I assume the super 8 etc is to maximise playoffs = TV rights.

Good to see diversity in team sports - that's one way to help sports grow in new countries, having migrant communities who start clubs etc. in sports they like.

I couldn't watch but I see that NZ is still struggling to take wickets in the power play, and in general.

Good knocks by Phillips and Ravindra, for different reasons.

Phillips, his classy innovative, destructive self with the left handed 6 for good measure.

Thanks Canada for getting Ravindra into some sort of form. This is weird to say about a guy with a strike rate over 150, but he kinda struggled for a lot of that innings but seemed to start middling a few the longer he batted.

@Gunner agree its the type of tournament you need confidence in depth

Look at us versus SA and Aus versus Sri Lanka, both good starts, but then couldn't maintain the momentum to be competitive on these pitches

Why isn’t Sodhi playing, is he injured too?

I must say, it is nice to see Zimbabwe doing well again after the tough years they've had.

Must feel like 1999 all over again for them.

So NZ v Pak first game of S8 in Colombo? Looks like we have to navigate Sri Lankan pitches for the whole of next round

NZ can afford to drop a game and still make the semis is that correct ?

Batting order is full of power and deep, no issues there, it's all the pies from the bowling that are of concern.

I'm guessing they saw his batting and fielding as a closer replacement for Santner and maybe see his bowling as lower risk (although that didn't really work out). The pitches in Sri Lanka might suit Sodhi so it would have been good to play him even if he might have gone for a few on that road.

....not to mention there would have been feelings that "it's only Canada" so there's room for rest/rotation ( which for a period looked like it might bite them during that opening partnership )

Yes. The Super 8 is two pools of 4. You then play the other teams in your pool. Whoever finishes top 2 of their respective pools makes the semis.

Zimbos loose important wicket but still need 10 runs from 7 balls to beat Lanka.

1 runs from 4 balls lol they could top that group

T20 clearly more chance at upsets in every game though

Had a quick look, one instance looked to be the ODI WC in 1992
They missed out on getting out of the group stage even before playing their last game against the Windies

All of our Super 8 games are at 2:30am which is pretty stink

I was at Lancaster Park watching NZ lose to Pakistan in our last pool game. We had to win for Australia to still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the play-offs, so once it became obvious we were going to lose, the crowd started chanting "Goodbye to Aussie", eventually followed by "Aussies are w__kers" as our creativity shone through...

Looking forward to game later, lucky that this week I’m in the right Timezone for it. Tariq will be an interesting proposition for us since we haven’t faced this mutant yet
