ones. (Think it was) Reinach looked like Shrek when he came off.

Smuts

@Bovidae knew we shouldn’t have worn white

Boks can just find a way, can't they? It is impressive. Against us, they pulled out their power scrum, against France, they just went to their driving maul. Prod and probe until an opposition's weakness is exposed. Respect.

Rassie and his staff are playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers.

OomPB

Last night test is up there with the Wellington one.

AE switching between forwards and backs is another Rassie master stroke . The Bulls fatties also were outstanding in the second half.

SFM again MOTM performance. He make things happen even from 15 and the main reason for the Springboks improvement since winning the WC.

Hard to get to sleep last night after this test.

Based off an Eddie Jones idea supposedly.

Depending on how long Ardie continues to play I think NZ need to get him or Sititi to cover 12 ( if its the latter pairing with Leicester Fainga’anuku then Tony Johnson will have kittens in the commentary box )

The possibilities are limitless. They could swap from scrum to scrum and lineout to lineout. Endless fun.

taniwharugby

Just seen the red card...not sure what to think about that.

Obviously no HIA is an absolute joke, but no mitigation with Ramos on his knees? Sure the Saffa used no arms, but I reckon if the 9 is near full height that would not have even attracted a penalty.

Are we in for another to be rescinded?

Tim

@taniwharugby What exactly happened that it wasn't only a 20 minute card? Was it ruled to be sufficiently dangerous or especially foul play, or does France not have 20 minute reds?

OomPB

@taniwharugby I still try to figure out what Lood was thinking? Ramos throw the ball to him and maybe he blinked his eyes at that moment.

taniwharugby

@Tim I think even with a 20 min red, there is still the option of a straight red.

Lood def looked to have lined him up, but given how low Ramos was, that is a huge amount of mitigation not considered.

@hikastags

Rassie is so much smarter than our guy.
Probably a better surfer too.

Tim

@taniwharugby From a replay it was clear that Gardiner ruled it as worthy of a full game red due to severity of the incident. Will be interesting to see how judiciary panel reviews it.

you do know Leicester was also tried in the forwards in Europe?
TBH , that isn't one of our glaring weaknesses that a part-timer with a serious hairdo can fix.

Tordah

No mitigation for the red card because tackle was always illegal with the tucked arm. Gardiner was very good IMO. Great game, well done Boks

In typical fashion the Scots were the first to come up with this stroke of genius.

They might struggle to beat the All Blacks but they can't be beat when it comes to innovation

I don’t see how it could’ve been anything else but a RC.

France got way too loose at times instead of being a bit more patient with the mountain of ball they had. Boks gave them plenty of opportunities too as they kicked a lot of ball away and I thought their defence was a little porous at times.

Their defence? Boks or the French?
What really impresses me about the Boks isn't their lack of mistakes but their ability to solve them by the next game. They do seem to have pressure points but it will take a clever coach and team to keep hitting them there.

MiketheSnow

Of all the international sides they’re the ones constantly and consistently evolving

Dodge

Wow. Boks were amazing. Fair play, I know nothing about rugby.

Definite red IMO, yes ramos dropped which would have mitigated if it was a normal tackle but with the arm tucked and leading with the shoulder Gardiner had no choice

Smuts

What makes this bok team so satisfying to support is that they see the Red as an opportunity to do something legendary.

You can trust that whatever hole they find themselves in, the Doc, his Irish drinking buddies, our pet Kiwi, Sticky & the conditioning guys are back there coming up with a strategy that gives us a chance. You guys are now getting an abject lesson in how frustrating it is to play in or support a team which not only can’t problem solve in realtime doesn’t even realize it ought to be trying to (which has been the default for Bok coaching teams since Mallet got the chop.)

Helps that we’ve also got players who have the skills, cunning and often just raw guts to take that chance.

Which was why it was so cool to see the Coaches besides themselves with joy on the sideline as the Boks slid the dagger in.

I’ve no doubt that it’s not a coincidence that our scrummies scored tries off edge snipes. Or that after about 20 minutes in the second half in which the Boks reverted to QF midrange bombs all of sudden Siya & Eben were on their feet yelling at their mates that the Bleus were fucked, couldn’t take the pace so it was time to turn up the heat.

Most of all, it was awesome that Sasha’s try came off a reverse of a set up that looked exactly like Eben’s try from the QF (and which the boks used in the first half which the French snuffed out by getting more forwards round the corner faster than the boks.)

As Carwyn James loved telling his players: It’s a thinking man’s game, boyos. Sure Carwyn but it helps if you’ve got big nuts and bigger props.
