Moses Itauma-that old Slovak-Nigerian hand speed is epic! (Although Anthony Joseph didn't seem to inherit that part of it).

Intriguing fight tomorrow, canelo v Crawford, logic says canelo should be too big , but Crawford has special gifts and you just can’t close the door on his chances , particularly with canelo starting to show the miles on the clock.

Parker fighting wardley on October 25th , parker is wbo mandatory , wardley wba , winner allegedly will be getting usyk .

Canelo. Too powerful. Those hooks can break down brick walls.

kiwiinmelb

Masterclass by Crawford, canelo has looked off for a while but still , can’t take away what Bud achieved when you consider coming up from 147 , one fight at 154 , then going to 168 to beat an undisputed champion.

Also RIP Ricky Hatton , randomly met him once in a bar in Thailand , just a very normal bloke enjoying a beer and a laugh, very happy to have a chat . So sad to hear it looks like suicide.

I had Crawford winning but not comfortable as that- he shut out Canelo who looks like he is on the slide and understandably so he while younger has had a hell of a long career turning pro at 15!
Very sad re Hatton a real working mans champion.

A lot of miles on the clock for canelo , 68 is a lot of fights in this era , and I reckon most of the last 20 or so he always looks very bruised and marked afterwards . I don’t think he was slipping shots like his younger years . But it’s also worth noting in those 68 fights , he never touched the canvas once , chin of granite .

Joseph Parker v Fabio Wardley this sun approx 10am should be interesting fight.
Parker favourite but has most to lose so pressure on him more than Wardley.
A mid rounds KO to JP seems most likely but Wardley can punch...

He's unbeaten but hasn't beaten anyone if that makes sense.

JP with more to lose, definitely going into this one as favourite.

Wardley is the new Wilder. Can be down plenty on the cards but packs a punch, as we saw against Huni last time out and his KO of Frazer Clarke was something else. Can't believe Clarke is still fighting after that.

Parker will have to stay disciplined for 12 and not trade with Wardley. Either a Parker UD or Wardley KO I feel.

His own (Wardley) defense is pretty open so a good chance also that Parker could stop him.
Usyk has come out and said he will fight the winner....
Hope this isn't a banana skin for Parker- I'm sure ...well as sure as I can be

Huge power. VERY heavy handed.

it could be a potential banana skin fight , but so was Wilder, Zhang and Bakole , and its because Joe did fight those guys and won he has a new found respect in the boxing world and people have been pushing his case

its a risk worth taking IMO , he simply needs to get back in the ring and keep the train rolling, , its been too long , and he allegedly gets usyk if he wins as well which is the ultimate prize fight he has been chasing

kiwiinmelb

For those who dont know ,

Joe puts out these videos on his own you tube channel that are quite well made that show his journey ,

My favourite NZ sportsman. Ardie Savea and Glenn Phillips have fallen away of late.

I know quite a number of people who’ve met him and they all say EXACTLY the same. Hell of a nice, humble fella. Great sense of humour. Confident without arrogant as this clip shows.

Hell of a fighter too ( none have been punched by him to be fair )

Has Parker put on some muscle? Looks like it to me but I may be out of date here..

He has yes
George Lockhart his S & C coach seems to be getting results

kiwiinmelb

Yeah he is much thicker now ,he is a good 10 kgs heavier than the earlier fighter that first won the title and fought Joshua, expecting to weigh in around the117 kg mark for this fight .

That is sizeable, even on a 1.93m frame.

I'm sure the trainers have it under control but hopefully that extra bulk doesn't make him gas quicker.

It’s been gradual rather than overnight since he hooked up with Lee and Lockhart.

Under Barry he tended to fight off the back foot a lot more , under Lee there is more of the kronk style , controlling centre ring and planting the front foot to unleash his shots .

So it’s all part of a plan to be more assertive.

It looks like useful muscle mass to me, this fight could be very interesting.
But I really don't want to see Parker face Usyk.

