another piece of pie sir?
Sure, why not. I'm not enjoying it like the first one, but I'll gag it down like a <insert comparison here>

Not unexpectedly I can report it has been raining rather heavily in Napier for about the last half hour. Checks cricket schedule, ah yes Pakis v Black Caps scheduled for McLean Park on Saturday so that explains the rain.

An ODI will be more fun to watch than T20.
Not sure the results will be any different though

Disappointing to have to swap out watching Tim Seifert and Finn Allen for Nick Kelly and Will Young though. The T20 openers have been a real highlights package.

I had to google who that is.
Yeah the formats are getting more and more spread apart.
Some guys can play all three very well but fitting them all in can be the problem.
NZ will be batting first.
Of interest to me is two guys I've never heard of, Nick Kelly who I mentioned above and Muhammad Abbas.
Also Henry Nicholls has sneakily slotted in at three after some time in the wilderness.
I'm picking a couple of comfortable hidings ( despite what happened in Auckland ), I think this Pakistan team just want to go home.
Muhammad Abbas has had a little bit of 'next big thing' hype about him. He seems handy from the little bit of domestic T20 I've seen him play but probably a little too soon, although as you say, an ODI team against a pretty demoralised Pakistan team might be a good way to give him a little bit of international experience while the guys in front of him are off playing franchise cricket.
We are a bowler short. That 11 looks like it will be asking way too much of Abbas's bowling.
Bit, I'm not too bothered. Good to get him a game. Just surprised at the 11.

Yeah I thought that too. Maybe the plan is to give Chapman and Mitchell a few overs?
Looking better now. 146-3. Chapman and Mitchell battling hard and a few big hits in the last over.
NZ 224-3.
Chapman got his ton, Mitchell his 50.
These two have steadied the ship like a mother fucker.
Mohammad Ali is bowling but hasn't provided any punch as yet.
New boy Abbas in for Mitchell, gone for 76.
Will need to have a swing pretty shortly. I thought Bracewell might have come in ahead of him ?
Chapman has belted his way to 114 at the other end ! very big score looking good, especially given the start they had.
Chapman on 126, his highest ODI score. Well done son. Looking powerful and assured out there.
Previous two tons were against minnows UAE and Scotland so good to get a proper team in there.

Maybe Bracewell thought it was worth giving Abbas a bit more time to get into the game, good captaincy.

50 on debut off 24. Fantastic stuff young fella, he looks a talent.
He has some power and a good eye. Just as well as the rest of the lower order did SFA.

Was cool to see captain Bracewell send Abbas in ahead of him
Abbas is good to watch
yep, nice swagger about him. Looks very exciting and confident. His innings was vital in getting over 300 given others failed.
Bugger that he holed out on 52 and didn't end up 58 not out but he still looked pretty pleased with his efforts.
His Dad looked a pretty useful bowler at FC level in pakistan ( thanks cricinfo, looked unlucky not to get a call up for Pakistan )
That's a phenomenal total given our rocky start. I'm always nervous after a score like that that we squandered good conditions early, but we'll find out soon.
I should go look at Chapman's split Vs Pakistan and everyone else, it feels like all his runs come against them.

Average of 41 vs them vs 39 everyone else.
first big score against them, nothing over 50 prior to this.

Difference of 14 (27 vs 41) in T20 though, that must be where I got the idea.
Yeah, he absolutely loves playing T20 against and at their home grounds too!
At this stage of his career Abbas looks like a player who can give you a small number of overs bowling in limited overs formats rather than a genuine allrounder

So according to BC selectors a fully fledged all rounder then
Yeah I feel like we're in more trouble than it looks on the scorecard, since Abbas (or another part timer) has to bowl about a quarter of the remaining overs.
I don't know what the selectors are thinking - maybe he bowled more in the one day or plunket shield, but when I watched him play T20 his bowling was very much handy 6th option rather than core bowler.

Babar Azam has an extraordinary record in this form of the game. Getting him is key. Bowling options are looking a bit light.
All over, Pakistan all out for 271.
Better than I thought they'd get. Should encourage them to be competitive for the next couple of games.
Fuck i gotta stop checking the score on cricinfo, been in twice and each time we lost a wicket.
can someone else take a look please...