The size is one thing but the major plus with having Lockhart seems to be the science and structure to his conditioning.
Parker has alluded to when with Barry he over trained in camp due to himself coming into camp unfit and overweight then being thrashed to exhaustion before getting into the ring and discovering he had low energy.
Lockhart seems to have addressed this and Lee has Parker doing a lot of feints and switching levels which aren't as draining as continuously punching but distract and confuse the opponent enough then parker lands some nice combos to bank the rounds.
Sitting down on punches is the kronk style and I have noticed Parker throws as many lead rights as he does jab which again is making the opponent over think and tire and that is what I think he will do with Wardley...
I will be shocked if Parker loses this but hey shocks and upsets are part of boxing

Parker 119kg.

Maybe he could stay in the UK after the fight and play number 8 for the ABs wit those dimensions ?

Haven't heard much from Wardley before but he's another very likeable fella, can't one of these guys become a trash talking arsehole ?

Yeah no bad guy in this fight Wardley pretty intelligent and respectful dude.
The good thing for him he can easily rebuild after a loss to parker...on the other hand a parker loss to wardley is deverstating

kiwiinmelb

Suss stoppage was my initial reaction, but supporting joe there could be emotion in that ,

Need time to reevaluate

Yip Def time for revaluation
Will take 3 years to rebuild to title shot so with enough $ already made is it worth it Health wise

From online nonNZ comments you are not alone.
But what a shame. Joe in good condition with a good trainer.
I think it is now too late for him to come back. He has other options and not too injured, apparently. So pretty lucky considering the big men he has faced.

kiwiinmelb

It’s funny , I’m not saying I support the argument but American boxing fans claim non British fighters get waved off. Very quickly when fighting in Britain and British fighters get all the time in the world to recover . Dunno but it’s a theory they believe.

The reality is , neither fighter gets near usyk anyway ,

But regardless of this result in a styles makes fights sense, I think Wardley will be easier pickings for usyk to dismantle

Bad luck Joe , nature of heavyweight boxing , still a warrior, what a chin that man has got .

MN5

Four losses, all to British fighters.

Genuinely upset for him, not sure he can rebuild from here. Only a single loss but pretty devastating all things considered. Really fucks up any chances he might have had to take on Usyk.

You're right in regards to both having no chance against Usyk and yes, Wardley gets picked apart easier, but he also has more of a chance of landing something on Usyk than Parker or anyone else for that matter.

A real changing of the guard this result I feel. We're starting to see the new generation of HWs coming through now, with the last generation on their way out.

sparky

Absolute shocker for Parker. He was six rounds ahead but couldn't finish the job. That result will cost him millions.

Wardley beating Usak would be a massive upset.

Probably fair.

This loss is even more galling cos Wardley is so likeable. Might be easier if he was more of an arsehole.

Congrats to him. Huge. Will watch his career with great interest now.

I haven't seen the fight and to be honest probably won't watch a replay. Where did it go wrong ? did he underestimate Wardley ? Did he bulk up TOO much ? Has father time caught up and made those combos just a tad slower ?

Most of what you asked is true
Underestimated Wardley...after Huni I think he believed he would easily outbox him
Did he over bulk ... believe so -Wardley is cardio strong, throws a lot of punches rd1 to 12 and it was Parker that slowed. Being bulky meant he intended on getting the KO himself,
Father time...not really - Parker bulked believing he could impose his strength and power but like Huni Parker doesn't have the punch power to scare Wardley who is actually defensively better than he looks - he took the sting out of Parkers punches with his shoulder roll and leaning.
Tactics and body shape cost Parker in the end but he still could have taken it if he held or took a knee to give himself a break - easy to say from here.
Warren wanted this to happen - he has been a poor choice for a promoter for Parker all along, seeing Wardley as a UK cash cow for him.

Wardley, Dubois and Itauma to take over the new generation of British heavies. Difference between this bunch and the previous bunch is that these guys actually seem willing to jump in with anyone.

Hopefully the 2010's era of fighting unnecessary fringe journeymen instead of each other is a thing of the past.

kiwiinmelb

I’ve softened on the stoppage, initially I thought it was early if we compare to other examples like fury getting punched from pillar to post by Usyk with his eyes rolling around the back of his head . But this ref is well known to call them early so at least he is consistent, and I think with joe throwing nothing back wasn’t a great look , that’s boxing.

I think with joe , it’s probably harsh to start picking faults when all the evidence before this fight points towards massive improvements, and he was winning the fight and got caught with a good shot . Thats the tough uncertain nature of the sport and that uncertainty is a big part of what makes it so appealing end of the day .
